The 2013 International Wing Chun Day will be heldon Saturday, March 16th, 2013.

International Wing Chun Day is a day set aside each year tohelp bring awareness to the martial art of Wing Chun.

Founded in 2010 as a way to further the art of Wing Chun,International Wing Chun Day was chosen during spring anddetermined to be held on the 3rd Saturday in March. It wasfirst introduced on Facebook. In it's first year it was supported

by 1100 Wing Chun practitioners worldwide.

The mission of International Wing Chun Day is to raise thelevel of awareness of the art of Wing Chun as a whole whileeducating the public of its benefits and local instruction in theindividual communities surrounding Wing Chun schools.

Wing Chun is a concept-based art, rather than a technique-based art. This means that there are specific universal conceptsthat guide a practitioner's movements and techniques. So ifsomeone attacks you with a certain technique, you wouldn't

just respond with a specific technique to counter him. Youwould employ Wing Chun concepts to respond to his "energy",not his technique. The technique you end up using to respondis simply an attribute of the concept. One concept we look touse at every opportunity is referred to as "forward energy".

Forward energy refers to the Wing Chun practitioneintention effort and concentration made, and maintained, the direction of the opponent's center line. You should nevattempt to move their opponent's limbs away from this cent

Doing so would be considered "chasing hands", an attribuof poor Wing Chun execution. In addition, you should nevallow yourself to be moved away from the center line. If yallowed this you would be out of position to defend or attacInstead, you should always take both your energy and yoopponent's energy to the opponents center.
