Health Careers Pathways

Cerritos High is proud to offer a Health Pathways program for students interested in the medical fields. Incoming freshmen should register for Medical Biology and Medical Health classes. The curriculums for classes in the Pathways program have been altered to stress useful medical applications. Students enrolled in the program are obligated to be active members of the HOSA club. This requires a membership fee and monies for competitions and conferences.

How is High School different than Middle School???o In High School if you receive an “F” you HAVE to

repeat the class at another time. o Classes will move at a fast pace, so keep up!o If you have problems, don’t worry, there’s help!

o You will need to learn how to build a relationship to your teacher. Be honest, ask questions, stay after class/school.

o Tutoring! Don’t be afraid of tutoring. You can even get a fellow student to be your tutor for FREE! (CSF tutoring, Math and English Department Sponsored Tutoring).

Studies show that children who participate in one or more after-school activities are less prone to negative peer pressure and have higher levels of self-esteem than children who do not participate. Studies have also shown that extracurricular activities can boost a child's academic performance and provide students with a way to feel proud of themselves and their capabilities. They can help a child release pent-up frustration and energy, develop social skills, and discover talents, abilities, and interests. (Eccles, Jacquelynne S., et al. "Extracurricular Activities and Adolescent

Development." Journal of Social Issues 59 (Winter 2003): 865–89.)
