Please read these instructions carefully to prevent accidents andmachine damage.

This appliance complies with current safety requirements. Im-proper use of the appliance can cause personal injury and materialdamage. Read this safety information carefully before operatingthe appliance.They contain important information on the safe installation, opera-tion, and care of your coffee system. To avoid the risk of personalinjury or damage to the coffee system, it is important that youcarefully read the instructions. Miele cannot be held liable for dam-age caused by non-compliance with these IMPORTANT SAFETYINSTRUCTIONS.

Keep these instructions in a safe place and pass the on to any fu-ture user.

Intended use

Use this coffee system only in standard household environmentsfor making coffee beverages such as espresso, cappuccino, lattemacchiato, etc. Any other type of use is not permitted.

The coffee system is not suitable for outdoor use.

The machine is intended only for the preparation of coffee-baseddrinks such as espresso, cappuccino, latte macchiato etc. Any otherusage is not supported.

Persons which lack physical, sensory or mental abilities or experi-ence with the machine should not use it without supervision or in-struction by a responsible person.

Safety with children

Caution! Danger of burning and scalding on the dispensingdispensers.Children's skin is far more sensitive to high temperatures than thatof adults.

Ensure children do not touch hot surfaces of the coffee system orplace parts of their body under the dispensing dispensers.

Keep the coffee system out of reach of children.

Children must be kept away from the machine unless they areconstantly supervised.

Children should be supervised when they are near the coffee sys-tem. Do not allow them to play with it or to use the controls.

Children must not be allowed to clean the coffee system unsuper-vised.

Remember that coffee and espresso are not suitable drinks forchildren.

Danger of suffocation!Keep children away from any packing material.

Technical safety

Installation and repairs may only be carried out by a Miele-autho-rized service technician. Installation, repairs and other work by un-qualified persons can cause considerable danger to users.

A damaged coffee system could be dangerous. Before building inthe machine, check it for any externally visible damage. Do not use adamaged machine.

Before connecting the coffee system, check the voltage and fre-quency indicated on the data plate against the voltage and fre-quency of the household electrical supply.This data must correspond in order to prevent damage to the coffeesystem. If in doubt, consult a qualified electrician.

Be certain your appliance is properly installed and grounded by aqualified technician. To guarantee the electrical safety of this appli-ance, continuity must exist between the appliance and an effectivegrounding system. It is imperative that this basic safety requirementbe met. If there is any doubt, have the electrical system of the housechecked by a qualified electrician.

Reliable and safe operation of the coffee system can only be guar-anteed if it is connected to the electrical supply.

Do not connect the machine to the electrical supply using an ex-tension cord or power bar.

The coffee system may not be used in mobile installations such asships.

For safety reasons, this machine may only be used when it hasbeen built in.

If the coffee system is to be built in above another appliance,there must be a full-width, closed shelf between them.

Only use the coffee system in rooms where the ambient tempera-ture is between +50°F (10°C) and +100°F (38°C).

Do not cover or block the aeration and ventilation cross-sections.Condensation water can damage the coffee system or surroundingcabinets.

Ensure that there is sufficient ventilation around the coffee sys-tem.The ventilation gaps in the housing unit and the gap between the topof the housing unit and the ceiling must be at least 78 3/4" (200 cm2).Otherwise condensation can build up and damage the machine orthe housing unit.

If the coffee system is installed behind a cabinet door, it may onlybe used with the door open. This will prevent the formation of heatand humidity and subsequent damage to the appliance and/or hous-ing unit. Do not close the cabinet door while the coffee system is inuse. Ensure the coffee system has cooled down completely beforeclosing the door.

Repair work should only be performed by a Miele-authorized ser-vice technician. Repairs by unqualified persons can cause consider-able danger to users.

For repairs, the coffee system must be disconnected from theelectrical power supply.The coffee system is only disconnected from the power supply if

– the circuit breaker has been tripped, or

– the fuse is removed, or

– the power cord is disconnected from the power supply.Pull the plug, not the cord, to disconnect the appliance from thepower supply.

Repairs must only be performed by a trained technician in accor-dance with national and local safety regulations. Repairs and otherwork by unauthorized persons could be dangerous and may void thewarranty.

Defective components should be replaced by Miele original partsonly. Only with original Miele parts can the manufacturer guaranteethe safety of the appliance.

Never open the outer casing of the machine. Tampering with elec-trical connections or components and mechanical parts is highlydangerous to the user and can cause operational faults or electricshock.

Use only genuine original Miele parts. If parts or accessories fromother manufacturers are used, the warranty may become void.The use of accessory attachements not recommended by Miele mayresult in fire, electric shock or injury to persons.

Proper use

Danger of burning and scalding from the dispensers.The liquids and steam dispensed are very hot.

Please note:

– Keep away from the area underneath the dispensers when hot liq-uids and steam are being dispensed.

– Do not touch hot components.

– Hot liquid or steam could spatter from the dispensers. Ensure thatthe main dispenser is clean and fitted correctly.

– Water in the drip tray can also be very hot. Take care when emp-tying it.

Never look directly at the lighting or use optical instruments tolook at it.

Please note the following regarding water:

– Fill the water tank only with fresh, cold tap water. Hot or warmwater or other liquids could damage the coffee system.

– Change the water every day to prevent a build-up of bacteria.

– Do not use mineral water. Mineral water will cause lime scale de-posits to build up in your machine and damage it.

– Do not use water from a reverse osmosis unit in this machine.This would damage it.

Only fill the bean container with roasted espresso or coffee beans.Do not fill the bean container with coffee beans that have beentreated or with ground coffee.Do not fill liquids in the bean container.

Do not use green (unroasted) coffee beans or mixtures of coffeebeans which contain green coffee beans. Green coffee beans arevery hard and still contain a certain amount of residual moisture.These can damage the coffee system grinder as soon as grindingbegins.

Do not use coffee beans that have been treated with caramel,sugar or other substances. Sugar will damage the coffee system.

Only add ground coffee or cleaning tablets to the ground coffeechute.

Do not use any caramelized ground coffee. The sugar in the cof-fee will stick to and block the brew unit of the coffee system. Thecleaning tablets for degreasing the brew unit will not remove thistype of deposit.

Only use plain milk. Most sugary additives can clog the milk lines.and damage the machine.

If using dairy milk make sure that it has been pasteurized.

Do not place any alcohol mixtures which are alight underneath themain dispenser. The flames could ignite plastic components andcause them to melt.

Do not swing from or hang anything on the machine front when itis open as this could damage the hinges of the machine.

The main dispenser connector cap is lubricated with siliconegrease. Take care not to get this on your clothes when removing orreplacing the containers or other components.

Do not use the coffee system to clean objects.

Cleaning and care

The coffee system must be disconnected from the electrical sup-ply before cleaning or maintenance.

Clean the coffee system and the milk flask thoroughly before us-ing for the first time (see "Cleaning and care").

All parts of the milk system need to be cleaned thoroughly andregularly.

Do not use a steam cleaner to clean this machine. Steam couldreach electrical components and cause a short circuit.

Descale the coffee system regularly depending on the water hard-ness level in your area. Descale the machine more frequently in areaswith very hard water. Miele cannot be held liable for damage arisingfrom insufficient descaling, the use of incorrect descaling agent orthe use of descaling agent that is not of the appropriate concentra-tion.

Degrease the brew unit regularly with Miele cleaning tablets. De-pending on the natural oil content of the coffee used, the brew unitcan become blocked quite quickly.

Rinsing coffee grounds down the drain can cause the sink to clog.Instead, dispose of your coffee grounds appropriately as biodegrad-able waste (where facilities exist) or by composting.

For machines with stainless steel surfaces:

Do not use sticky notes, transparent adhesive tape, masking tapeor other types of adhesive on stainless steel surfaces. These dam-age the surface, causing it to lose its dirt repellent protective coating.

The finish on stainless steel surfaces is susceptible to scratching.Even magnets can cause scratching.

Preparing your appliance for an extended vacation

If you elect to turn off the water to your home for an extended pe-riod of time, please note that this may not be enough to reduce therisk of a leak. To be completely safe, you must turn off the watersupply to each individual appliance. This means under the sink for adishwasher, at the laundry bib for your washer, etc.

Before using for the first time

Before using the coffee system forthe first time, please read these in-structions and make yourself familiarwith the appliance and its controls.

Before using for the first time Install the coffee system and connect

it to the electrical supply (see "Electri-cal connection" and "Installation").

Remove any protective coveringsfrom the front of the machine.

Clean the appliance thoroughly be-fore filling it with water and coffeebeans (see "Cleaning and care").

Turning on for the first timeWhen the coffee system is switched onfor the first time, you will be asked toset the following settings:

– Language and country

– Date

– Time of day

– Display (time of day)

Tap the On / Off button .

Miele - Willkommen appears briefly in thedisplay.

Selecting a language

Use the arrow keys to highlightthe desired language. Then tap OK.

Use the arrow keys to highlightthe desired country. Then tap OK.

The setting is now saved.

Setting the time of day

Use the arrow keys until the timeof day appears. Then tap OK.


Setting the date

Use the arrow keys until the cur-rent date appears. Then tap OK to confirm the year, themonth, and the day.

Display

You can choose from the following op-tions:

– On: The time and date are always vis-ible in the display when the applianceis turned off.

– Off: The display is dark when the ap-pliance is turned off.

– Night dimming: The date and time ofday is displayed from 5:00 am to11:00 pm.

Use the arrow keys to highlightthe desired display type. Then tapOK.

Depending on the setting selected, thecoffee system may use more energy. Amessage will appear in the display toinform you of this.

The coffee system is now successfullyset up for use.

Fill the water reservoir with cold, freshtap water.

Water hardnessThe water hardness level indicates howmuch calcium is dissolved in the water.The higher the calcium content, theharder the water, and the harder thewater, the more often the coffee systemwill need to be descaled.

The coffee system measures theamount of water used and steam made.Depending on the level of water hard-ness set, more or fewer drinks can bedispensed before the appliance needsto be descaled.

Program the coffee system to the waterhardness level of your area so that itfunctions correctly and does not getdamaged. At the correct time a promptwill then appear in the display todescale the appliance.

You can program four hardness levelson the appliance:

Determining the water hardness

You can measure the water hardnessyourself using the enclosed test strip.Alternatively, your local water authoritywill be able to tell you the hardness ofwater in your area.

Dip the test strip in your drinking wa-ter for approximately one second,then shake off any excess water. Theresult will be evident after abouta minute.

Setting the water hardness level

Tap Settings.

Use the arrow keys to select Wa-ter hardness and tap OK.

Use the arrow keys to select therequired water hardness. Then tapOK.

To operate the coffee system, tap thetouch controls with your finger.

When the following appears in the dis-play, you are in the drinks menu:

Selecting a menu and navigat-ing within a menuTo select a menu, tap the relevant but-ton. You will then be able to start an ac-tion or change settings in the menu.

The setting which is currently selectedwill have a checkmark beside it.

To select a setting use the arrow keys until the setting you want is high-lighted.

To confirm the selection, tap OK.

Leaving the menu or cancelingan actionTo exit the current menu, tap Back.

Filling the water tank

Change the water every day toprevent a build-up of bacteria.

Only use cold, fresh tap water to fillthe water tank.Hot or warm water or other liquidscan damage the coffee system.

Do not use mineral water. Mineralwater will cause serious limescaledeposits to build up in your machineand damage it. Open the appliance door.

Pull the water tank forwards to re-move it.

Take off the lid and fill the water tankwith fresh, cold tap water up to the"max." mark.

Push the water tank back in the ma-chine until it clicks into place.

If the water tank protrudes slightly oris a little high, check whether the sur-face that the water tank sits on is dirty.If the water tank is not positioned cor-rectly, the outlet valve will not connectproperly and could leak. Clean thesurface, if necessary.

Filling the coffee bean container

Fill the coffee bean container withroasted coffee or espresso beans if youwant to use freshly ground coffee beansfor each cup of espresso or coffee.

Alternatively, you can make coffee orespresso with ground coffee (see "Mak-ing coffee drinks from ground coffee").

Important! Risk of damage to thegrinder.Only put roasted coffee or espressobeans in the container. Anythingelse, including ground coffee, willdamage the grinder.Do not pour liquids in the bean con-tainer.

Important! Sugar damages the coffeesystem.Do not use coffee beans that havebeen treated with sugar, caramel, orother substances containing sugar inthe coffee bean container.Do not use green (unroasted) coffeebeans or mixtures of coffee beanswhich contain green coffee beans.Green coffee beans are very hardand still contain a certain amount ofresidual moisture. These can dam-age the coffee system grinder assoon as grinding begins.

Tip: You can use a nut or seed grinderto grind green coffee beans. Thesetypes of grinder generally have a rotat-ing stainless steel blade. You can thenadd the ground green coffee portion byportion to the ground coffee chute andmake the desired coffee drink (see"Making coffee drinks from ground cof-fee").

Pull out the coffee bean container.

Push back the lid and fill the con-tainer with roasted coffee beans.

Slide the lid back into place.

Push the coffee bean container fullyback into the coffee system. Closethe front.

Turning the machine On and Off

Turning onWhen the coffee system is switched on,it heats up and rinses the pipework.This not only cleans the pipework, butalso warms it before coffee is prepared.

If the coffee system still has an operat-ing temperature higher than 140°F(60°C), rinsing will not take place.

Tap the On / Off button .

The appliance will begin rinsing afterthe heating-up phase. Hot water willcome out of the main dispenser.

You can now prepare drinks.

Tip: If you do not want the water fromthe rinsing process to flow into the driptray, place a suitable container (e.g., thesmall cleaning container) underneaththe main dispenser before preparing thefirst coffee of the day.

Turning off Tap the On / Off button .

After a coffee has been dispensed, themachine pipework is rinsed before themachine switches off.

Turning off for longer periodsof timeIf the coffee system is not going to beused for a longer period of time:

Empty the drip tray, the waste unitand the water tank.

Clean all components thoroughly, in-cluding the brew unit, the main dis-penser connector and the small driptray located inside the door.

Turn off the appliance.

If you leave the door open for an ex-tended period of time, unplug or dis-connect it from the power supply tosave energy.

Adjusting the coffee dispensers to the cup height

You can adjust the main dispenser tosuit the height of the cup you are usingso that the coffee or espresso will notcool down as quickly and the crema willhave a better consistency.

Pull the main dispenser down until itis at the same level as the rim of thecup.Alternatively, push the main dis-penser up until there is enough roomto fit a larger cup or mug underneath.

Danger of burning and scaldingfrom the dispensers.The liquids and steam dispensed arevery hot.Keep away from the area underneaththe dispensers when hot liquids andsteam are being dispensed.Do not touch hot components.

You can choose from a variety of spe-cialty coffees:

– Espresso is a strong, aromaticcoffee with a thick hazelnut-browncream layer – the crema – on top. Use espresso-roasted coffee beansfor preparing espresso.

– Coffee differs from espresso bythe increased amount of water andthe roast of the beans.Use coffee beans of the correct roastto make coffee.

– Lungo coffee is a coffee with sig-nificantly more water.

Making a coffee drink

Place a cup under the main dis-penser.

Tap the sensor button for the desireddrink: Espresso Coffee in Additional programs: Longo coffee

The drink you have selected will be dis-pensed from the main dispenser intoyour cup.

To ensure that any residues from thefactory testing process are removedfrom the brewing system, please dis-card the first two cups of coffeewhen using the machine for the firsttime.

Double portionYou can request two portions ofespresso or coffee at once in one cupor in two separate cups simultaneously.

To fill two cups at the same time:

Place one cup under each of the cof-fee dispensers.

Tap .

The button lights up.

Tap the sensor button for the desireddrink.

Two portions of the desired drink will bedispensed from the main dispenser.

Tip: If, after a while, you have nottapped one of the drink buttons, the"Double portion" option will revertback to single portions.

Canceling preparationDrink preparation can be canceled aslong as Stop is visible in the display.

Tap OK.

When making two portions at once,tapping the OK button once will stopthe first drink only. Keep the buttonpressed to stop the entire dispensingprocedure.

Coffee pot: Preparing severalcups of coffee one after theotherYou can automatically prepare severalcups of coffee one after the other(max.1 l) using the Coffee pot function.Up to eight cups can be prepared at theone time.

You can use the Coffee pot functiontwice in a row. After that, a longercooling down time of one hour is nec-essary so that the coffee system doesnot become damaged.

Place a sufficiently large containerunder the main dispenser.

Tap .

Use the arrow keys to highlightCoffee pot. Then tap OK.

Use the arrow keys to highlightthe desired number of cups (3 to 8).Then tap OK.

Follow the instructions given.

Each portion will be ground, brewedand dispensed individually. The displaywill inform you about the progress.

You can cancel the process at any time:

Tap OK or .

Making coffee drinks fromground coffeeTo make espresso or coffee usingground coffee, add a portion of groundcoffee to the ground coffee chute.This gives you the option of preparing acup of decaffeinated coffee, for exam-ple, even though the coffee bean con-tainer is filled with roasted coffeebeans.

The coffee system will automaticallyrecognize that ground coffee has beenplaced in the chute.

Only one portion of coffee or espressocan be prepared at a time when usingground coffee.

Adding ground coffee

Do not add more than one levelscoop of ground coffee to the coffeechute. If too much is added, thebrew unit will not be able to processthe coffee.

The coffee system will use all theground coffee that has been added tothe chute to make the next coffee.

Use the scoop supplied with the ma-chine to ensure the correct amount ofground coffee is used.

Add one level scoop of ground coffeeto the chute.

Drinks with milk

Danger of burning and scaldingfrom hot steam coming out of themain dispenser!The liquids and steam dispensed arevery hot.

Only use plain milk. Most sugary ad-ditives can clog the milk lines. anddamage the machine.If using dairy milk make sure that ithas been pasteurized.

The following drinks with milk can bemade:

– Cappuccino consists of approx.2/3 milk froth and 1/3 espresso.

– Latte macchiato consists of 1/3each of hot milk, milk froth andespresso.

– Caffè latte consists of hot milkand espresso.

Hot milk and milk froth can also bemade.

Notes on the milk flask

Milk is not cooled in the milk flask.Therefore, place the milk flask in therefrigerator if you are not going to usemilk for a while. Good milk froth canonly be achieved when cold milk (be-low 50°F / 10°C) is used.

Grinder settingWhen the beans are ground correctly,the coffee or espresso will flow evenlyinto the cup with a good crema.The crema should have an even nut-brown colour.

The grinder setting you select will beused for all coffee drinks.

There are various ways to tell whetherthe coffee grinder is set correctly.

The coffee is ground too coarse, if

– espresso or coffee flows into the cuptoo quickly.

– the crema is very pale and uneven.

Set a finer grinder setting.

The coffee is ground too fine, if

– espresso or coffee flows into the cupvery slowly.

– the crema is dark brown.

Set a coarser grinder setting.

To avoid damaging the grinder,please note the following:Only adjust the grinder one setting ata time.Grind the coffee beans again if youwant to adjust the grinder to the nextsetting.


Push the slide control one setting tothe left (for finer grinding) or one set-ting to the right (for coarser grinding).

Close the machine door.

Prepare a coffee drink.

After that, you can adjust the grindersetting again.

The altered grinder setting not consid-erably noticeable until after the secondcoffee has been dispensed.

Amount of coffee

The coffee system can grind and brew6-14 g of coffee beans per cup. Thegreater the quantity, the stronger thecoffee.

There are various ways to tell whetherthe amount of coffee is set correctly.

The amount of coffee is too low, if

– espresso or coffee flows into the cuptoo quickly.

– the crema is very pale and uneven.

– the espresso or coffee lacks body.

Increase the amount of coffee so thatmore ground coffee is brewed.

– the espresso or coffee tastes bitter.

Decrease the amount of coffee so thatless ground coffee is brewed.

Select Amount of coffee and tap OK.

Tip: If the coffee is too strong for you orit tastes bitter, try a different type ofbean.

Brewing temperature

The ideal brewing temperature will de-pend on:

– the type of coffee,

– whether an espresso or a coffee isbeing prepared, and

– the altitude of the region.

If the coffee system is located at morethan 6562 ft. (2000 meters) above sealevel, the brewing temperature needs tobe set lower due to the change in pres-sure. This is because the boiling pointfor water at a high altitude above sealevel is lower than the boiling point forwater at sea level.

Tip: Not all types of coffee can with-stand high temperatures. Certain typesare too delicate - the crema on topwould not be as good and the tastewould be impaired.

The coffee system has five brewingtemperatures.

Select Brew temperature and tap OK.

Select the required temperature andtap OK.


Pre-brewing ground coffee

When the pre-brewing function isturned on, the freshly ground coffee isfirst moistened with a little hot water.Then the remaining water is forcedthrough the moistened coffee at highpressure. This helps release the flavorof the coffee.

You can set pre-brewing for a normallength of time or an extra long length oftime. Alternatively, you can turn off the"Pre-brewing" function. The machine is supplied with the "Pre-brewing" function turned off.

The check indicates which pre-brew-ing option is currently selected.

Portion size

The flavor of the coffee produced de-pends not just on the type of coffeeused, but also on the amount of waterused. You can program the amount ofwater to suit the size of your cups andthe type of coffee you are using.

For coffee drinks that use milk you canalso set the amount of milk or milk frothto be dispensed with these drinks. Ad-ditionally, you can set the portion sizesfor hot milk and milk froth alone.

Each type of drink has a maximum por-tion size that can be programmed intothe machine. The coffee system haltspreparation of the coffee once this por-tion size has been reached. The maxi-mum possible portion size for this typeof drink is then saved in the machine.

The changed portion size is alwayssaved in the current User profile. Thename of the current profile appears inthe top left-hand side of the display.

There are two ways of initiating the pro-gramming of the portion size:

– By tapping the drink button when youare preparing a coffee; or

– by selecting Portion size in the Param-eters menu.

Tip: You can cancel portion size pro-gramming as long as Stop is visible inthe display.

If the water tank becomes empty whilemaking a drink, the machine will stopprogramming the portion size. Theportion size will not be saved.

Changing the portion size dur-ing drink preparationYou can adapt the portion size forespresso , coffee , cappuccino ,and latte macchiato directly duringpreparation and save it.


Tap the sensor button for the desireddrink until Change appears in the dis-play.

The desired drink is prepared and Saveappears in the display.

When the cup is filled to the desiredlevel, tap OK.

If you want to change the the drinkamount for coffee specialties with milk,the ingredients are the drink are savedone after the other during preparation.

When the quantity for each ingredientreaches the desired level, tap OK.

The programmed mix of ingredients andportion sizes will now be dispensed ev-ery time that particular drink is selected.

You can adapt the portion sizes forlungo coffee, caffè latte, hot milk,and milk froth using using the "Pa-rameters" menu.

If the coffee system is used by severalpeople with different coffee prefer-ences, you can create individual userprofiles in addition to the Miele profile.

You can now create a user profile.

If you have allocated a profile in addi-tion to the Miele standard user profile,you have the following options:

– Select profile from the User profilesthat have already been allocated.

– Change name if the name of a Userprofile needs to be changed.

– Delete profile if you want to delete aUser profile.

– Change profile to set whether thecoffee system automatically alwaysreverts to the Miele standard userprofile or retains the last selecteduser profile.

Tip: Tap Back or Profile to return to themain menu.

Creating a user profile

Use the arrow keys to select Cre-ate profile and tap OK.

Letters will appear in the display thatyou can select with the arrow keys. Youcan use the arrow keys to select fromnumbers, upper case and lower caseletters.

Tap arrow keys to select thecharacter and then tap OK.

The character will then appear in theline above.

Repeat the process until the desiredname appears in the display lineabove.

Tip: You can delete the last characterentered by tapping Back.

When you have finished entering aname and want to save it,

use the arrow keys to highlightthe check and tap OK.

If you do not want to save what youhave entered,

tap and hold Back until all charactershave been deleted and the coffeesystem jumps back to the previousmenu.

The last created profile is selected asthe current profile.

The coffee system will indicate that theenergy consumption has been altered.

Locking the coffee system(System lock )You can lock the coffee system to pre-vent it being used without your knowl-edge, by children, for example.

Activating and deactivating the sys-tem lock

Temporarily overriding the systemlock

While the message Press and hold the OKbutton for 6 seconds to unlock is in thedisplay,

Drip tray

Burn hazard!If the rinsing process has just fin-ished, wait a few minutes before re-moving the drip tray as the waterused for rinsing will run out of thecoffee dispensers.

Clean the drip tray every day to pre-vent unpleasant odors and mildew.

A prompt will appear in the displaywhen the drip tray is full and needs tobe emptied. Remove the tray andempty it at the latest when this promptappears.

Open the machine front and carefullyremove the drip tray from the ma-chine.

The grid in the drip tray prevents thewater from spilling out of the traywhen it is being carried.

Clean the drip tray and the grid withhot water and liquid dish soap or inthe dishwasher and dry with a cloth.

Clean the contacts (metal plates) andthe space between them carefullyand dry them thoroughly.

Only clean and dry contacts cansense whether the drip tray is full.Check this area once a week.

Clean the space under the drip tray.

Push the drip tray back into the cof-fee system.

Make sure the drip tray has beenpushed into its niche as far as it willgo.

The drip tray cover can be cleaned inthe dishwasher or by hand usingwarm water and liquid dish soap.

Dry the drip tray cover thoroughly.

Refit the cover on the drip tray mak-ing sure it sits flush at the front.

Water tankChange the water every day to preventa build-up of bacteria.

Make sure that the valve, the under-side of the water tank and the sur-face the water tank sits on are clean.Otherwise the water tank will not sitcorrectly.

The water tank can be cleaned in thedishwasher or by hand using warmwater and liquid dish soap. Aftercleaning, dry the water tank.

Clean the surface the water tank sitson, particularly the slots, carefully.

Waste unitAfter a certain period of time a reminderto empty the waste unit will appear inthe display. The waste unit must becleaned when this message appears.However, it is better to clean the wasteunit every day to prevent a build-up ofbacteria.. There will probably also bewater in the waste unit left over from therinsing process. Clean the waste unitdaily.

The waste unit usually also containsresidual water from the rinsing proce-dure.

The waste unit can be cleaned in thedishwasher or by hand using warmwater and liquid dish soap. Aftercleaning, dry the waste unit.

Also thoroughly clean the now acces-sible area in the machine where thewaste unit sits.

Milk flask with lid

Soiling can lead to machine malfunc-tions.It is important to keep the neck andflange of the milk flask clean (whilefilling it and carrying it).

Clean the milk flask holder on thecoffee system with a damp cloth.

The milk flask (glass) can be cleanedin the dishwasher or by hand usingwarm water and liquid dish soap. Drythe milk flask with a soft cloth aftercleaning.

Before you lay the milk flask lid in thedishwasher:

Rinse the milk pipework in the lid un-der running water.

If, when doing this, no water runs out ofthe milk pipework ,

take apart the milk flask lid and cleanit with the cleaning brush provided.

Milk fat can deposit in the milk flask lid.When this happens, milk will spraywhen milk froth is made.

Pull the milk intake tube from themilk flask lid. Make sure that you re-move the seal , as well.

Clean both under running water.Insert the cleaning brush suppliedinto the stainless steel tube and moveit back and forth until all milk depositshave been removed.

Also use the cleaning brush to cleanthe milk pipework in the lid from thetop and bottom.

To reassemble the lid:

First insert the seal into the lid.

Make sure that you do not insert theslanted end of the stainless steeltube into the seal. This will damagethe seal.

Bean container Pull the bean container out of the ap-

pliance and pull the lid toward theback and off.

Clean the bean container and its lidby hand using warm water and liquiddish soap. Dry both components.

Slide the lid back on, then slide thebean container back into the appli-ance.

Interior and machine front First take out all removable parts and

then clean the interior and the ma-chine front with a mild solution of hotwater and liquid dish soap.

Tip: Use your vacuum cleaner to re-move dry coffee grounds.

A small drip catcher is located insidethe front of the machine at the bottom.

Remove the drip catcher and clean itin the dishwasher or by hand usingwarm water and liquid dish soap.

After cleaning, remember to placethe drip tray in the coffee systemagain.

Main dispenser connectorThe part which connects the brew unitand the main dispenser is located onthe inside of the machine front.

Clean this connection regularly with adamp cloth, taking care not to wipethe grease off the cap.

Brew unit

Remove the brew unit and wash byhand

Clean the brew unit by hand only us-ing warm water. Do not use liquiddish soap.The moving parts of thebrew unit are lubricated. Liquid dishsoap will damage the brew unit.

You can remove the brew unit for clean-ing.Clean it once a week.


Remove the water tank, waste unitand the coffee chute cover.

Press the button on the end of thehandle of the brew unit and whiledoing so turn the handle counter-clockwise .

Press the catch in front of the brewunit downwards, and pull the brewunit out carefully.

Carefully pull the brew unit out of thecoffee system.

If you cannot remove the brew unit orcan only do so with difficulty, the brewunit is not in the correct position (See"Frequently asked questions").

When the brew unit has been pulledout, do not alter the position of thebrew unit handle.This would displacethe brew unit and it would not fitback into the coffee system.

Clean the brew unit by hand underhot running water without using de-tergent or liquid dish soap.

Wipe any remaining coffee off the twofilters. One filter is located in the fun-nel and the other to the left of thefunnel.

Dry the funnel to prevent ground cof-fee sticking to it the next time a cof-fee is prepared.

Clean the inside of the coffee system.Use your vacuum cleaner to removedry coffee grounds.

To put the brew unit into place again:

Proceed in reverse order: push thebrew unit into the coffee system,making sure it is straight.

Cleaning the milk pipeworkThe milk pipework must be cleaned ap-proximately once a week. The coffee system will remind you to dothis. Three days before the milkpipework must be cleaned, Days until"Clean milk pipework": appears in the dis-play. The coffee system shows thenumber of days remaining until the milkpipework must be cleaned.

Confirm the message with OK.

When the number of days remainingreaches 0, Clean milk pipework will appearin the display. You cannot make drinkswith milk until cleaning has been carriedout.

You can now only dispense espresso,coffee, lungo coffee and hot water. Youwill only be able to make drinks withmilk once the milk pipework has beencleaned.


Perform "Clean milk pipework"

The cleaning process cannot be can-celled once it has started. Theprocess has to be completedthrough to the end.

The maintenance program Clean milkpipework lasts about 13 minutes.

Making a cleaning solution

We recommend using the Miele milkpipework cleaning agent for cleaningthe milk pipework.This has been specially developed foruse with Miele coffee systems and pre-vents subsequent damage.

It is available from Miele dealers, Mieleor the Miele website.

Add one package of the milkpipework cleaning agent to the watertank.

Fill the water tank to the mark withlukewarm water and stir the solution.

Please adhere to the mixing ratio. Itis important that you do not fill thewater tank with too little water, other-wise cleaning will be incomplete.

Replace the water tank in the coffeesystem and close the front.


If prompted to do so on the display:

Remove the water tank and rinse itcarefully with clean water. Make surethat no cleaning agent is left in thewater tank. Fill the water tank withfresh tap water and replace it in themachine.

The cleaning process is finished whenProgram finished appears in the display.

Degreasing the brew unitDepending on the natural oil content ofthe coffee used, the brew unit can be-come blocked quite quickly. It must bedegreased regularly in order to ensurearomatic coffee and trouble-free opera-tion of the coffee system.

We recommend using Miele cleaningtablets to clean the brew unit. Thesehave been specially developed for usewith Miele coffee systems and preventsubsequent damage.Miele cleaning tablets can be orderedfrom a Miele dealer or from the Mielewebsite.

The "Degrease brew unit" maintenanceprogram lasts about 11 minutes.

After 200 portions have been dis-pensed, Degrease the brew unit will ap-pear in the display.

Tap OK.

This message will be displayed untilthe cleaning program has been carriedout.

Performing "Degrease brew unit"

Turn the coffee system off with theOn / Off button.

Select Degrease the brew unit and tapOK.

Important! When descaling the appli-ance, cover delicate surfaces andnatural flooring to prevent damagefrom splashes of descaling solution.Ensure that any splashes of descal-ing solution are wiped up immedi-ately.

Lime scale builds up in the coffee sys-tem through use. How often the appli-ance needs to be descaled will dependon the water hardness level in yourarea. It should be descaled regularly toensure that it functions correctly.

The appliance will guide you throughthe descaling process. Various mes-sages will appear in the display, e.g.you will be prompted to empty the driptray or fill the water reservoir.

The descaling process is required andtakes approx. 20 minutes.

The coffee system prompts you when itneeds to be descaled. "No. of portionsuntil appliance needs descaling: No. ofuses until appliance needs descaling: 50appears in the display. Each time adrink is prepared, the coffee systemdisplays the number of portions remain-ing until descaling must be carried out.


When the number of remaining portionsreaches 0, the appliance will lock out.

You can turn off the coffee system ifyou do not want to descale it at thistime. However, you will be not be ableto make any more drinks until descalinghas been carried out.

Fill the water tank to the mark withlukewarm water.

Drop two descaling tablets in the wa-ter.

Follow the instructions for the mixingratio carefully. It is important that youdo not fill the water tank with toomuch or too little water. Otherwisethe descaling process will be can-celled prematurely.

Performing a descale

Replace the water tank in the coffeesystem and close the front.

Follow the instructions given in thedisplay.

When Rinse the water container and fill withfresh tap water up to the descaling symbol appears in the display:

Carefully rinse the water tank withclean water. Ensure that no descalingsolution residue remains in the watertank. Fill the water tank to the mark with fresh tap water.

The cleaning process is complete whenrinsing has finished.

After descaling the machine carefully,rinse the water tank and the drip tray toremove all traces of descaling agent.

To protect the machine and sur-rounding surfaces from damage,make sure you wipe up any spillagesor splashes of descaling agent im-mediately.

The brew unit cannot be positioned correctly, or it isdirty and the coffee cannot be processed. Check whether you can remove the brew unit (see

"Cleaning and care - Brew unit"). If you can remove the brew unit, clean it (see

"Cleaning and care – Brew unit").

Push the coffee ejector of the brew unit into thecorrect position (see image).

Push the waste unit and the water tank back in themachine. Do not insert the brew unit. Close thedoor and switch the machine on with the On / Off button.

This will initialize the brew unit motor and put in backinto the start position. When Insert the brew unit appears in the display,

open the door and put all the parts back in themachine. Then close the door.

If the brew unit cannot be removed: Turn the machine off with the On / Off button.

Wait for 2 minutes before turning it back on again.

Too much ground coffee There is too much ground coffee in the coffee chute.If more than one level scoop of ground coffee isadded to the coffee chute, the brew unit cannotprocess the coffee. The ground coffee will be directedinto the waste unit and the fault message will appearin the display. Turn the machine off with the On / Off button. Remove and clean the brew unit (see "Cleaning

and care – Brew unit"). Remove the ground coffee inside the coffee sys-

tem, e.g. with a vacuum cleaner. Use the coffee scoop supplied to add ground cof-

fee to the ground coffee chute. Add only one por-tion of ground coffee to the chute.

Push the water container inuntil it engages

The water tank is not sitting properly in the appliance. Remove the water tank and replace it.

This fault message also appears if the water tank wasnot correctly filled and fitted for descaling. Fill the water tank to the descaling marking and

restart the descaling program.

Unusual performance of the coffee system

Problem Possible cause and solution

The display remainsdark when the coffeesystem is turned on us-ing the On / Off but-ton.

The On / Off button was not touched for longenough. Tap the On / Off button and keep it pressed for

at least 3 seconds.The plug is not properly plugged into the electricaloutlet. Insert the plug into the electrical outlet.

The fuse has tripped because the coffee system, volt-age or another appliance is defective. Reinsert the plug.. Contact a qualified electrician or Miele Service for

assistance.

The lighting remains offafter the coffee systemhas been turned on.

The lighting has been turned off. Turn the lighting on (see "Settings - Lighting").

The lamp is defective. Contact Miele Service.

The coffee system turnsoff suddenly.

The switch-off time programmed using the timer hasbeen reached. If required, you can select a new switch-off time

(see "Settings - Timer").The plug is not properly plugged into the electricaloutlet. Insert the plug into the electrical outlet.

The coffee system isturned on. The lightingturns off suddenly.

This is not a fault. The lighting turns off approximately10 minutes after the coffee system was last used.

The sensors do not re-act to touch.The appliance cannotbe operated.

There is an internal fault. Open the appliance door.

The process currently running will be stopped. Disconnect the electrical supply by switching off at

the wall outlet and unplugging, or tripping thebreaker.

The coffee system doesnot switch itself on, al-though the timer settingTurn on at has been acti-vated.

The system lock feature has been activated. You need to deactivate the system lock (see "Set-

tings - System lock").A day of the week has not been selected. Check the timer settings and change them if re-

quired (see "Settings - Timer").The machine was not used after being switched onautomatically three times in succession. Switch the machine on and dispense a drink.

The display is hard tosee or not legible.

The display brightness has been set too low. Change this setting (see "Settings").

Push the water container inuntil it engages appearsafter activation eventhough the container isfilled and fitted in themachine. The appliance does notrinse.

The coffee system needs to be descaled. Turn the coffee system off with the On / Off but-

ton. Wait approx. 1 hour. Then switch the machine on again. As soon as

The cap of the main dispenser connector is not suffi-ciently greased. The silicone cap gets jammed in thebrew unit.

Check the silicone cap for damage. Repalce thecap with the provided spare part if necessary.

Lubricate the cap with the included siliconegrease.

Grease the cap of the main dispenser connector reg-ularly, at least once a month.

The coffee system doesnot rinse itself whenturned on.

This is not a fault.If the coffee system still has an operating tempera-ture higher than 140°F (60°C), rinsing will not takeplace.

During rinsing, no orconsiderably less rins-ing water than usualcomes out of the maindispenser.No or considerably lesscoffee than usualcomes out of the maindispenser. The displaysand preparation noisesare unchanged.The waste unit containsconsiderably more "cof-fee water."

The main dispenser is not correctly mounted. Make sure the main dispenser has been assem-

bled as described (see "Cleaning and care – Maindispenser").

The cap is no longer sitting firmly on the main dis-penser connector (see "Guide to the appliance"). Check the cap of the main dispenser connector.

Grease the cap with the included silicone grease.The cap of the main dispenser connector is damagedor missing. Replace the cap with the provided spare part. Lubricate the cap with the included silicone

grease.

The descaling programwas started uninten-tionally.

The descaling program cannot be stopped once theOK button has been tapped.Descaling must be continued through to completion.This is a safety precaution to make sure the machineis descaled correctly. This is important for thelongevity and functional efficiency of your coffee sys-tem.

Descale the coffee system (see "Descaling").

Loud noises are heardduring the descalingprogram.

This is not a fault.These noises occur when water is flushed throughthe machine at a high pressure.

The display lights upbut the coffee systemdoes not heat up and nodrinks are made.

The Demo mode of the coffee system has been acti-vated. Deactivate the Demo mode (see "Settings - Demo

mode").

Unsatisfactory results


The coffee is not hotenough.

The cup has not been pre-heated.The smaller the cup and the thicker its walls, the moreimportant it is to pre-heat it.

Pre-heat the cup, for example, with hot water.

The brewing temperature is set too low. Set a higher brewing temperature (see "Brewing

temperature").The brew unit filters are blocked. Remove and clean the brew unit (see "Cleaning

and care – Brew unit"). Degrease the brew unit (see "Cleaning and care -

Brew unit").

The heating-up time isgetting longer, theamount of water beingdispensed is incorrectand the coffee systemis not performing prop-erly.

The coffee system needs to be descaled. Descale the coffee system.

Coffee does not flowevenly from both dis-pensers. Milk spraysoccasionally duringpreparation.

Coffee deposits in the main dispenser prevent thedispensing of the drinks. Disassemble the main dispenser and clean the

parts – with the exception of the stainless steelcover – in the dishwasher (see "Cleaning and care– Main dispenser").This cleaning should be performed once a week.

The coffee grindermakes a louder noisethan usual.

The coffee bean container has become empty duringthe grinding process. Fill the coffee bean container with fresh beans.

There may be stones in among the coffee beans. Turn the coffee system off immediately. Contact

Miele.

The coffee flows tooquickly into the cup.

The grind level is too coarse. Set the grinder to a finer setting (see "Setting the

coffee grinder").

The coffee trickles tooslowly into the cup.

The grind level is too fine. Set the grinder to a coarser setting (see "Grinder

The crema on the cof-fee or espresso is "notright".

The grinder setting is not correct. Set the grinder to a finer or coarser setting (see

"Grinder setting").The brew temperature is too high for the type of cof-fee being used. Set a lower brewing temperature (see "Brewing

temperature").The coffee beans are no longer fresh. Add fresh beans to the coffee bean container.

Problems when preparing milk


The milk sprays duringdispensing and hissingnoises can be heard.Even though milk frothshould be prepared,only hot milk emergesfrom the main dis-penser.

The milk temperature is too high. Good milk froth canonly be achieved when cold milk (below 50°F/10°C) isused. Check the temperature in the milk flask.

The milk flask has not be inserted properly so that notonly milk, but also air is suctioned in. Push in the milk flask to the limit stop.

The main dispenser is not correctly mounted. Check whether the main dispenser is correctly as-

sembled.The milk pipework in the milk flask lid is dirty. Taking apart the milk flask lid and cleaning it with

the cleaning brush (See "Cleaning and care – Milkflask").

Clean the main dispenser and the milk valve withthe cleaning brush (see "Main dispenser" and"Maintaining the milk valve").

The elbow connector is blocked and must be ex-changed. Exchange the elbow connector (see "Exchanging

the elbow connector").

Fill and insert milk containerappears in the displayeven though the milkflask has been filled andinserted in the machine.

The milk flask lid could be dirty. Therefore, the sens-ing mechanism does not function correctly. Clean the cover and the milk flask thoroughly. Dis-

assemble the cover and clean it with the includedcleaning brush (see "Cleaning and care – Milk flaskwith cover").

Exchanging the elbow connec-torIf you can prepare only hot milk insteadof milk froth, check the following first:

– Is the milk in the milk flask cold(< 50°F / 10°C)?

– Have the main dispenser and milkflask lid been cleaned carefully?

– Is the main dispenser correctlymounted?

If you still cannot prepare milk froth, fol-low the steps described to exchangethe elbow connector.

You need the elbow connector that wasprovided as a spare part.

Do not use a needle or similar imple-ment. This would damage the com-ponents.

Open the service cover on the backof the appliance door.

First release air intake tube fromthe opening Then pull off the el-bow connector .

Pull both tubes out of the elbow con-nector.

Use the cleaning brush supplied toclean air intake tube under runningwater. "Blowing through" can help todislodge blockages.

Insert the brush in milk tube . Movethe brush back and forth as far aspossible until all milk deposits havebeen removed.

Now take the new elbow connector(you can throw away the old elbowconnector in the household trash).

Push the tubes back into the elbowconnector and replace this in the ma-chine. Make sure that the land on theelbow connector is pointing down-wards.

Re-insert the air intake tube into theopening .

Disposal of packaging materialThe cardboard box and packing materi-als protect the appliance during ship-ping. They have been designed to bebiodegradable and recyclable.

Ensure that any plastic wrappings,bags, etc. are disposed of safely andkept out of the reach of children. Returnthe packaging to your dealer.

Disposal of your old applianceOld electrical and electronic appliancesoften still contain valuable materials.However, they also contain harmfulsubstances that were essential for theproper functioning and safe use of theequipment. Handling these materialsimproperly or disposing of them in yourhousehold waste can be harmful to yourhealth and the environment. Therefore,please do not dispose of your old appli-ance with regular household waste.

Old appliances may contain materialsthat can be recycled. Please contactyour local recycling authority about thepossibility of recycling these materials.

Ensure the appliance presents no dan-ger to children while being stored fordisposal.

Make sure that the power to the ma-chine is OFF before installing or per-forming maintenance or repairs. Allelectrical work should be performed bya qualified electrician in strict accor-dance with national and local safetyregulations. Installation, repairs andother work by unqualified personscould be dangerous.

Verify that the voltage, load and circuitrating information found on the dataplate match the household electricalsupply. This data must match to pre-vent damage to the coffee system. If indoubt, consult a licensed electrician.

The necessary connection informationis given on the data plate inside yourappliance.

The coffee system comes equippedwith a 6 ft (1.8 m) power cord with aNEMA 5-15P molded plug for connec-tion to a 120 V, 15 A, 60 Hz power sup-ply.

Do not connect the appliance to apower inverter or directly to power pro-duced outside of the normal electricalgrid (i.e. direct solar or wind powersource).

Direct connection to such powersources can cause power surges andtripped breakers when the appliance isturned on, and could damage the appli-ance.

Do not connect the appliance to energysaving plugs or outlets. The reductionof power to the appliance caused bythese devices will cause the applianceto run hot and may damage it and/orshorten its usable life.

Ventilation

Condensation water can damage thecoffee system or surrounding cabi-nets.The specified ventilation cross-sec-tions absolutely must be observed.Do not cover or block the ventilationcross-sections.Clean the ventilation cross-sectionson a regular basis.

Due to the heating of water, watersteam can condense inside the coffeesystem and inside the door.

During installation, ensure there is suffi-cient ventilation at the rear of the appli-ance so that steam and warm air areable to escape without hindrance.

The surrounding cabinets should be de-signed as follows:

– Air intake occurs via the plinth atthe bottom of the appliance and theair escapes at the top at the rearof the surrounding cabinets.

– A ventilation gap of at least 15/8" (40 mm) depth must be providedbehind the appliance for air to circu-late.

– The ventilation cross-sections in theplinth, surrounding cabinets andabove the appliance must amount toat least 78 3/4 square inches(200 cm2) to ensure that air can circu-late without obstruction.

Top ventilation cross-section

The ventilation cross section at the topof the appliance can be constructed indifferent ways:

a directly above the coffee systemwith a ventilation grille (free airflow ofat least 78 3/4 square inches /200 cm2)

b between the surrounding cabinetsand the ceiling

c through a suspended ceiling

Installing the coffee system

Make sure that there is no power tothe machine during installation. Thisalso applies when uninstalling.The machine may only be operatedwhen installed and in an ambienttemperature range between +50°F(10°C) to +100°F (38°C).For installation, you will require twosocket wrenches in sizes 3 and 5.

To ensure the appliance door is flushwith the cabinetry front, a seal aroundthe building-in niche is needed or asealing strip must be adhered to thecoffee system.

If there is not a seal at the front of thebuilding-in niche, adhere the Mielesealing strips from the back (see pic-ture) before installing the coffee sys-tem.The sealing strips can be pur-chased from Miele.

Sealing strips are available from yourMiele dealer or from Miele.

Tip: We recommend providing a placeto sit the coffee system which is thesame height as the building-in niche.This will make it easier to connect themachine to the electrical supply.

Using the large allen key, unscrew allfour feet out by about 3/4" (2 mm).

.The feet can be unscrewed by up toapprox. 4" (10 mm).

Connect the appliance to the electri-cal supply.

Ensure the power cord does not getdamaged when pushing the appli-ance into the niche.

Push the coffee system all the wayinto the building-in niche.

Make sure the coffee system is cen-tered and straight in the building-inniche. If this is not the case, align themachine using the four bases.

The appliance comes with four M5socket screws to help you align and se-cure it in the building-in niche.

Open the appliance door, and par-tially tighten the side socket screws.

Carefully turn the lower socketscrews to center the machine in theniche.

Tighten both upper socket screws byhand to secure the machine in theunit. Do not over-tighten them.

Adjusting the door hingesIf the machine door becomes difficult toopen or close after installation, you canadjust the hinges to realign it (TX 20):

Tighten the screw to align it flushwith the cabinet front.

Tighten the screw to align the doorhorizontally and vertically.
