our purpoSe

Every woman who thinks she is the only victim of violence has to know that there are many morendash Salma Hayek

It is only through education and discussion can we begin to create a movement of awareness and change With 25 of women having experienced some form of violence in her lifetime it is very likely we all know someone who may have been affected

For most of recorded history parental violence against children and menrsquos violence against wives was explicitly or implicitly condoned The reason violence against women and children is finally out in the open is that activists have brought it to global attention-- Riane Eisler

How can you help Become a source of references learn the tools and places that can help someone going through a difficult time Donrsquot be afraid to stand up for one another and demand justice for those that have suffered inequalities No one should have to suffer from violence especially at the hands of a loved one

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed people can change the world Indeed it is the only thing that ever has - Margaret Meade

the hiStory behind the

Ray of Hope Initi ati veIn 2009 OPBSI made the decision to take the next step and create a national initiative that would catapult its philanthropic efforts to a higher level of service and stewardship and place Omega Phi Beta as a leading organization in the fight to end violence against women

As sisters of Omega Phi Beta Sorority Inc we took on the task to serve and educate our community With our philanthropy of bringing awareness against violence against women we must all support and commit ourselves to this work It is our national philanthropy and it is also our responsibility as sisters of OPBSI to challenge ourselves and others to affect real change in our world not just locally but nationally and even internationally

In present day we have founded the Ray of Hope Initiative (ROHI) This is a national initiative created to educate and spread awareness of violence against women in the hopes that our efforts will eventually eradicate this issue in our communities It is an initiative that allows for flexibility and autonomy to future OPBSI leadership to coordinate an event of their choice annually

Additionally this approach will support diverse perspectives and direction if chosen on a yearly basis Being clear of what the Ray of Hope Initiative fundamentals are OPBSI can organize and coordinate different events every year and it will continue to align itself with the mission vision and objectives of the ROHI ensuring consistency and intent
