Below you will find an overview of the application process. Applications for all staff and management positions are accepted online only. Faculty, Teaching Associate, and Graduate Assistants and Instructional Student Assistant positions are coordinated through and posted on the Faculty Affairs Website. When you have successfully applied for a position at CSUN, you will receive an automatically-generated email confirming our receipt of your application. If you do not receive an email from Human Resources within 24 hours of your submission, email [email protected] for assistance. There is no process for walk-in or mailed applications. If this is your first time applying for a staff or management position, we recommend reading this guide first. The Selection Process: 1. Online Job Application Instructions

Recruitment Services Thank you for your interest in employment at California State University, Northridge (CSUN)!

Below you will find an overview of the application process. Applications for all staff and management positions are accepted online only. This also applies to our auxiliaries [The University Corporation (TUC), Associated Students (AS), and the University Student Union (USU)]. Faculty, Teaching Associate, and Graduate Assistants and Instructional Student Assistant positions are coordinated through and posted on the Faculty Affairs Website.

When you have successfully applied for a position at CSUN, you will receive an automatically-generated email confirming our receipt of your application. Job openings at CSUN can be accessed from the Careers@CSUN homepage located here: www.csun.edu/careers INTERNAL APPLICANTS

Current CSUN employees (Staff, Faculty and Student Workers) can review and apply for staff and management job openings via the myNorthridge Portal Staff homepage. On the CSUN homepage, www.csun.edu, login using your CSUN username and password through myNorthridge Portal. Find the Human Resources/Employee Pagelet under the Staff tab. Click on the View Job Openings/Apply link.

EXTERNAL Applicants

If you are not a current CSUN employee, choose the link “External Applicants” to access the current Staff/Management openings.

For Faculty openings, choose the link “Faculty Positions” to be directed to the Faculty Affairs Job Openings page.

Careers Homepage On the Careers page you can view a list of currently open positions. If the position is still posted then applications are still being accepted. If you have previously visited the careers page and have already registered, enter your User Name and Password. Click the Login button.

First Time Applicants: If this is your first time applying for a position at CSUN, you must register. Click the “Click here to Register” or the “Register Now” link.

Register After you click on the Register link, you will be asked to enter a User Name and Password. You will use this User Name and Password every time you log in to the CSUN Careers page. Enter a Password in the Password text field. Please reenter your password to confirm. Click the Register button.

Careers Home Page After logging in, you will be taken to the Careers Home page where you can create and update your Profile, search and apply for new jobs, as well as, review prior applications in the My Career Tools section. Click on the My Profile link in order to enter your contact information. If a position is still posted, then applications are still being accepted.

Create a Profile This section requires contact information including street address, phone and e-mail information. NOTE: The accuracy of this information is critical in order to receive automated and direct email messages as well as follow-up contact. Ensure all fields denoted with an asterisk (*) are completed. Click the yellow Save button to continue the application process.

View Job Opening Scroll down to review the Current Job Openings. You can view the details of a Job Opening by clicking on the Job Title link. To find a specific position more quickly, you can Sort the list by clicking on one of the links located at the top of each column (Date, Job Title, Job ID, Department).

View a Job Description & Apply A brief introduction to the position will display on the Job Description page. Click Apply Now to begin the application process. NOTE: Be sure to have all necessary information available as you begin. The system will timeout after 21 minutes of inactivity. Reminder: If you are a first time visitor, you will need to Register and create a profile before proceeding.

Reviewing the Job Posting Please be sure to pay special attention to the Qualifications and Pay, Benefits and Work Schedule sections of the job posting before applying.

The Qualifications section informs you of the minimum education and experience requirements for a particular position.

The Pay, Benefits and Work Schedule section informs if the position is benefits eligible, what the work schedule is, and most importantly what the anticipated HIRING RANGE will be for a position.

Apply Now: Choose Resume When you apply you will be prompted to upload a resume, use an existing resume or apply without using a resume. ATTACHMENTS NOTE: Documents must have the following criteria in order to upload or attach properly into the system: 1) Be in WORD or PDF format; should

contain the file extension “.doc” or “.pdf”. PDF is the preferred format.

2) Have a title with 25 or less characters (extensive titles may cause errors when HR goes to download the application)

3) Contain no periods “.” Or special characters in the filename (INCORRECT Example: John.doe.resume&cv-csun.docx)

4) Convert a Word file to PDF if it

contains a table, chart, special fonts,

formatting, and/or graphics/images.

5) Transcripts, Degrees, Licenses, and Certificates taken directly from the providing institution’s website may contain encrypted information; if you are going to attach these types of documents, it is best to print, re-scan and save the document as a PDF prior to uploading to our applicant system.

To upload your resume, select the Upload a new resume option and click the Continue button. NOTE: Uploading your resume will populate the application fields. The application sections should be reviewed to confirm the resume uploaded properly. If you are a returning applicant and have previously uploaded a resume, you will have the option to Use an existing resume. To do so, click on the Use an existing resume option and select a resume from the drop down list. Click the Continue button. Or you can choose to Apply without using a resume. You will need to enter all information in the application if you do not use a Resume.

Complete Application The Complete Application Page will display. This page will list the Job Title of the position for which you are applying. It will also display the resume document that you have uploaded (if applicable) and allow you to upload additional documents. Find the section that reads, “Attach Cover Letters and Additional Documents on this Page” and click the plus sign “Add Additional” under the Cover Letters and Attachments heading. Browse for your document and click upload when you are ready to attach a document. You may add additional documents that you feel are relevant to your application. NOTE: If you prefer to attach a document through the My Career Tools Cover Letters and Attachments page instead of through the individual application for a particular job opening, this will attach the document to all applications submitted. Please read instructions carefully, and review each section for completeness.

Work Experience

Scroll down the page and complete application sections appropriate to your background. To open or add to

sections, click on the plus sign below each section. Please open and correct any section that displays the term Please Update.

Add Employment History If you indicate approval to contact current or former supervisors, please include their contact information. Click the yellow Save & Return button to go back to the main application page. NOTE: You can only use numbers, decimal points and commas in the Ending Pay Rate field; the Dollar sign “$” is not required and will generate an error message.

Add Educational History To choose your Highest Education Level, click on the drop down menu button and select the appropriate degree or certificate. Click on the Add Post-Secondary Education History link to add additional education history. If you add any post-secondary education history, then *School, *Major, and *Degree are required information. Select the Country and State of your school. Click on the Magnifying Glass to Search for your School Name, Major and Degree. Do not type in this box. NOTE: If the School and/or Major are not listed under the magnifying glass search feature, please type the information in the “Other” field only. Trying to type in the box with the magnifying glass will generate an error message.

Licenses and Certificates, Languages and References These are available sections but not required unless expressed in the Job Posting description. NOTE: When adding professional or personal reference information, preferably supervisors, be sure to include a current telephone number so your references can be verified.

Referral Information & Close Relatives at CSUN These sections are REQUIRED sections and must be completed before submitting your application. Referral Information: If you do not see a source in the drop down field please type it in the Specific Referral Source field.

Before submitting the application, you can review the application for accuracy and completeness by clicking on the View My Application link located at the bottom of the application page. NOTE: If you have a pop-up blocker enabled, either disable it or Internet Explorer PC users can hold down the Control key simultaneous while clicking View My Application to allow a new window or tab to open. Please keep in mind that ONCE YOU SUBMIT your application/resume, it is saved electronically in our database and CANNOT BE EDITED further.

Save Application for Later You may choose the Save for Later option at the bottom or top of the page and return to the application at another time in the My Career Tools section. If you choose Save for Later, you will see the message “You have successfully saved your job application” at the top of the page. This puts your application in DRAFT Status. To access your application(s) that are “Saved for Later”, you will need to log-in through the Careers@CSUN webpage: www.csun.edu/careers and click on External Applicants then View Job Openings. Upon logging-in, you will be brought to the Careers Home Page again. To view your current application(s), you will need to click on the blue, underlined “Applications” link underneath “My Career Tools.” NOTE: If you attempt to view your application(s) by returning to the job posting page, you’ll receive an error stating that you have already applied for the position.

Additional Attachments

Cover letters and other attachments may be added by following the Careers Home link, visiting My Career Tools section and clicking on Cover Letters and Attachments. A link labeled Add Attachments is located near the bottom of the page. NOTE: ATTACHMENTS ADDED UNDER THIS SECTION WILL BE ATTACHED TO ALL OF YOUR APPLICATIONS.

NOTE: You CANNOT make changes once your application has been submitted. Please make sure your information is complete and accurate before submitting. Your application will NOT be processed unless it is properly submitted.

Submit Online Application Once submitted, applications cannot be changed, and you may only apply to a specific Job ID once. Self-Identification Details (Disability, Veteran & Ethnicity) After choosing the yellow Submit button, complete the optional census information and age disclaimer details. This information is optional and will not affect your candidacy for any position. Terms and Agreements Scroll down to the Terms and Agreements box. Read all the information provided. If you agree to these terms, click the “I agree to these terms” button. If you do not agree to these terms, select the “I do not agree” button. If you select this option you will not be able to submit your application. After the “I agree” button has been selected, the Submit button will become active. Click on the Submit button to submit your application and finish the online application process. The message “You have successfully submitted your application” will appear at the top of the My Applications page. If you provided a valid e-mail address in the My Profile section, you will receive an automatic e-mail confirming receipt of your application. NOTE: The e-mail notice will come from the system generated address: [email protected]. Be sure to check your SPAM/Junk Folder in case your email server does not recognize this address. If you do not receive an e-mail confirmation of your application please e-mail [email protected].
