On Thursday, February 17, 300 Members

gathered at Cidade do Saber, in Camaçari, in

the Metropolitan Region of Salvador, for “B

Day.” The event marked the start of activities

of the Bahia Norte Concessionaire, constitu-

ted by Odebrecht TransPort and Invepar.

The companies won the auction in August

2010 for the BA-093 Highway System

Concession, which includes BA-093 (Simões

Filho-Pojuca stretch), Via Parafuso (BA-535),

and Cia Aeroporto (BA-526), in addition to

the highways BA-512 (access to Camaçari),

BA-521 and BA-524 (Traffic Channel that con-

nects Camaçari to Aratu Port). With 121 km

of highways, the system connects the Aratu

Industrial Center, Camaçari Petrochemical

Center, Aratu Port Terminal and Salvador

International Airport, forming one of the

main corridors for the circulation and distri-

bution of products and services in Bahia.

During “B Day,” the professionals interacted

and listened to testimonials and presenta-

tions. For Damião Moreno, President of the

concessionaire, the meeting was an oppor-

tunity to strengthen Members’ commitment

to the new project. “A new company always

generates good expectations,” he said. “Many workers cele-

brated their first job.”

Happy to enter the job market after more than a year

searching, Jessila Souza, 19, said that she felt more confi-

dent when she was approved. “I see possibilities for gro-

wth,” she said. Bahia Norte will become part of my life.”

Grace Pavone, 23, also celebrates her first job: “I am very

happy with this chance and the tendency is for everything

to get better.”

Damião Moreno emphasized that it is important to show

Members that they are a part of the business. “Our aware-

ness generates responsibility with the users and with the

communities in which we are inserted,” said Moreno.

The BA-093 System will receive investments of R$ 1.7

billion for the recovery of roads, improvement of access

ways, conservation, maintenance and duplication of stre-

tches, in addition to the offer of assistance services for

users, which began on February 19.

Jessila Souza earned her first job at the Bahia Norte Concessionaire: “I see chances for growth.”

Over 2,000 people, including direct and indirect

workers, are already working on the project and it is esti-

mated that the number will reach 3,000 at the peak of

the work. Most of the professionals are residents of the

municipalities traversed by the highways, such as Pojuca,

Mata de São João, Dias D’Avila, Camaçari, Simões Filho,

Lauro de Freitas, Candeias and Salvador. “It has been an

incredible experience to participate in the training of the

concessionaires and the team,” said Francisco Roberto

Alves Machado, one of the Toll Plaza Supervisors. “We will

work with a results-focused approach,” he said.

Operating in Mexico for more than 18 years,

Odebrecht Latin America and Angola earned its first

individual contract in the country for the Michoacán

State Government.

The Michoacán Hydro-Agricultural Project (PHM)

resulted from the need for solutions for the scarcity of

water in the state’s agricultural region, aiming to inte-

grate Human, Productive, Environmental and Social

capitals through the storage and controlled distribu-

tion of water resources. Through a partnership with

Universidad Nacional Autônoma de México (UNAM), the

company also developed an environmental manage-

ment program with an emphasis on local animal and

plant species.

Consisting of a dam with the capacity to store 100

million cubic meters of water and a gravity-powered

channel system, the project will irrigate 13,000 hec-

More Water for Agriculture

With the construction work undertaken by Odebrecht Latin America and Angola, the agricultural region of the Mexican state will receive a better offer of water

tares of lands, produce 4.5

MW of energy and also have

a complementary pumping

system to meet the demand of

another 500 hectares, located

along the right bank of the

reservoir.

“This region, before marked

by a lack of opportunities, is

currently experiencing social

and economic changes that

the project’s implementation

promotes,” said Jorge Gavino,

Contract Director. “The cons-

truction work is being com-

pleted with 98% local labor at

all levels of operation, and the

number of direct work oppor-

tunities reached 1,300,” he said.

Jorge Gavino revealed that

through the Young Partner

Program, the project contrac-

ted 17 recent graduates from

Michoacán universities. Today,

they are the individuals res-

ponsible for the program.

THE CONCLUSION OF THE

RESERVOIR

On February 5, the

Michoacán State Governor,

Leonel Godoy Rangel – toge-

ther with mayors and senators

– took part in the closure of

the gates for the Centenário

de la Revolución Francisco J.

Múgica Dam. “We are fulfilling

our commitment of taking

social justice to the Michoacán

field,” he said.

With the completion of the

reservoir, the system will provi-

de water to supply the 13,000

hectares of farming lands.

During this year, two channels

began operating, extending a

total of 48 km, to distribute the

water designed for irrigation.

On March 1, Odebrecht

Realizações Imobiliárias

(OR) delivered its first

corporate building in

Alphaville, São Paulo, cal-

led the I-Tower.

An exclusive cocktail

party headed by Chef

Marcelo Sampaio and to

the sounds of Adriano

Grineberg was served to

more than 200 people,

including clients, autho-

rities from Barueri, inves-

tors and partners. During

the event, the guests had

the opportunity to take a

guided tour of one of the

development’s rooftops

and see the installations

and privileged view of

São Paulo and Alphaville.

With a General Sales

Value (GSV) of approxi-

mately R$ 300 million,

the I-Tower is a multi-

use complex that joins

the tower and 26 floors

with the future Shopping

Iguatemi Alphaville. “It

is a development that

R combines a series of attri-

butes that make it unique

in the region” said Claudio

Dall’Acqua Jr., Contract

Director at OR. “The I-Tower

serves companies and inves-

tors that view sustainability

as a differential, one capa-

ble of bringing real benefits

for the company’s mana-

gement and for the people

who use the building,” he

said.

“GREEN” CERTIFICATIONS

In 2009, the I-Tower

received the Leadership in

Energy and Environmental

Design (LEED) pre-cer-

tification, granted by

the U.S. Green Building

Council, attesting to the

development’s fulfillment

of sustainability criteria. In

order to obtain the certifica-

tion, it is necessary to adopt

construction measures

and procedures that seek

the efficient use of resour-

ces, focused on reducing

the social-environmental

impacts. These actions

are implemented in the

project’s design, during its

construction and after its

delivery, with the building is

already in operation.

The criteria include the

sustainable choice of ter-

rain (location, access to

services and public trans-

portation, among others),

rational water use, energy

and atmospheric emissions,

material consumption and

waste management, quality

of the constructed envi-

ronment and the project

design and innovation pro-

cess.

“Alphaville was created at

the start of the 1970s as a

subdivision model focused

on non-polluting indus-

tries,” explained Dall’Acqua

Jr. “The idea was to create a

planned neighborhood that

would promote people’s

well being The I-Tower is a

continuation of this goal,

now extended to the corpo-

rate segment,” he said.

> sustainable building

Similarly to the LEED

certification, the “Triple A”

seal is attributed to those

developments that meet

a series of requirements.

These include the quality

and construction technolo-

gies used, flexibility of the

layout, plans for a suspen-

ded ceiling trim, parking

area designed with a spot

every 35 m², windows with

good technical and acous-

tic performance, a building

automation and supervi-

sion system, as well as the

size of the roof.

The I-Tower has ample

separate spaces, flexibility

for the vertical or horizon-

tal connection of the units

and intelligent elevators.

The 26 floors house 380-m²

to 1,563-m² units, separa-

ted by floor. In all, there

are 936 parking spots, in

addition to a helideck with

the capacity to receive

helicopters weighing up to

six tons.

FOUND OUT WHY THE I-TOWER IS A “TRIPLE A” PROJECT It uses imported high performance windows that provide excel-

lent thermal-acoustic comfort and help reduce energy consump-

tion;

It uses an automatic frame opening system that uses internal and

external temperature sensors and wind speed measurement equi-

pment to identify the presence of rain and the best weather con-

dition for performing the “nightly cooling” of the units. This sys-

tem cools the unit, eliminating the need to use the air conditioner

the next morning, and consequently, saving energy;

It has a VRF air conditioning system, which with high performance

and low energy consumption, offers benefits such as the possibi-

lity of each unit turning on and off automatically and controlling

the temperature by zones (every 70 m²) through software; and

It is the only development in the region that has elevators with a

call anticipation system and regenerative system that generates

the energy used for its very operation. This system uses cutting-

edge technology that allows users to interact with the elevator

interface, indicating their desired destination. The idea is to

optimize the vertical transport of people, saving both time and

energy.

Over 200 people participated in

the launch of the I-Tower and were

The Chief Executive Officer of CAF

(Corporación Andina de Fomento), Enrique

Garcia, and the CEO of Organização

Odebrecht, Marcelo Odebrecht, signed, on

February 24, in Brasilia, a memorandum of

understanding with the aim of driving coo-

peration between the two entities in securing

additional benefits in development projects in

areas where Odebrecht has operations.

CAF is a group dedicated to developing pro-

jects to get carbon credits generated by infras-

tructure projects - mass transportation, lan-

dfills, power plants, and power cogeneration,

among others. Odebrecht, in turn, has a set of

projects with potential to get carbon credits in

opportunities that must be assessed beginning

with the definition of their feasibility proposals.

“The opportunity afforded by this allian-

ce between Odebrecht and CAF translates

in having a fast channel of communication

between an organization focused on the fea-

sibility of projects and their implementation

and another one that has the expertise CAF

has. It is actually a double fast track to defi-

ne where the potential is and how to get to

it,” said Sergio Leão, who is Responsible for

Engineering and Construction Operation

Sustainability.

He highlights three parties that are positively

affected with the agreement: the beneficia-

Partnership to secure carbon credits

Enrique Garcia and Marcelo Odebrecht: the alliance between CAF and Odebrecht will drive new projects in the carbon credit market

MEMBERS OF CAF VISIT THE HEADQUARTERS

Peter Vonk, vice-president for the

Productive and Financial Sectors,

Ignacio Fombona, Finance Council

Director, Felix Bergel, Director for

the Southern Region, and Maria

Eugênia Chuecos, Main Executive of

the Corporate and Financial Sector

in Brazil, all of CAF, were at the

Organization’s main office building, in

Salvador, Bahia, on February 16.

Accompanied by Gilberto Sá,

Member of the Board of Directors of

Odebrecht S.A., Maurício Medeiros,

CEO of the Odebrecht Foundation,

and Marcos Lima, Responsible for

Odebrecht Administradora e Corretora

de Seguros (OCS), the CAF representa-

tives got to know the Cultural Center

and, at the end of the visit, spoke with

Norberto Odebrecht, the Honorary

Chairman of Odebrecht S.A.

The representatives of the organi-

zations met to discuss a proposed

partnership between CAF and the

Odebrecht Foundation for the imple-

mentation of professional programs. A

credit line worth $200 million was set,

ries of the projects, who are expected to have a

favored feasibility equation; the two organiza-

tions, with new projects made feasible; and Latin

America, in areas where there is the possibility

of carbon credit-derived social investments.

“Development, sustainability, and competitive-

ness are now inseparable and synergistic,” says

Sergio Leão.

DYNAMICS OF THE AGREEMENT

CAF and Odebrecht will have a consultation

routine on potential gains in carbon credits whe-

never an opportunity for a new project is deter-

mined as being feasible. Once the interest has

been defined and the indication of this potential

confirmed, both organizations will work together

to confirm the feasibility and approve the secu-

ring of carbon credits.

Odebrecht TransPort - in association with

Petrobras, Camargo Corrêa, Cosan Açúcar e

Álcool, Copersucar, and Uniduto Logística - will

design, build and operate, from 2012, a multi-

modal logistics system consisting of a network

of polyducts ranging for approximately 1,900

km and integrated the Tietê-Paraná Waterway.

The system will allow for long-distance light

fuel transport and storage, with an emphasis on

ethanol - a business worth R$6 billion.

Logum Logística S.A. is the company incor-

porated to implement the venture, which will

receive ethanol from the producers and integra-

te pipelines and waterways to the road, rail, and

sea (export and coastal shipping) modals. The

system will cover the states of Mato Grosso do

New solutions for ethanol transportation

Sul, Goiás, Minas Gerais, São Paulo, and Rio de

Janeiro. The transport capacity will be 21 billion

liters per year.

With initial funding in the order of R$100

million, Logum embodies projects that had

been being developed separately. The current

project is the outcome of preliminary studies

conducted by PMCC Soluções Logísticas de

Etanol (which has Petrobras and Camargo

Corrêa as its shareholders) alongside Odebrecht

TransPort and Uniduto.

The ownership breakdown is as follows:

Odebrecht TransPort (20%), Petrobras (20%),

Cosan (20%), Copersucar (20%), Camargo Correa

(10%), and Uniduto (10%). Transpetro, Petrobras’

transport subsidiary, will be responsible for ope-

rating and maintaining the pipeline system and

the waterway barges.

Logum’s integrated system, a major infrastruc-

ture project, will allow for a reduction of about

20% in transportation costs, currently done

mainly by truck, and provide stability to the fees.

It also affords environmental benefits because

it is cleaner, safer, and sustainable - the new

modal is one of the solutions designed to redu-

ce the increasing volume of trucks that travel

the Brazilian roads carrying flammable products

and emitting CO2 into the atmosphere.

POINTS OF OPERATION

Logum already counts on the existing trans-

portation facilities belonging to the Petrobras

system, which allow for immediate access to

the São Paulo Metropolitan Region market by

means of the Barueri, Guarulhos, Guararema,

and São José dos Campos delivery terminals, in

addition to the Greater Rio de Janeiro Region

market and to the export market over the Ilha

d’Agua Port, in the State of Rio de Janeiro.

There will initially be four section construction

phases, marking the beginning of the opera-

tions for each part.

Phase 1, with operations scheduled to go on

stream in 2012, comprises the section that cuts

through the cities of Uberaba (state of Minas

Gerais), Ribeirão Preto, and Paulínia (state of

São Paulo). Phase 2, in operation from 2013,

covers the waterway and the stretches of

pipeline ranging from the Anhembi to Paulínia

and São José dos Campos (state of São Paulo).

Phase 3, slated to start operating in 2014, will

cross Jataí, Quirinópolis, Itumbiara (state of

Goiás), and Uberaba (state of Minas Gerais).

Finally, phase 4, which will stretch from São

José dos Campos to the Caraguatatuba deli-

very terminal, is expected to be up and run-

ning from 2015.

The pipeline receiving terminals are located

in Jataí, Quirinópolis, Senador Canedo, in the

state of Goiás; Uberaba, in the state of Minas

Gerais; and Ribeirão Preto, Paulínia, in the state

São Paulo; and the waterway receiving terminals

are in Aparecida Taboada, state of Mato Grosso

do Sul; Presidente Epitácio, Araçatuba, and

Anhembi, in the state São Paulo.

The project is relevant to Brazil, since it allows

for the improvement of the country’s supply

system, strengthens the Brazilian position as a

power in the bioenergy sector, and helps to turn

ethanol into a global commodity.

The first training day, held

on February 2 by consultant

Millennia Brun, brought 82

members together, among

whom 70 expatriates and 12

locals. Over the next three

months, the course will con-

tinue via online work and

on-site discussion groups.

The presentations, videos,

and interactive activities

encourage the participants

to reflect on the basic

principles, key concepts,

and criteria of TEO. “Our

leaders follow the TEO and

the trust they convey to us

urges us to seek new chal-

lenges,” said the engineer

Rodrigo Ortiz.

Among the points of

the TEO, Harriett Keamu,

also on the Odebrecht

International team in

Liberia, highlights the

Spirit to Serve. “We learn

increasingly more in order

to always grow. All mem-

bers are also willing to

teach you,” she said.

In Brazil, members of Odebrecht Energia and of Odebrecht Infraestrutura took part in discussions on the TEO for five months

To Pedro Paulo Paul Tosca,

Contract Director, the TEO

is composed of sustainable

values because it drives

business growth, social

development, and environ-

mental preservation. “’If the

2020 Vision is a challenge to

be pursued, the TEO is the

philosophy that will support

the teams in overcoming

these goals,” he points out.

ON THE OTHER SIDE OF

THE SEA

In February, in Argentina,

Brazil, and the United

States, the Organization’s

companies held

Introduction to Culture

programs for new members

and for those with more

time on the job.

On the 21st, Odebrecht

Engenharia Industrial and

Odebrecht América Latina

e Angola brought together,

in Argentina, 37 professio-

nals for the Second Meeting

of the 5th Class of the

program, led by Professor

Oscar Ferreira. The TEO and

the role of the Leader for

the Survival, Growth, and

Perpetuity of the company

were also discussed during

the Exercising Leadership

Seminar, on the 22nd and

the 23rd, which counted

on the participation of

25 members of several

Odebrecht Engenharia

Industrial projects in the

country.

On the 21st, Odebrecht

Energia and Odebrecht

Infraestrutura organized

the closing ceremony

for the Introduction to

Culture program, which

brought 47 members

together in Rio de Janeiro.

Activities got underway

in September last year in

Salvador, Bahia.

Odebrecht United States,

an Odebrecht International

ABOUT COOPRAP

Created in 2005 to drive the develo-

pment of the quilombola communities

of the Southern Lowlands, promo-

ting quality of life with sustainabili-

ty, COOPRAP has 105 members. The

cooperative installed a broom factory,

called “Citizen Industry,” and reintrodu-

ced coconut, straw and piassaba fiber-

based handicrafts into the region. The

cooperative members produce different

articles, including baskets, manda-

las, purses, trays, buckets and lamps,

among others. Currently, the products

are sold to the Tok&Stok, Bonanza and

Arco-íris chain of stores (handicrafts),

GBarbosa, Ebal and Wal-Mart (brooms)

and Souza Ribeiro and WRossi (piassaba

fibers).

According to cooperative member

Aniele Rosário, from the commu-

nity of Boitaraca, located in Nilo

Peçanha, Bahia, the handicraft work

changed her life. “I can plan my

schedule and honor my commit-

ments,” she said. “I have my own

income.” Aniele also pointed out

The 1st Inventory of

Greenhouse Gases (GHG) by

the Odebrecht Engineering

and Construction companies

was completed in February of

this year. The study fulfills the

agreement established by the

company in the Open Letter

to Brazil on Climate Change in

August 2009. The results will be

disclosed in the Organization’s

2010 Annual Report, which will

be launched next May.

The GHG inventory involved

the construction projects and

developments of the companies

Odebrecht Energia, Odebrecht

Engenharia Industrial,

Odebrecht Infraestrutura,

Odebrecht Latin America and

Angola, Odebrecht Venezuela

and Odebrecht International,

as well as the corporate activi-

ties of the 11 offices in seven

Brazilian states and 10 offices

abroad. In all, 116 construction

projects and 22 offices in 14

countries were inventoried.

Over 400 people participated

and contributed toward the ela-

boration of the document.

Performing the first inven-

tory in 2010 was a task that

demanded the coordination

and effort of the different areas

at the companies’ construction

sites and offices. “The practice

of emission inventories is rela-

tively recent in the engineering

and construction sector on a

global level. The magnitude of

our inventory, with the diver-

sity of operations and exten-

sive geographic distribution,

accredits and highlights our

operations in the area of sustai-

nability,” explained Sérgio Leão,

the professional responsible for

Sustainability in the Odebrecht

Engineering and Construction

Operations.

The assembly of the panels will allow for the permanent operation of the gates in April of this year

The two last panels of the segment gate

at the Main Spillway for the Santo Antônio

Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP) were laun-

ched on February 19. This will allow those

responsible to conduct the final commis-

sioning tests and authorize the permanent

operation of the gates in April of this year.

The spillway is designed to regulate the

level of the plant reservoir. Its gates are the

largest of the surface segment type to be

manufactured in the entire world in terms

of height and hydrostatic load.

Before the conclusion of the panels on

February 16, Rondônia Governor Confúcio

Moura visited the construction work for the

plant. He cited the development’s impor-

tance for increasing the State’s wealth, for

the growth of revenues, offer of work and

qualification of local labor. “It is a project

approved by the people and by the environ-

mental agencies, Moura said.

Moura and his group were welcomed

by Bonifácio Pinto Junior, the Managing

Director of Odebrecht Energia, Mário

Lúcio Pinheiro, Contract Director at the

Construtor Santo Antônio Consortium,

Miguel Senna, Contract Director at

Odebrecht-Montagem, and Eduardo de

Melo Pinto, the President of the Santo

On February 26, Odebrecht Realizações

Imobiliárias (OR) launched its first residen-

tial development in Morumbi, São Paulo,

in partnership with Exto Engenharia: Green

Morumbi. With a General Sales Value (GSV)

surpassing R$ 200 million, it is the year’s

highest residential bid in the region.

It has 400 apartments divided into three

towers with different floor plan options

- 84 m², 104 m² and 133 m² -, duplex

penthouses and maisons on the ground

floor. Located on a 31,000-m² area, the

development also has 12,000 m² of pre-

served green area. “Green Morumbi offers

the differential of adding value to one of

the neighborhood’s main characteristics,

which is its notable trees, and offers resi-

dents a range of services right next to their

home,” said Marcello Arduin, Incorporation

Director at OR.

The residents have the guarantee that the

extensive green terrain will remain untou-

ched. “The landscape that can be seen from

the apartment balconies is the same that

can be seen today, without the risk of new

buildings jeopardizing residents’ visual con-

tact with the unique scenery surrounding

the development” said Arduin.

The residents of Santa Gertrudes in rural São Paulo,

who before had to wait for the right time to use

water, now enjoy a new reality. In the neighborhoo-

ds located at higher altitudes, where the population

suffered from a frequent lack of water, Foz do Brasil is

developing actions to resolve the supply problems.

Since the start of the concession in November

of last year, R$ 500,000 have been invested in the

municipality’s sanitation system. The resources

applied primarily for the Water Treatment Plant

(WTP), with the replacement of equipment, improved

the quality of the water distributed. Its color, before

quite dark, is now clearer and meets the standards of

Brazil’s Ministry of Health.

Fernando Eduardo Marino, a resident of the neigh-

borhood of Jardim São Joaquim, has already noticed

a change in the quality of the water that reaches

his home. “The water from my faucet was dirty,” he

recalls. “After Foz do Brasil arrived to Santa Gertrudes,

I have received clean water.”

Braskem’s acquisition of Quattor

has been fully approved by the

Administrative Council for Economic

Defense (CADE). The negotiations for

the acquisition of Quattor were con-

cluded in January 2010 through an

Investment Agreement signed betwe-

en Odebrecht, Petrobras, Braskem

and UNIPAR.

The acquisition positions Braskem

as the largest producer of thermo-

plastic resins in the Americas, eleva-

ting it to a new position in terms scale

and efficiency and preparing it to face

the challenges of the international

market.

As part of the operations, the com-

pany agrees to notify CADE ahead

of time about future contracts for

the purchase of resins from foreign

suppliers that contain the exclusivi-

ty clause and which fulfill the other

legal requirements that make such

contracts notifiable - in line with

the law project that is restructuring

the Brazilian Competition Defense

System.

Furthermore, Braskem agreed to

submit, periodically and under the

regime of confidentiality, information

about its contracts and import and

resin sale activities.

The Braskem-Idesa joint venture has taken

yet another important step in the development

of its Ethylene XXI Project in Mexico. The com-

pany chose the Lupotech T process technology

from the Dutch company LyondellBasell for the

300,000-ton PEBD (low density polyethylene)

plant, one of the three polyethylene plants inte-

grated with the Mexico project that is set to begin

operating in 2015. The industrial unit will be built

in the region of the Coatzacoalcos/Nanchital

Petrochemical Complexes in the State of Veracruz.

Braskem-Idesa believes that the technology will

bring important benefits for the project, since

the Lupotech T allows it to produce an extensive

range of polyethylenes, with different rates of

fluidity and with excellent optical and mechanical

properties. “With the Lupotech T process tech-

nology, we can compete in the North American

market,” said Roberto Bischoff, CEO of Braskem-

Idesa. “We will be leaders in production cost and

we will have a more ample product portfolio,” said

Bischoff.
