Official Publication of Zone C-6 Lions Clubs June 2016
ZC Sharon’s Message
It is hard to believe that the end of our Lions year
is almost here. It has truly been my honor to have
worked with you and to have had an opportunity to
get to know many of you better. We have accom-
plished so much and reached so many lives as
a C-6 Zone. This year we have lost so many
dear Lions but in the same note many of our clubs
have grown their memberships. We are well on
our way to reach the District goal of +1. Couple of things you
have yet to do: 1) file your MD19 paperwork for club officer excel-
lence, forms available on MD19 Website under Contest & Awards;
2) make sure your club officers complete their respective officer
training; 3) begin to plan your centennial project—confer with your
incoming Zone Chair Cindee Day, Yelm Lions and your District
Centennial Chair Bob Johnson, Fife Lions; 4) make sure your
club officers are installed; and 5) coordinate dates with Cindee
(ZC) to plan your 2016-2017 Zone Chair and District Governor vis-
its this summer and fall.
I have a special request from Cindee and a great opportunity for
members in Zone C-6. She is in need of a Zone Secretary and a
Zone Newsletter editor. This is a great opportunity to be an active
part of the Zone and be able to share important information with
our members. If interested, please contact Cindee at her email:
It will be a great 2016-2017 year between in-coming International
President Bob Corlew’s (Tennessee) theme of “New Mountains to
Climb” and our own District Governor Jan Weatherly’s theme of
“Let Your Light Shine” we are in for an exciting time.
Thank you all for your hard work and for your friendships, new and
old. Have a very safe summer and I look forward to continuing to
work with you as your incoming 2nd Vice District Governor.

Around the C-SIX Zone Father’s Day Quotes Jimmy Piersal, on How to Diaper a Baby: Spread the diaper in the position of the dia-mond with you at bat. Then, fold second base down to home and set the baby on the pitch-er's mound. Put first base and third together, bring up home plate and pin the three togeth-er. Of course, in case of rain, you gotta call the game and start all over again. Ernest Hemingway To be a successful father, there's one absolute rule: when you have a kid, don't look at it for the first two years. Phyllis McGinley The thing to remember about fathers is... they're men. A girl has to keep it in mind: They are dragon-seekers, bent on improbable res-cues. Scratch any father, you find someone chock-full of qualms and romantic terrors, believing change is a threat, like your first shoes with heels on, like your first bicycle... John Aubrey Sir Walter, being strangely surprised and put out of his countenance at so great a table, gives his son a damned blow over the face. His son, as rude as he was, would not strike his father, but strikes over the face the gentleman that sat next to him and said, "Box about: twill come to my father anon." James Baldwin If the relationship of father to son could really be reduced to biology, the whole earth would blaze with the glory of fathers and sons. Helen Hayes When Charles first saw our child Mary, he said all the proper things for a new father. He looked upon the poor little red thing and blurt-ed, "She's more beautiful than the Brooklyn Bridge." Peter De Vries My father hated radio and he could not wait for television to be invented so that he could hate that too. Robert Orben Life was a lot simpler when what we honored was father and mother rather than all major credit cards. Bob Monkhouse My father only hit me once -- but he used a Volvo. Robert Orben Life was a lot simpler when what we honored was father and mother rather than all major credit cards. Ann Richards I have always had the feeling I could do any-thing and my dad told me I could. I was in col-lege before I found out he might be wrong. Jay Leno A lot of controversy over this invasion of Iraq. In fact, Nelson Mandela was so upset, he called Bush's dad. How embarrassing, when world leaders start calling your father.

May 6th and 7th, Friday and Saturday, LSL club members were out in force collecting donations for White Canes Day. Club members stationed themselves at the entrances to Discount Grocery
Outlet on Martin Way and Marvin Rd, and QFC on Yelm Hiway with a load of plastic white canes, brochures, and information regarding the Lion’s sight programs. So a big thanks to our hosting stores.
It is always surprising how many have a story to tell about how the Lions helped them or someone they know to get a pair of glasses or some other assistance when they needed it. It is also sur-prising how many people are unaware of Lions in general and what they do. Most have seen the logo but been informed of the many programs offered. So it is imperative that we educate them to what we do.
A total of 56 hours reeled in $840 from our gener-ous community thanks to the work of the club members. Thanks to all of you that worked the event, and made it successful.
South Sound HS Leo Club
Lacey Sunrise White Cane’s Day
By Lion Peggy Rogers, Chairperson
South Sound HS Leo club may be short on numbers but are strong on action! Several weeks they learned the Lacey Medical Equip-ment Bank was in need of several items, in-cluding a supply of adult diapers. So the group sprang into action and organized a drive to collect them.
Montez, Trisha, Andrew, and Desiree made posters to post on the door of every class-room and on bulletin boards and made ap-peals to relatives, friends, classmates, and Lacey Sunrise Lions.. The result was a col-lection of 10 cases of diapers that was taken to the medical bank on 5-22.
Leos are particularly appreciative of the Lacey Sunrise members who pooled their money and had LSL Lion Jim Perrou pur-chase diapers through his Dupont Pharmacy. The Lacey Medical Equipment Bank was very happy to receive the supply and assured the club they would go to some very appre-ciative seniors. Thanks to all those who par-ticipated and to the Lacey Sunrise members who were so generous.

LIONS “PLEASE HELP VETS”
LERC News
As with the Clubs the Northwest Lions Eyeglass Center is closing out this
year and preparing for next. Again like many clubs we have some new officers and some have agreed to extend their time in their present positions.
Kerby Kee, President
Don Schmidt, Immediate Past President
Hope Ramsdale, Secretary and VP Administration
Lyell Clark, Treasurer
Pat Bucknell, VP Operations
Ron Reierson, VP Outreach/Satellite Operations.
It is anticipated that Judy Ann Bergvall will be appointed Director for District C but Kerby’s replace-ment in D has not been name. We have some vacant positons so please consider contributing some time. Some important positions are administrative and do not require much time at the cen-ter.
I believe the landscaping is essentially complete. Trees and stumps removed, site prepared and hydro seeded. Nothing to announce as far as long range plans. Those who have driven by and seen all of the trucks and equipment, that is for some work being done on the cell tower.
The Executive Committee is not meeting June so this was my last meeting in my current position. I did not feel well prepared when I accepted the position of President but thanks to the help and support of the Executive Committee, Staff, volunteers and all of the Lions in our Multiple District we managed to get it done. Thank you.
Lions Project New Hope needs your help. At this time we have 3 spots out of 12 filled with Lions working to help Vets with PTSD. We have 5 retreats planned for this year and already cancelled one of them. We need Lions to step forward and serve on the Board in the following positions:
1. Secretary 2. Treasurer 3. Vice President Operation 4. Fund raising Oversight 5. Workshop Organization 6. Grants 7. Volunteer Coordinator
8. Coordinator with Lions clubs.
Our up coming retreats are planned for July 15-17 Family Retreat with Give An Hour spon-soring the retreat lead by Dug Y. Lee, PhD.
The retreat in Aug 26-28 is looking for someone to sponsor. We have a few Lions ready to work but need help.
On Sept 16-18 Kelly Dickinson, from Federal Way Vet Center will be running the Women’s Retreat, which was very successful last year.
Again, we need help Lions. Our next Board meeting will be June 21st
at Carr’s Rest. In Lakewood on Bridgeport Way at 11:30 AM. Please come and let us know what you would like to do to help. Job description will be available.
Non Lions are always welcome to come to meetings and to join the Board.
If we all work together we can really help on Vets with PTSD.

The Rainier High School ‘Top 5’ academic seniors, their parents / guardians and school adminis-trators were treated to dinner at Emma’s Grill House, Yelm on Wednesday, May 11.
This is an annual event hosted by the Rainier Lions, coordinated by President Evan Burnett, to recognize and congratulate the students, their families and school staff.
The Lions provide a limo ride from the school to the restaurant to make the evening more memo-
rable for the students.
The seniors honored were: Augustine Maddox, Kera Anderson, Keanna Vermillion, Ellyanna Barnes and Nichole Holmes.
School staff included Counselor Kristin Robinson, Principal Bryon Bahr and Vice Principal John Beckman.
The Rainier Lions appreciate the friendly service and accommoda-tions at Emma’s Grill House to make this an enjoyable occasion.

LSL Golf Tournament
"Sunrise Lions 2nd Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament was held at Capital City Golf Course on
Saturday, May 14th and although the weather was not up to par, the golfers were!
The winning team, led by Captain, Larry Deines, scored an impressive 62. Larry's teammates were
Bob Lowry, Glenn Crandell and Jim Robertson. Congratulations! The defending champs, led by
Captain Ilias Murr, missed the mark by one stroke! There were 15 teams totaling 60 golfers who
participated in the tournament.
The club raised $4,652 (net) from the tournament, which will be used to fund scholarships for North
Thurston School District high school seniors.
Many thanks to the golfers who participated and especially to the hole sponsors and contributing
businesses. We appreciate your support!"

How would you like to spend a weekend at a Camp on a Lake this summer? Lions Project New
Hope NW needs volunteers for our summer retreats for veterans and their families. Two family re-
treats will be held this Summer-July 15-17 and August 26-28. The retreats
are held at Camp Grinwood on Hicks Lake in Lacey. The primary role of
volunteers is to provide activities for the children of veteran’s families while
the adults are attending workshop. Activities include fishing on the lake,
canoeing, nature hikes, sports, and games for young children. Meals will
be provided to volunteers and RV and Tent campsites are available for only
$12 a night. Lions volunteers who have children may bring them to the
camp.
Volunteering for Lions Project New Hope retreats offers an opportunity for
individual Lions to show combat veterans appreciation for their service.
If you are interested in volunteering, go our website-
