Ethics
Lions Clubs International
TO SHOW my faith in the worthiness of myvocation by industrious application to the endthat I may merit a reputation for quality ofservice.
TO SEEK success and to demand all fairremuneration or profit as my just due, but toaccept no profit or success at the price of myown self-respect lost because of unfairadvantage taken or because of questionableacts on my part.
TO REMEMBER that in building up mybusiness it is not necessary to tear downanother’s; to be loyal to my clients orcustomers and true to myself.
WHENEVER a doubt arises as to the right orethics of my position or action towards others,to resolve such doubt against myself.
TO HOLD friendship as an end and not ameans. To hold that true friendship exists noton account of the service performed by one toanother, but that true friendship demandsnothing but accepts service in the spirit inwhich it is given.
ALWAYS to bear in mind my obligations as acitizen to my nation, my state and mycommunity, as to give them my unswervingloyalty in word, act and deed. To give themfreely of my time, labor and means.
TO AID others by giving my sympathy to thosein distress, my aid to the weak, my substanceto the needy.
TO BE CAREFUL with my criticism and liberalwith my praise; to build up and not destroy.

EXECUTIVE COUNCIL
The EXECUTIVE COUNCIL of District 2-X1 was formed to bring
officers of all Clubs together, especially the Presidents and the
Secretaries. Its function is to act as a coordinating council, to
create opportunities for the exchange of ideas between the Clubs,
and to make possible the dissemination of Clubs in the promotion
of Lionism.
Club Officers' attendance at meetings of Executive Council is one
of the criteria to qualify for District Governor’s "100% Secretary

Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) is the official
charitable organization of Lions Clubs International and
supports Lions’ compassionate works by providing grant
funding for their local and global and humanitarian
efforts.
LCIF helps Lions improve peoples’ lives around the
world, from combatting vision problems to responding to
major catastrophes, to providing valuable life skills to
youth. On average, LCIF grants $30 Million annually in
these focus areas (Saving Sight, Serving Youth,
Providing Disaster Relief & Meeting Humanitarian
Needs). Since LCIF began in 1968, it has awarded more
than $1 Billion in grants to improve the lives of people
worldwide.
Most of LCIF’s funding comes from Lions around the
world. LCIF is an efficient and effective charity having
been ranked as the number one non-governmental
organization worldwide by The Financial Times and has
been rated by Charity Navigator as one of the most
effective charities for the last 10 years.
Since LCIF does not receive any portion of club dues, it
is totally dependent on donations from Lions and like-
minded individuals and companies.
CONTRIBUTING MEMBERSHIP PROGRAM: An
annual program that recognizes three levels of support:
$50 One Star, $100 Two Star, and $200 Three Star.
These contributions apply toward individual recognition
and awarding of Melvin Jones Fellowships.
MELVIN JONES FELLOWSHIPS (MJF): An award that
recognizes an individual’s (including non-Lions)
donations of $1,000, in one sum or installments. Melvin
Jones Fellows receive an attractive lapel pin, a plaque,

established as the highest form of LCIF’s recognition to
acknowledge an individual’s dedication and
commitment to humanitarian service. MJF is an honor,
not an Award. The honoree need not be a Lions club
member. Melvin Jones Fellows receive an attractive
lapel pin, a plaque and a congratulatory letter.

recognize lions’ continued commitment to LCIF. PMJF
receives a new lapel pin and a congratulatory letter (one

The Lions Sight and Tissue Foundation
A 501c3 Charity of District 2-X1
The Lions Sight & Tissue Foundation (LSTF) assists
people by providing vision care services and is an official
District 2-X1 charity.
The LSTF can support the Lions
Clubs in District 2-X1 by bringing
the Neil Roach Mobile Eye Clinic
to their community & helping them
hold Vision Screenings. By going
to http://lstf.org you will find Bus
Schedules for the Neil Mobile, forms & services. There is
also information on events & activities here.
There are several ways your club can help support the
LSTF & they are as follows:
1. Hold a clinic in your community – When you
are helping your community, then you are
getting the Lions Club & LSTF Name out there.
People will remember the name of an
organization who helped them. The impact of
this service on the lives of these children and
adults is profound. Without glasses, children are
less likely to succeed in school, leading to drop-
outs, gang involvement, and potential
incarceration. Vision problems are 3 times as
likely in Juvenile Detention Centers as in the
general population. For adults, having a pair of
glasses can mean the difference in getting a job
or becoming a drain on society’s resources. The
sense of pride in becoming self-sufficient can
change their lives.
2. Participate in one of our events or
fundraisers:
a) Howard Snyder Golf Tournament (TBD)
b) Bowl-a-thon (TBD)
c) Denim & Diamonds Dinner (TBD)
We want to thank all our supporters & Sponsors,
especially Pete’s Tire & Automotive for all their
continued support & generous maintenance of our Neil
Mobile.

Lions Sight & Tissue Foundation, Inc.A 501c3 Charity of District 2-X1
The LIONS SIGHT & TISSUE FOUNDATION, INC. of
District 2-X1 (LS&TF) is a working Board of Directors
made up of 15 elected voting members plus any
appointed Officers & the sitting 1VDG. This Board works
for the Lions of District 2-X1 to assist clubs within their
communities to serve people who cannot afford the
proper vision care or medical assistance for vision
related surgeries.
In November 2017 the LSTF received their new more
compact Mobile Eye Clinic. Lion Neil Roach who helped
design the bus, making sure we did not need a
Commercial License to drive (this cuts out the Driver Fee
we have had in the past), never got to see the final
product so the LSTF Board voted to call the new bus the
“Neil Roach Mobile Eye Clinic” & on the door “Neil
Mobile”. Also, this past Lion’s Year, since the LSTF is still
partnered with Essilor Vision Foundation, we have been
able to reduce the cost of eyeglasses. We still partner
with local Lions Clubs & Independent School Districts to
serve approximately 2,000 children & adults.
Some of the costs the clubs are asked to help with are
as follows:
* Cost to bring the bus to a location & coordinate clinic or
bring bus to a location for Parade, PR, etc.
** If club does not provide their own Doctor
*** For all eyeglasses, doesn’t matter what the strength
The LSTF needs the support of the Lions & Lions Club
of District 2-X1. Some of the ways to support is your
100% Contribution of $5.00 per member. By hosting a
Clinic, it helps to promote the LSTF but also your club.

purchase to Honor a Special Member in your club.

PDG F. X. “PANCHO” LUNA
FELLOWS:The “Pancho Luna Fellowship” was established in 2007, to pay
tribute to PDG Francisco X “Pancho” Luna. PDG Luna served
District 2-X1 for nearly 50 years (including as District Governor
in 1975-76) supporting every charity and giving freely of his
time and resources. He was most dedicated to the Texas
Lions Eye Bank (now Lions Sight & Tissue Foundation) and
was instrumental in changing Mexico Laws to help cornea
transplant patients and establishing The Eye Bank of
Monterrey, Mexico. PDG Luna, who died in 2006, worked
untiringly for LS&TF making him synonymous with the work
done. For his dedication and Lionistic work in Texas and
Mexico, Lion F.X. “Pancho” Luna was inducted into the “Texas
Lions Hall of Fame” in 2001. PDG F.X “Pancho” Luna Award

Julien C. Hyer Lions
Youth Camp, Inc.The Julien C. Hyer Lions Youth Camp was organized
in 1973 and the first camping session was held in 1974.
Each year the Lions of District 2-X1 and 2-E2 host 30
"campers" (boys & girls) from around the globe. The
campers visit Texas for five weeks as they learn about
Texas, Lionism, and the American way of life. The Camp
is named in honor of Past International President
(1931-1932) Judge Julien C. Hyer, an active lion for 55
years and the founder of the Lions Clubs International
Youth Exchange Program.
The camp typically begins the last weekend in June and
closes at the end of July/early August. The students stay
with host families in and around the Dallas/Fort Worth
area. While here, they become part of their host families
as they experience many things associated with Texas
such as rodeos, line dancing, BBQ and much more.
During the first week, they get acclimated to the new
time zone, spend time with their host families and begin
to meet other youth from the JCH camp. The second
week is spent in Lake Texoma where many activities are
planned for them as a group. They will return to DFW for
a couple of days and then it’s off again to the state
capital. In Wimberley, the students are hosted by a
different set of host families. They spend a day in the Hill
Country cities of Austin, San Antonio, San Marcos and
Wimberley.
Upon arriving back in the DFW area, they have just a few
days to relax and attend the Mesquite Rodeo before they
are off again to Lubbock. They are welcomed by the new
host families in Lubbock with a Texas style Bar-B- Q,
music and dancing. They have the opportunity to go
horseback riding, tour many different attractions and see
“Texas,” a world-renowned play about our state in the
setting of Palo Dura Canyon.
After a month of travel and adventure, they once again
head back "home" for the final leg of their trip. The last
week in Dallas-Fort Worth has a busy schedule with a
day at Six Flags, visits to area Lions Clubs, a night of
dancing at Billy Bob’s, last minute souvenir shopping, a
Texas Rangers game and the Farewell Dance.

Of course, it all starts with a puppy. This puppy is raised for
the 1st 7 weeks by a puppy mom. Then it is weaned from
its mother and given to a puppy raiser. The puppy raiser's
job is to train 12 basic commands (sit, stay, heel etc.), test
its agility skills (will it go up and down stars) and socialize
it by introducing him to the mall, grocery store, and traffic in
real life situations. The puppy is put on a specific diet and
schedule. No people food, and no raw hide bone either.
There are several don'ts. We don't throw Frisbees, don't
throw balls, we don't play tug of war. These dogs are going
to be large and are susceptible to injury at this age. At the
end of 12 to 13 months, the dog is brought back to
Rochester Hills MI where it is given a complete physical; its
skills are tested and then taken on a walk through the city
to check its social skills. Once accepted in the program the
dog will spend the next 4 months in training to become a
Leader Dog. During that time it will learn 45 commands
(find the sidewalk, find the curb, right, left). After training the
dog will be matched with an individual who will be 16 years
or older, who is legally blind, in reasonable health and have
basic orientation and mobility skills. Once this team is
formed, they will spend 26 days in an on-site residential
program learning how to become an independent and
empowered guide dog team.
Club's 100% Contribution is $2 per member based on 1st
July membership. Designate the check for “100%”. Also
there are several giving options available depending on
your philanthropic goals and personal circumstances. If
you have questions about how to make a gift, please visit

MELVIN JONES LIONS
INTERNATIONAL MEMORIALhttp:/lions-mjm.org
Located at Fort Thomas (birth place of Melvin Jones),
Arizona, the Melvin Jones Lions International Memorial
was erected and dedicated in 1965. The memorial is the
result of a movement of Lions in Arizona to find a way to
honor Melvin Jones, founder of Lions Clubs International.
In 1961 the International Board of Directors proclaimed
January 13 (birthday of Melvin Jones) as a day of memory
each year throughout the world of Lionism. The "Founders
and Rededication" month traditionally observed in January
is now designated as "Melvin Jones Memorial" month.
Thereafter every year on the Saturday closest to January
13, Lions throughout the world gather at this memorial to
pay tribute to Melvin Jones and to rededicate themselves
to service.
The Melvin Jones Lions International Memorial is a 501(c)
(3) organization. Donations of $100, $250, $500, and
$1000 are suitably recognized on the Wall of Fame in the
Memorial Building. A drive is underway to expand the
existing Melvin Jones Museum into a World Cultural Center
at this Memorial, with donations by the first 1000 individuals
(not clubs) that donate $1000 to the foundation. For

Lions Clubs International
Foundation (LCIF) was
founded in 1968 to take the
mission of Lions Clubs
International to new heights
by tackling global problems,
as well as assisting Lions
with large-scale
humanitarian projects. LCIF’s history is filled with high-impact projects, meaningful
partnerships and the kindness and efforts of Lions. With
continued support, you can count on LCIF to continue and
expand programs to improved lives around the world far into
the future.
The vast majority of grant funding is made possible by
donations from Lions Clubs and individual members
worldwide. LCIF does not receive any portion of Lions
membership dues. Gifts from foundations, corporations,
governments, non-Lions and interest earned on investments
also provide funding.
