Real Life WisdIf you want real political power,

    the truth for a change.

So ar so good, as ar as the weather is soundingor Saturdays first-round playoff game or the Glasgowgridders as they host Huntley Project: temps around 50and a possible wind out o the southeast at 5 to 9 mph.O course, its just Wednesday, so that could change asthe big day arrives. Te Red Devils, coming out o thattough District 3B, earned the S outhern Wildcard berth.

Kickoff is set or 1:00, but you may want to getthere early or the Scotty Booster Clubs tailgate partyeaturing all-you-can-eat chili! Gates open at 11:30.

Reds Monday Night Football Winners It wasnt pretty, but the Seattle Seahawks escaped St.Louis with a 14-9 win over the Rams this past Mondaynight. Its not always going to be pretty, said Seahawkscornerback Richard Sherman, You have to be able to winugly. Te Seahawks are now 7-1 while the Rams droppedto 3-5. Te outcome capped a lousy night or St. Louissports ans. Te Cardinals lost 3-1 to the Boston Red Soxin Game 5 o the World Series, played just up the street at

Busch Stadium. But the outcome rom the Edward Jones Dome wasokay or Janice Dix and Joe Vanderwoude who won $50each in the Glasgow Reds Monday Night Football books. Next Monday night eatures an NFC North rival clashbetween Chicago and Green Bay on Lambeau Field. TePackers sit atop the standings at 5-2 with Detroit 2nd at5-3 (and what a stunning win over the Cowboys Sunday!)while the Bears are right there in the hunt at 4-3. TeVikings, meanwhile, ell to 1-6, their only victor y comingin London over the Steelers who are also stinking it upthis season. A little more baseball, the Red Sox could wrap up theWorld Series at home tonight as Game 6 gets underwayat the 101-year-old Fenway Park which has not seen aWorld Series-clinching win by the home team since 1918.Helen McGonagle, 97, who was just two years old whenthe Sox last clinched a World Series title at home, will bewatching.

I make sure I dont miss it, she told USA TODAYSportson uesday. I I all asleep, I get up on time to seethe ending. Im so excited I c ant even sleep. And i the Sox cant get it done tonight (game time5:30 on FOX), they host Game 7 Tursday night.

How ofen has the doorbell rung ora child interrupted you while you werecooking, causing you to orget about thechicken you lef sizzling on the stove until smoke filled the house? Tat charred pan in the kitchen canbe the last situation a amily aces beoresuffering a devastating house fire.

Te American Red Cross respondsto thousands o fires in peoples homesevery year and most o those fires occurwhile someone is cooking. Te ocuso this years fire prevention campaignearlier this month was Prevent KitchenFires, thus the reason or the NashuaVolunteer Fire Department distributingree kitchen fire extinguishers at theirannual Pig Roast & Dance Fund-raiser. Te Montana Red Cross is offeringtips or staying sae in the kitchen. Montana Red Cross respondedto 82 home fires around the state lastyear. We see firsthand the destruction acooking fire can cause, said Rod Kopp,CEO o Montana Red Cross. Yet mosto these fires can be prevented. We urgeeveryone to ollow our saety tips whenthey are preparing meals at home.

KEEP AN EYE ON WHAT YOU FRY The cook should not wear loose clothingor dangling sleeves while cooking. They

should also stay in the kitchen and neverleave cooking food unattended. If they mustleave the kitchen, for even a short period oftime, they should turn off the stove. Other ways to avoid cooking fresinclude:

Fires can start when the heat is too high. When frying food, if the cook sees smokeor the grease starts to boil, turn the burneroff.

Kid-free zone Keep children and petsat least three feet away from the stove.

Clean and clear the area around the stovebefore turning on the heat.

Turn pot handles to the back of the stoveso no one bumps them or pulls them over.

Move things that can burn away fromthe stove combustible items such asdishtowels, bags, boxes, paper and

curtains. Keep a pan lid or a cookie sheet nearby.

Use it to cover the pan if it catches on re.

This will put out the re.

THE PAN IS ON FIRE If the pan catches re, dont move it.

Slide a pan lid or cookie sheet on top of thepan to take the air away and put the re out.Turn off the heat. Keep the lid on the panuntil it cools. Never try to stop a grease oroil fre with water it will only make the re

    bigger.

    OVEN, MICROWAVE FIRES

If something catches re in the oven, keep the door closed. Call 9-1-1 so reghters

can make sure the re didnt spread to thewalls. If a re occurs in the microwave, keepthe door closed and unplug the microwaveif you can. Dont use it until a repairman

    checks it.

STOP, DROP AND ROLL If a re occurs and someones clothesare on re, they should stop where they are

immediately, drop to the oor, cover theirface with their hands and roll over and overto suffocate the ames. Keep doing it untilthe re is out.

JUST GET OUT Leave the home and call the re

department from outside. Make sureeveryone in the home gets out fast. Once

outside, stay out. Never go back inside aburning building.

Firefighters would like to be inyour kitchen, but only when youinvite them for dinner!

You can help people affected byhome fires, as well as countless otherdisasters at home and around theworld, by making a donation to supportAmerican Red Cross Disaster Relie.Your gif enables the Red Cross to prepare
