Commitment Sunday is coming up in November. We will begin the budgeting process for next

year starting this month. Your pledges are vital to this process and determining what our budgets

will be for the many missions, ministries and church needs.

Pastor Ted, Valerie and Abby will be traveling to the Holy Land in late October. During their

absences, we will have two guest preachers.

Charge conference is November 4th at 7:00PM here in our sanctuary. It will included 5 other

churches from our area.

Kilgus House Study Group

Pastor Ted and the Trustees, have designated a sub-committee for a study of the Kilgus House. The

Kilgus House is in need of repair. The committee will evaluate various options and their associated

Faces around CUMC

Meet Stephen Ulrich, Jr.

The man behind the guitar at 9:01.

Steve has grown up in this church, served in

many capacities, and has been playing and sing-

ing in the 9:01 Praise Band for several years. He

also helps with youth on Wednesday evenings.

Steve is our 9:01 worship team lead and we are

so blessed by his talents. Steve has a way of mak-

ing us feel at ease in worship and his energy and

passion for leading are quite evident; whether

belting out “I Will Wait” by Mumford and Sons, or

the soulful invitational song, “O Come to the

Altar”. He could easily stand in as the 3rd

brother

in the Christian music group, NEEDTOBREATHE!

When not working at Greenwell Plumbing, he and

his wife Kendra love all things family with their

kids, Marin, Evelyn and Stella. Some of their

favorite activities include watching superhero

movies, weekend trips, camping, hiking, going to

outdoor concerts and festivals, and being lazy on

the couch to ensure no one steals the furniture.

Steve and Kendra are in the Servants Sunday

School Class and live in Pewee Valley.

Communion Team

Are you looking for a way to serve your church? We need

people to help serving communion on Communion Sundays.

Every first Sunday of each month and during holiday services

we offer communion to all. You will be a blessing to those

you offer the Body and Blood of Christ. If you would like to

help, please contact Cindy Kircher-Homer at 439-2328, email

us at [email protected] or sign up using the

sign-up sheet in the sanctuary lobby.

Sewing Ministry

The United Methodist Women’s sewing ministry has been busy working on their baby and chil-

dren’s quilts for Kosair. We learned a new quilt pattern, Streak of Lightening, which is very dra-

matic. So far this year we have completed 16 baby /children's quilts. We meet on Wednesday at

the Kilgus House. We always welcome anyone interested in our sewing to join us.

Mountain Mission

Triple L—Senior Adult Ministries

Thank you to the members of our congregation for your faithful support of Kentucky United Meth-

odist Mountain Mission in eastern Kentucky. Over 900 churches in Kentucky, Tennessee,

Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois donate clean, usable appliances and furniture as well as

clean clothing and shoes for men, women and children. Your donations are sent to the 9 retail

stores in eastern Kentucky and sold at affordable prices. The stores provide employment in their

towns.

Donations can be made at the church during office hours. Please place donations in cardboard

boxes, if possible, so the drivers who pick up here can easily stack them in their trucks. Please

stop by the church office for a key to the storage room located on the side of the Kilgus house.

Good Food! Wonderful Fellowship! Great Fun!

Senior Adults enjoyed an afternoon of fellowship and good food at the Doolittle Farm of Mike

and Joy Tabler. A beautiful afternoon and good friends provided the perfect combination for an

end-of-summer picnic.

New Members of CUMC

On August 18, at the 11 o’clock worship service, Kelly and Jeff Moody officially became members

of our church. They live in the Lake Forest subdivision and have two children, CJ and Lucy. They

moved to Louisville in 2014 from Apex, North Carolina and both Jeff and Kelly work at Vogt Power

International. Kelly is in the Engineering department and Jeff is in Supply Management. Fifth

grader CJ and fourth grader Lucy attend Christian Academy of Louisville. CJ enjoys playing base-

ball, basketball, the piano and is in the Cub Scouts at CUMC. Lucy takes dance, performing arts

and is currently working on learning to play the guitar. When the Moody’s are not at practice,

games or traveling to visit family, they enjoy camping and visiting Kentucky’s wonderful State

Parks. They are quick to state that they have found CUMC to be a very inviting and friendly

church. Jeff credits one of his biggest influences of faith came about from attending a strong

United Methodist Church youth group during his years in middle and high schools. The Moodys

see the same opportunities for CJ and Lucy at CUMC. Please take some time to welcome the

Moody family into our church.
