K I D S ’ C O R N E R THE ST. JUDE BELLS Our church bells were blessed this past weekend, November 9. Here are some things to know about the St. Jude bells:
How many bells are there? We have three bells.
What are the bells made of? The striker bell is cast bronze. The other two bells are part of the digital carillon system that offer the ability to play hymns.
How big are the bells? The largest bell is 37 in. The two smaller bells are 28 in. in size.
How much does the large bell weigh? 990 lbs
Who made the bells? The Verdin Company located in Cincinnati, Ohio.
How were the bells delivered and attached? The bells came in two shipments. Before the top tier of the bell tower was lifted onto the base of the tower the bell company came to install the bells. They used a lift to bring the bells to the support beam to attach them.
How do the bells ring? The large bell uses a striker and the other bells use the digital carillon system. The carillon bells system are recorded tones of actual cast bronze bells, allowing to us to hear many familiar hymns of faith.
When can we hear the bells ring? You will hear the bells strike on the hour of each day from 8 am – 9 pm. They will play 5 minutes before Mass each day. In addition they will play the Angelus at Noon and play for weddings and funerals as requested. There are many occasion in the coming weeks that they will play. Keep your ears open for the beautiful sounds.
