Pathfinders and Master’s Toolbox
Making a Difference In November 2018, our team of 16 finished the Royal Rangers Training Center outside Nairobi, Kenya, just in time for the first group of 31 boys to arrive that weekend. Before heading back home, we scheduled a safari.
As we returned to our camp that afternoon, we drove past a church. The sign above the door read “Mara Revival Center Assemblies of God,” and there was music coming from inside. Entering the church, a sense of familiarity came over some of the team.
Visiting with the pastor and his wife, we learned this church had been built by a Royal Ranger Pathfinder team 20 years earlier. Three of our guys had been part of that team. What an opportunity to hear what God had done with the investment made two decades ago!
We further learned that in the evenings, when the day’s work was finished, some local boys would come by and the Pathfinder men would play soccer with them. The pastor had been one of those boys! Pastor William Ole Mainka, that boy from 20 years ago, is not only the pastor of the church but is now the assistant general superintendent of Kenya! A boy that was reached during this church planting effort is now the number two leader in all of Kenya!
When Mara Revival Center was built, it was the only church within 130 km. Today there are 127 churches in the district! Thousands of people now go to church because of that one initial church plant.
The Kenya officials are praying to grow to 150 churches in the next four years. What Pathfinders had a part in starting 20 years earlier is one of the projects we want to take to the next level. Be a part through Pathfinders and Master’s Toolbox.
