World Mission SundayToday, with Christians all around the world, we join in the Church’s observance of World Mission Sunday.We call to mind two saints who are the patrons of the missionary activity of the Church.The first saint is Francis Xavier, a Spanish Jesuit who proclaimed the Gospel in India and Japan and nearly reached the shores of China before his death in 1552. The second saint is Therese of Lisieux, a French Carmelite who lived a cloistered life until her death in 1897.The example of St. Francis Xavier reminds us to pray for those who have left their families and their native lands in order to bring the Gospel to those who have never heard the Good News of Jesus Christ. The example of St. Therese reminds us of the tremendous power of the prayers we offer which assist and enrich the missionary activity of the Church.Today we pray for the continued flourishing of every effort to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ to people of every land and nation in our world.
Domingo Mundial de las Misiones
Hoy, con cristianos alrededor de todo el mundo, nos unimos a la observancia de la Iglesia del Domingo Mundial de las Misiones. Recordamos a dos santos patrones de la actividad misionera de la Iglesia.
El primer santo es San Francisco Xavier, un jesuíta español que proclamó el Evangelio en India y Japón y casi se acercó a la costa de China antes de su muerte en 1552.La segunda es Santa Teresita del Niño Jesús, una carmelita francesa que vivió en el convento hasta su muerte en 1897.
El ejemplo de San Francisco Xavier nos recuerda a rezar por los que han dejado a sus familias y sus tierras nativas para llevar el Evangelio a los
que nunca han escuchado la Buena Nueva de Jesucristo.
El ejemplo de Santa Teresita nos recuerda del poder inmenso de la oración que ofrecemos para asistir y enriquecer la actividad misionera de la Iglesia.
Hoy, rezamos para que cada labor de llevar la Buena Nueva de Jesucristo siga en aumento y llegue a la gente de todos los pueblos y naciones de nuestro mundo.

It is not always convenient to be a good steward, especially when all the temptations of our busy and materialistic world get in the way. Now add our own pride and ego into the equation and living a stewardship lifestyle may be downright uncomfortable! Remember, God didn’t call us to be comfortable. He called us to be faithful.

The feast of St. Pope John Paul II is October 22. St. Pope John Paul II had a strong devotion to the rosary and in 2002 added the luminous mysteries. The luminous mysteries are prayed on Thursdays, and focus on the Baptism of the Lord, the Wedding at Cana, the Proclamation of the Kingdom, the Transfiguration and the Institution of the Eucharist.

If someone or something creates concern or is suspicious, call 911 - the Fairfax County Police/Emergency Response. Calls may be made from landlines throughout the building or from individual cell phones. In any situation, personal safety is primary.
