Our AgencySince 1967, Orange Children & Parents Together,Inc. has grown from a small classroom in a church basement to an independent nonprofit organization with six child development centers that serve 500 children and their families annually.
Our hope is that every child has the foundation needed to grow, learn, thrive and achieve. We are dedicated to helping young children reach for the stars and realize their full potential. Because each child’s ability to learn and achieve varies, we provide caring, high-quality learning environments and family support to effectively develop a child’s unique abilities and equip them for elementary school success.
Our MissionOrange Children & Parents Together is committed to providing family-friendly, community-based programs that enhance children’s growth, strengthen families and build healthy communities.
Our VisionWe believe that all children should have theopportunity to succeed in school and in life. By providing high-quality school readiness and family support programs to the most vulnerable children in our community, we ensure that all children begin school healthy and ready to learn.
Our ProgramsFounded in 1967 as one of the first Head Start preschool programs in Orange County, Orange Children & Parents Together (OCPT) has made a lasting impact on the lives of thousands of children and their families through our high-quality programs.
School ReadinessWe begin preparing children for kindergarten from the first day they enter one of our preschool classrooms. Our teaching staff uses Creative Curriculum which has been designed to build children’s skills specifically in
the areas of cognitive development, language and literacy, social-emotional development, and physical development. Throughout the year, our teachers conduct home visits and meet with parents to discuss how each child’s skills are progressing. We fully engage parents in the process, as their support and understanding play key roles in their children’s success.
Health & NutritionHealth and nutrition are vital components of each child’s educational success. Children in our programs receive early intervention health screenings and participate in a daily health program that includes dental care and nutritious meals and snacks. We also provide parent education workshops on health, nutrition, and child wellness care to help build strong health habits at home.
Family SupportIt has been said that it takes a village to raise a child. OCPT works closely with numerous community agencies to provide comprehensive multidisciplinary programs and services to meet the needs of our children and families. Our comprehensive child and family development programs empower families, and each child leaves healthy and ready to learn upon entering kindergarten.
Our programs are designed to respect and honor parents and families as the primary educators of their children. OCPT improves family well-being by providing thoughtful guidance and helpful resources in a safe environment where children and families can come together to learn, grow and connect.
Literacy ProgramsAt OCPT, we believe that strong reading skills set the foundation for all future learning. In our classrooms, every learning activity encompasses a component of literacy and language
development. We encourage parents to read with their children at home. Each child takes home a Raising a Reader book bag containing age-appropriate books so that parents can read with their children every day for one week. Several times a year, thanks to Reading is Fundamental, our children receive free, new books to keep and enjoy.
Cavity-Free Campaign
Late in September 2009, OCPT launched the second annual Cavity-Free Campaign. Aimed at promoting dental health, the campaign once again was assisted by our favorite superhero,Super Tooth. Within six months of the campaign, all 480children enrolled in our program had visited the dentist, received follow-up on treatment when necessary, and were cavity-free!
Ready, Set, Read!
On May 21, 2010, the Orange Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Orange, sponsored a wonderful event that highlighted the work of OCPT. Along with community supporters and sponsors, they made it possible for all 480 children to receive free backpacks filled with school supplies and free t-shirts. We thank them for their support!
Already in its third year of implementation, the Healthy Beginnings program focuses on growing up healthy through physical activity and nutrition. Our goal is to prevent obesity in children, paying special attention to those children in our program identified as overweight. The program included nutrition workshops for parents, food experience classes for children, onsite
exercise programs with trained volunteers, and the opportunity to continue the program with take-homeexercise bags. This year, the program successfully utilized Nutrition and Kinesiology students from Cal Poly Pomona and California State University, Fullerton. Our interns volunteered a total 989 hours during the program year! Thank you all!
