2013 EASTER CARNIVAL HIGHLIGHTS
The 138th Easter Racing Carnival was another excit-
ing chapter in Oakbank’s history. Easter Saturday rose in popularity again with 35,660 in attendance.
Ken Sweeney’s ‘Riziz’ kicked off his Autumn cam-
paign winning the feature flat race of the carnival -
the (listed) Oakbank Stakes 1100m ($80,000). The feature jumping event, the von Doussa Steeple-chase 3250m ($100,000) was taken out by the Payne trained ‘Lord of the Song’ and ridden by
leading jumps rider Steven Patemen.
Easter Monday saw 31,338 racegoers witness thrilling racing. Victorian ‘Gotta Take Care’ took out the
feature hurdle race - the Yalumba Classic Hurdle 3600m ($100,000) while ‘Tommy Two’ trained by Jim Smith timed his run to perfection, storming home to
take out the Onkaparinga Cup 2150m ($50,000). Leading jumps trainer Ciaron Maher won the Great Eastern Steeplechase 4950m ($166,000) with ‘Man of Class’ backing up from his second in the von
Doussa Steeplechase, beating previous winner
‘Tobouggie Nights’ by 1 1/2 lengths. Steven Pate-
man (jumps) and Jamie Kah (flat) took out leading
rider awards for the Carnival.
The 2013 Oakbank Fashion at the Races heat held on Easter Monday was a dazzling display of colour
and stylish Autumn race-wear. Over 50 fashion sav-
vy entrants (male & female) registered to grace the
catwalk for their chance to win a host of great priz-
es and a shot at the overall state prize - a new car.
For those who missed it on the day—the winner of
the Oakbank heat was Lisa Wellings of NSW. Wow-ing the judges in a red peplum detailed jacket and
matching pencil skirt, Lisa wore a Liza Stedman
headpiece and accessorised with Christian
Louboutin black shoes and a vintage handbag. Alt-
hough she went on to compete at the Fashion at
the Races state final, Lisa was not successful in her
bid to drive away in a brand new Mini Ray.
Congratulations to Lisa and all of those who took
part in the 2013 Oakbank Fashion at the Races. We
look forward to welcoming fashion forward racego-
ers at next year’s Fashion at the Races competition
to be held on Easter Monday - 21st April 2014. The
winner of the 2014 Oakbank Fashion at the races
will compete for the ultimate prize - a trip to Paris! Winner - Lisa Wellings (dressed in red - below / right)
