7 th September 2018 Dear Parents/Carers, I could not have been prouder of the students of Nyngan Public School than I have been this week. On Tuesday Nyngan Public School hosted an Indigenous Dance Workshop run by Outback Arts. This involved an additional 58 students from a variety of schools. All students combined at morning tea and lunch to share the playground. Students from very small schools enjoyed the opportunity to play with a large group of students. Yesterday 45 students from Nyngan Public School performed for the Mitchell Network Principals Conference. Again I beamed with pride. Congratulations to all involved in preparing the students. Their performance is a credit to you. Our Knitting mums and nans had a lovely knitting class on Wednesday with students very enthusiastic to return from 1 week to another. Our gardeners have been harvesting cauliflowers and radish to take home and share with family. I would like to thank Katie White from Community Hub who has visited NPS this week and shared healthy lunch box options with students. I am guessing students may be requesting additional items on the shopping list as they have enjoyed cooking / making them for themselves. Book Week celebrations today were exhausting! Thank you to family who joined in the classroom book study. Keep eyes out in the newsletter for news regarding staff play nominations for the next Logies awards night! I hope that you all visited Mr Burt at IGA today and enjoyed a BBQ. Thank you to IGA for supporting our fundraising efforts today. Dear Parents/Carers,

I could not have been prouder of the students of Nyngan Public School than I have been this

week. On Tuesday Nyngan Public School hosted an Indigenous Dance Workshop run by

Outback Arts. This involved an additional 58 students from a variety of schools. All students

combined at morning tea and lunch to share the playground. Students from very small schools

enjoyed the opportunity to play with a large group of students.

Yesterday 45 students from Nyngan Public School performed for the Mitchell Network

Principals Conference. Again I beamed with pride. Congratulations to all involved in

preparing the students. Their performance is a credit to you.

Our Knitting mums and nans had a lovely knitting class on Wednesday with students very

enthusiastic to return from 1 week to another. Our gardeners have been harvesting

cauliflowers and radish to take home and share with family.

I would like to thank Katie White from Community Hub who has visited NPS this week and

shared healthy lunch box options with students. I am guessing students may be requesting

additional items on the shopping list as they have enjoyed cooking / making them for

themselves.

Book Week celebrations today were exhausting! Thank you to family who joined in the

classroom book study. Keep eyes out in the newsletter for news regarding staff play

nominations for the next Logies awards night!

I hope that you all visited Mr Burt at IGA today and enjoyed a BBQ. Thank you to IGA for

supporting our fundraising efforts today. All money raised will be donated to Camp Quality

when they visit Nyngan PS for breakfast on the 26th

of October. Set your alarm clocks – you

are all invited for breakfast!

GOOD FOOD WORKSHOP

The Community Hub has been visiting years 3-6 this

week to run the “Good Food Workshop”. The Good

Food workshop teaches the students about the 5 food

groups, the importance of a healthy balanced diet and

how eating healthy foods can benefit our bodies. As a

part of the workshop the students got to make their own

healthy foods such as fruit kebabs, banana and

blueberry smoothies and healthy popcorn. The recipes

are cheap and easy to make at home. Thank you to

Katie for conducting this workshop to educate our

students on a healthier lifestyle.

Wellbeing

FRIENDLY ACTIONS- OVAL As part of the school continued implementation of PBL, our students, across all classes, have been involved in lessons about the expected behaviours within different contexts of our school. This week our focus has been – THE OVAL –friendly actions on the Oval. In Wednesday’s lesson, students discussed what is expected of them when they are on the oval. Such as: · You can only play on the oval if you have a hat on your head. · One up, one down, this is where we play with students in the grade one up or one down, or your grade. · The only place to kick a ball is on the oval. · Following our three key values – safety, respect and cooperation. We encourage you to have a conversation with your children at home about the week’s focus. Question the right behaviour and ask them about this week’s lesson to promote a home to school connection of information.

It’s important to recognise that social and emotional skills develop over time, and that they may develop differently for different children. Parents and carers and schools working together to help children develop social and emotional skills can really make a positive difference for children’s mental health.

Key points

Get involved – find out about the social and emotional learning program your child’s school is using. Learn the language and basics and look for opportunities to apply them at home.

Talk about feelings – help children explore theirs.

Be a model – use the skills yourself and show children how they work. Parents and carers don’t have to be perfect; showing them you can make a mistake and learn from it can be really helpful too.

Be a guide – turn difficulties into learning opportunities.

Acknowledge and appreciate – provide explicit feedback and praise.
