Although the process is slower than expected, we are still very excited about the fast internet speed possible by optical fiber for our area.

The fibre providers require an uptake of 50% of the residents to install fibre in Vredekloof. To date, 33% of residents already completed the non-binding survey on the Vredekloof fibre website.

Please join them and complete the survey online or get a copy at the Control Room.

We have a couple of scheduled meetings with the fibre providers, so we anticipate to have the ISP packages within the next 2 weeks.

Mar 2015 (1): Burglary Residential - We have previously reported on the case of Burglary and Discharge of a Firearm in Wessel Lourens Drive. The case is still under investigation.

Apr 2015 (1): Poging tot Diefstal van M/V - Die inwoner het ongeveer 05h30 by die huis gekom (Kremetart) en toe sy later weer wou ry, was die motor ‘n paar meter vêrder in die straat geparkeer. Die booswigte was moontlik gesteur en het vertrek.

Aug 2015 (2): Theft out of or from a M/V - Two mag rims were stolen from a vehicle in Maple. The owner woke up when the car fell off the Jack. They heard a vehicle drive away but could not give any description. We have worked through the video footage and a number of vehicles were identified as possible suspects. We also received an alert of a Silver BMW with the reg. nr. as suspects linked to theft of mag rims. We searched the plate and could identify the vehicle on our cameras. All footage were handed to the investigating officer and two suspects were arrested and the vehicle impounded. They are still detained at Pollsmoor with bail denied.

Diefstal van M/V - ‘n Nissan Champ bakkie is gesteel in Bauhinia. Die insident het plaasgevind op Saterdagaand om ongeveer 19h20. Die voertuig was weer die vol-gende oggend gevind, verlate in Ou Paarlweg. Die ondersoek duur voort.

General Theft (6):

Two municipal bins went missing and one of them were "accidentally" taken by the wood sellers.

A scooter’s side mirror went missing.

A radiator was taken from a residents property by people doing “rubble remov-al”. We found the culprits but the resident decided not to pursue the matter.

Animal By-Law For good neighbourliness, all animal and pet owners should have a good look at the ani-mal By-Law. It is available on the City’s website and also on the Vredekloof website. Here are a few excerpts which will provide some guidance:

Restriction on number of dogs 2. (1) Council may determine the number of dogs that may be kept on any premises. (2) no person may keep more than – (a) two dogs, or allow more than two dogs, over the age of six months, to be kept in or at a dwelling unit; (b) three dogs, or allow more than three dogs, over the age of six months, to be kept in or at a dwelling house; (c) four dogs, or allow more than four dogs, over the age of six months, to be kept in or at a large dwelling house;

Dog Registration and Licensing 3.(1) The owner of a property where one or more dogs are kept must register the dog or dogs with the Council. (2) Dog registration must take place within four months of the dog’s birth or within 30 days of acquiring a dog on property within Council’s jurisdictional boundaries.

Prohibitions relating to the keeping of dogs 6. No person shall - (a) permit any bitch on heat owned or kept by him or her to be in any public street or public place. (b) urge any dog to attack, worry or frighten any person or animal or through negli-gence fail to prevent any dog from attacking, worrying or frightening any person or animal, except where necessary for the defence of such first- mentioned person or his or her property or of any other person; (c) keep any dog which causes damage to public property; (d) keep any dog the faeces of which he or she fails to remove regularly and dispose of suitably; (e) keep any dog which barks, yelps, howls or whines for more than six accumulated minutes in an hour or more than three accumulated minutes in an half hour;

Complaints " .... my little dog was at-tacked by a bull-terrier ....." We receive more and more complaints regarding dogs that are not on a leash, dogs that are barking and even cats that are a nuisance.

The key is maybe to be more considerate towards your fellowman.

Animal By-Law continue …. (g) keep any dog which causes a nuisance to inhabitants of the neighbourhood (h) permit any dog owned or kept by him or her - (iv) to constitute or to his or her knowledge be likely to constitute a source of danger or injury to any person outside the premises; (v) to be in any public street or public place except on a leash and under control un-less the dog is in an area designated as a free running area; (i) keep any dog which does not have on its collar or micro-chip a name, telephone number and physical address (j) provoke, harass or tease any dog.

Dog shall not be a source of danger 10. (1) Any person who keeps a dog on any premises shall keep such dog in such a manner as not to be a source of danger.

Removal of excrement 11. (1) If any dog defecates in any public street, public place or public road, any person in control of such dog, excluding a person assisted by a guide dog, shall forthwith remove the excrement, place it in a plastic or paper bag or wrapper and dispose of it in a receptacle provided for the deposit of litter or refuse, excluding a person who is assisted by a guide dog. (2) No person shall walk a dog, other than a guide dog, in a public street, public

place or public road, without carrying a sufficient number of plastic or paper bags or wrappers, within which to place the excrement of the dog, in the event of the dog defecating.

Restriction on number of cats 14. (2)(a) four cats, or allow more than four cats, over the age of six months; (6) No person shall keep any cat which does not have on its collar or micro-chip a name, telephone number and physical address or reference to a society for the pre-vention of cruelty to animals or registered animal welfare organization Council's powers to sterilize cats 15. (1) No person shall keep a cat over the age of 6 months, other than a steri-lized cat, (2) An authorised official may cause a cat to be sterilized should he or she deem it necessary, or on the request of the owner and the costs thereof may be recovered from the owner. (4) The owner of a sterilized cat must obtain from a registered veterinarian proof that the cat has been sterilized and must produce such document for inspection to any authorised official on demand.

We encourage residents to report anything suspicious to the Control Room. Don’t assume that your dogs or the neighbours dogs are barking for noth-ing. Let the security rather investigate why they are actually barking.
