Well done Hitherfield

Architecture Workshops were a huge successThe Bridges, Maths and Design Sessions run by Architecture Workshops were a huge success last Friday.Year 6 classes got into teams of four and had to use their mathematical, design and collaborative skills to construct their own bridge structures. Children applied their knowledge of mathematical shapes and their ability to problem solve with their research on different bridge constructions they had learned during topic. For Me - The Childline AppChild-friendly features:The Photo sharing social media app gives children the opportunity to explore the world of social networking in a safe environment. As the main aim of the app is to teach preteens the etiquette of interacting online, it has constant reminders to keep things positive like the comment box that directs users to ‘ leave a nice comment’. The app also picks users who have modelled good behaviour to be ambassadors to other Kudos users.

Safety features:All accounts require a parent or carer to provide email authentication and approval. No friends can be added until a parent approves the account.Geo-targetting is not offered so images will not share your child’s location.Photos are monitored to make sure they’re not inappropriate and all the likes made on photos are anonymous.

SAFE INTERNET USEThis week included Safer Internet Day and the Year 1 to 6 children looked at safe on line identities in their assemblies and classes. We discussed what an on line identity is and how to ensure you do not give out information that could be used by others. We also discussed the impact of saying negative things on the internet and how hurtful that can be.It is probably worth everyone in our community remembering that if you are using social media, whether its Facebook, WhatsAPP etc, and even if you believe it is a closed group, posting negative or malicious things can be hurtful, abusive, bullying, victimising and could even end up with the police being informed. As we said to the children, never post something on line that you would not say to someone’s face.

STAY SAFE ONLINE
