A shot of bitters that is. Thanksgiving and Halloween may be over, but fall is a time of heartier meals that often leave us feeling full and sluggish. Bitters promote good digestion and liver health, making them the perfect aperitif to any meal. A teaspoon is all you need, but the taste, as the name implies, is rather bitter so we recommend you mix it with water. Our favourite way to prepare for a big meal is to do a ‘Maria Bomb.’ Recipe below.

Bottoms up!
As the days get shorter and the
nights get longer, it’s tempting to
turn into a couch potato. Avoid this
pitfall, especially when it comes to
dinnertime. Turn the TV o , put your
phones away, and sit down together
as a family for dinner. It may sound like
a scene out of a 1950’s movie, but it is
important to take time to eat together
as a family. According to the National
Center on Addiction and Substance
Abuse at Columbia University (CASA),
children who eat at least ve times
a week with their family are at lower
risk of developing poor eating habits,
weight problems or alcohol and
substance dependencies, and tend to
perform better academically.

Eating local food that’s in season makes a lot of sense, not only can it save you money, but it is more nutritious as well. Instead of going to your grocery store and buying an out-of-season and expensive pineapple in the middle of November, why not search out a local farmer’s market and pick out a squash to make the delicious soup below. When you buy local, the food has ripened when and where it is supposed to, allowing more of the nutrients to remain intact. Whereas when you buy your produce at the grocery store, it tends to have less avour because it loses its avour due to the chilling, shipping and sitting in a warehouse. Eating seasonally doesn’t mean less variety, there are still lots of delicious options to choose from. To nd a local farmer’s market near you, visit www.localharvest.org.
Seasonal Eats
It’s Daylight Savings
Don’t forget to set your clocks back one hour this Sunday.
1. Preheat oven to 450 F.
2. Peel, de-seed, and dice the squash and onion into roughly 1-inch pieces.
3. Place the squash and onion onto a foil-lined baking sheet. Drizzle with olive oil and season with a generous pinch of salt and pepper. Roast in oven for 45-50 minutes until squash is golden and fork-tender.
4. In a large pot, bring the broth to a simmer. Add the roasted veggies. Puree using an immersion blender, regular blender, or food processor.
5. Finish with a drizzle of Flora Optimal Omegas and enjoy!
