CLAIM YOUR ERCOC SUBSIDYTO START YOUR OWN
INBOUND MARKETINGDEPARTMENT
Interest free for 5 yearsThe East Rand Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ERCOC) and their American Inbound Marketing partner HubSpot, has embarked on a job- creation project by subsidising member companies to start their own Inbound or Electronic Marketing Department.
They believe that if a business entity earns more revenue they will obviously have to employ more staff, and due to the fact that the buying process now starts on the internet, it stands to reason that the astute business owners will want to increase their exposure in Cyber space.
Marketing Departments is a luxury that smaller enterprises cannot afford. To employ an Electronic Marketing Consultancy Company, at budgets of in access of R 400,000.00 per annum is in most instances not an option.

12 Reasons why you should Invest
in a Chamber of Commerce
Membership
In some European
countries a Business
Chamber or Chamber of
Commerce and Industry is
subsidised by Government
and membership is
compulsory. In South Africa
this is not the case and
60% of the business
community does not belong
to a Chamber.
It is true that most
Chambers are struggling to
survive financially as
membership and interest is
dwindling. This could be
due to internal politics, no
remuneration for dedicated
staff, as well as low value for membership fees.
However, there are some Chambers or other voluntary business associations which ensure that
their organisation is operating profitably so that the required expertise may be employed at market
related remuneration packages.
The East Rand Chamber of Commerce and Industry is one such a Chamber. Here are twelve
reasons why you should invest in a membership with them.
12 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD INVEST IN A CHAMBER OF COMMERCE MEMBERSHIP
1. INCREASED CREDIBILITY
Association or membership with a Business Chamber definitely projects and creates business
confidence. The age old slogan of its not what you know but who you know is still very relevant.
So if increased credibility will increase sales you should join a Service providing Chamber.
2. BUSINESS PLAN AND BUDGETS
The service provider of the East Rand Chamber, Chamberlink, employs the expertise to provide
members with assistance free of charge in budget forecasts as well as providing professional
assistance in the preparation of your business plans.
-

3. LEGAL COMPLIANCE WITH ALL GOVERNMENT REQUIREMENTS, REGULARITIES
AND LAWS
The exposure and personal risk of business owners in South Africa is extremely high and business
entities should be mindful and aware of OHS Laws as well as Labour laws. BBBEE fronting is a
serious offence and could cost a perpetrator up to R500 000.00 or may result in jail time.
Membership with a professional service providing chamber like the East Rand Chamber will ensure
your legal compliance with all the required acts and laws by presenting you with;
1. Labour relations consultancy and representation at the CCMA and bargaining councils.
2. BBBEE Consultancy and Verification as well as providing you with workable solutions and
documentation when entering black ownership negotiations.
3. OHS Training to minimize exposure of possible claims against management and owners who
remain personally responsible, in their private capacity should negligence be corroborated.
4. CAPABLE OF PROVIDING STAFF TRAINING
Not only do you score points on your BEE certificate when providing in-house training but
productivity also increases as the level of intelligence and efficiency does. The Chamber provides
Chamber member companies and their staff access to 6 Occupational Health and Safety Courses.
Training courses include:
OHS for Management
OHS for Supervisors
Health and Safety Representatives Course
Accident and Incident Investigation Course
Basic Fire fighting Course
First Aid - Level 1
5. SALES LEADS
The buying process has changed from the printed media to the internet and now starts with Google.
If your responsive and modern webpage is not on the first page you will not receive the enquiry.
10 Initial Chamber members will be benefiting from a 90% Chamber of Commerce subsidy on their
very effective Inbound Marketing strategy to assist members in the establishment of an inbound
marketing department.
Please be informed that although we are extending this offer to only 10 members, a regular repeat
of this offer will be made available as soon as the first 10 has been established.
6. HELP WITH DEBTORS CONTROL DUE TO HIGH LEGAL COSTS
We are all aware that access to the magisterial courts in the new South Africa is at its limits, and if
you are seeking judgement against defaulting debtors your claim better be greater than R40,
000.00, or the legal costs will nullify the success in 5 years time.
The Chamber, with the assistance of the well-known Nigel attorneys Kruger and Okes, formed the
East Rand Commercial arbitration board, and if your conditions of sale or purchase include an
arbitration clause you can now, for one tenth of the costs finalise your claim of any amount within a
short a period as three weeks. The finding of this Arbitration board can then be made a judgement of
a court of law and is just as effective and binding as a judgement obtained in normal court.

7. PROFESSIONAL WEBSITE DESIGN
Chamberlink, as the service provider of the East Rand Chamber, employs professional web
designers. As a valued Chamber member you will receive a fully responsive modern website, as it is
included in your normal chamber fees.
All the efforts of inbound marketing, Google add words and pay by click costs will be wasted if your
website is not designed correctly and is not responsive to function properly on all electronic devices.
You will also receive as many email addresses as required as part of your membership
8. EXPOSURE AND ADVERTISING IN ELECTRONIC MEDIA
Each paid-up member of the Chamber receives the opportunity, once a month, to advertise their
company and products in the Chamber bulletin as part of their membership fee. The Chamber
bulletin is sent electronically to all 560 Chamber members as well as 1500 additional subscribers.
The space allocated for each member is one A4 page. The cost of this advertising is R485 per A4
page to non-members. The statistics from our website visitors indicate an additional hit rate of 500
visits over and above the normal email campaign visitors.
9. EXPOSURE ON SOCIAL MEDIA
It is simply a must for every business to be properly presented on all social media today. Not being
visible on social media is like having a shop with frosted glass showroom windows and no door in an
extremely busy mall. All Chamber members that pay for the Inbound Marketing membership
package receive this service as included in the cost of membership.
10. FUNDING AND FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
Venture capital in South Africa is an extremely rare commodity and although the Chamber has no
access to such funds, assistance with applications complete with budgets and forecasts as well as
properly prepared business plans is part of normal membership privileges.
11. REPRESENTATION AT MUNICIPAL AND GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENTS
As an affiliate of the AHI the East Rand Chamber of Commerce is always indirectly involved with
negotiations with government on issues of BBBEE and labour relations.
12. REPRESENTATION AND ASSISTANCE WITH OBTAINING TENDERS FROM
GOVERNMENT AND PRIVATE SECTOR
The Chamber has on numerous occasions successfully accompanied, as well as represented their
members in negotiations of unfair BBBEE claims of non-compliance to especially black ownership
requirements by ESKOM, Rand Water board, Spoornet and many local authorities.

The Real Meaning of
Keywords for your Website
Keywords are probably one of those terms that everybody knows and think they understand, but facts
are that most people you speak to today dont know exactly what it is and have false perception about
the term.
When you speak to people about their online presence and how they can improve most will tell you just
to throw in a bunch of keywords about their product on the site. I use this term loosely as this statement
in itself doesnt mean anything and if you implement on it you might be even worse of.
So what do I mean? Why cant you just add keywords to your site? Why wont it bring in the visitors?
WHAT IS THE REAL MEANING OF KEYWORDS FOR YOUR WEBSITE
Let me answer your questions with another question. What keywords exactly do you want on the site?
Adding keywords to your website will bring you nothing in return partly because there is no effort put
into developing a strategy and just adding for instance your product names a bunch of times will be
counter intuitive.
Google today are looking for value adding websites for its searchers. This means that it wants to
display the best results that it can for its searchers. The days of Google working through your website
and just looking for your keywords are long gone. In fact even for more than 10 years.
-
Christiaan Swanepoel 16Bulletin Blogs
Today Google wants to know what your website pages are about. What is the key concept you want
to convey in the page? What is the dominant theme or message? This means that you should write
your pages so that it makes sense for people to read it and understand what you are trying to say to
them.
Some might be asking: But what about the search results? I want the site to rank better so we should
add in the keywords for Google? Remember, put your audience first. They are the ones that will click
on the link and read your information. Not Google. Yes Google might display your results but if you
have not written your content for your audience then nobody will read your article and bounce off to
the next site.
The best practice is to always keep in mind what your target audience and personas are looking for
online. If you optimise the page and structure your keywords around them then you will already be
optimising correctly for Google as well.
5 KEYWORD TIPS TO REMEMBER
Write content for people and not for search engines.
Dont include your keywords more than 5 times as this is seen as keyword spamming.
Focus on long keyword phrases and not short keywords (car, red car etc.)
Write about a topic and not a certain keyword for it to be understood by people. Your topics
should be a long tail keyword.
Focus on keywords that your audience are looking for more information on.
Google has grown into a much smarter search engine than from its beginning. It analyses your
content to display for people and to give them the correct information that they were looking for.

Trade and Industry
REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA
Sector Charter Councils have until 15 November 2015 to submit aligned Sector
Codes for approval to Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davies.
All existing Sector Codes that have not submitted application for approval to the
Minister to be aligned with Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Codes of
Good Practise will be repealed.
Once sector codes are repealed, entities operating sectors will use the Amended B-
BBEE Codes of Good Practice for measurement.
The background to this action by Minister Davies is that on 15 May 2015, all the
existing Sector Codes which were not aligned to the Amended Broad Based Black
Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) Codes of Good Practice were given further
extension to complete the alignment process by 30 October 2015. The extension was
given through a Notice. Government Gazette Number 38799, which further stated
that a consideration shall be made to repeating those sector codes that are not
aligned and ready for gazetting by 30 October 2015.
