Who we are

• University-based student group

•Our Mission:

“Promote energy awareness in the University community and to

explore solutions that meet society's energy requirements. These

solutions could include new economic, technological and

sociological mechanisms that align global energy demand with our

generation capability.”

Why we are here

• Reviewed administration's definition of and position on “Peak Oil”

• Peak Oil:

“The point in time when the maximum rate of

global petroleum production is reached”

• Discuss Peak Oil, and it’s influence on municipal operations for the

City of Edmonton.

City of Edmonton Forecasts

• What we liked:

• Consideration of Oil Prices influence on municipal operations

• LEED Silver requirement for new City of Edmonton buildings

• $30 million Energy Management Revolving Fund

• Development of a Sustainable Fleet strategy

• City recognized that an increase in energy prices could erode

the standard of living of some Edmontonians, and that these

price increases could cause a shift to alternative energy

sources.

demand outstripped supply.

• Oil production has exceeded global oil discoveries since 1984

•Canada and The United States are the highest per capita energy users

•China and India have drastically increased their demand for energy,
