Following the completion of Phase one and the handover of the new Derby and Rathbone Halls in September, Phase two of the project commenced with the demolition of the old Gladstone and Roscoe Halls, and the continuing refurbishment of the existing Derby Old Court and Greenbank House. The phase two new build commenced with the removal of asbestos containing materials from the old residences prior to the demolition of the buildings themselves. In November, work commenced on the piled foundations and will be followed by the commencement of the main concrete frame of the building This will take approximately 40 weeks. The refurbishment of the final section of Derby Old Court has also begun. This includes the strip out of internal fixtures and fittings which will be replaced by a new internal layout with modern interior it out and new roof coverings. New traditional style windows and doors to will compliment the original 1930’s building. These works will match those that have already been completed as part of Phase one of the Derby Old Court project. The renovation of the Grade II* listed building, Greenbank House, will continue throughout Phase two of the project as we work with conservationists to bring the house back to its former glory. The new Derby and Rathbone Halls, and Annex were handed over to the

University on 15th September, prior to the arrival of the new students. The build

took just three years to complete, commencing in September 2014.

The halls now consist of a reception/ hub area with televisions, pool tables and

seating areas, staff kitchen and office areas, library, launderette, fully equipped

gym, exercise studios and changing facilities, all weather sports pitches, outside

seating areas and bike storage areas. This is all in addition to student bedrooms,

kitchens and studio apartments, all of which can be used by the students housed

at Greenbank Student Village.

Programme of works The overall construction of Greenbank Student Village will take just under

five years to complete, with the handover of the final buildings planned for

September 2019.

Phase one has now been completed and handed over and Phase 2 has

begun.

Considerate constructor’s scheme An independent scheme continues to monitor our construction site using the Code of Considerate Practice. The scheme has been designed to encourage best practice and improve the image of construction.

There areas we are monitored on are: We have recently been working with the University’s School of Architects

who have made a number of visits to the site attending tutorials and using

the scheme to support their curriculum and provide a practical way of

learning.

We continue to work with our environmental and ecology consultants

ensuring our environmental and sustainability responsibilities are met for the

site.
