Brushstrokes!
Grief Support Group – Enduring the Holidays
Have you recently lost someone you loved? Are you struggling to get through the pain of
their death? The holidays can be a very difficult time for many people to endure after the
death of someone they love. Many have stated that they wish they could go to sleep
around Thanksgiving and wake up again after the New Year has begun. We know that the
holidays can be very rough and that is why we are offering a 2-hour event to help support
you this holiday season so that you can “Endure the Holidays.”
This program features biblical, Christ-centered
teaching that focuses on grief topics connected
with the death of a loved one. It is a DVD seminar
which features nationally respected grief experts
and real-life stories of people, followed by a
confidential small group discussion about what
was viewed and people’s personal experiences
with grief and loss.
Past participants have expressed how this group has helped them to go through the
healing process from this very difficult time in their life. You will find encouragement,
comfort and help in grieving the death of your loved one. No matter what the cause of
their death was, this group is a chance to be around people who can relate to you and
what you are feeling or experiencing.
We will be offering this twice, so if you can’t make it to one, hopefully you will be able to
join us for the other one. Those dates and times are: November 14th
from 6:30-8:30 pm
OR November 18th
from 9:00 am -11:00 am.
There is no charge for this event. All we ask is that you register by November 11th
so that
we can adequately prepare for the number of people who will be attending. To register
or if you have any questions, please contact me at Red Brush Christian Church 618-665-
3280 or on the confidential counseling line at 618-665-3050. Or you can e-mail me at
We hope that you will join us for the upcoming “Enduring the Holidays” Grief Support
Group.
Blessings,
Becky

Dec. 11 Children’s Christmas Program
Each year at Christmas, we try to do some kind of Christmas outreach to help
families in need. This year, there are several families with small children right here
in our own church family that we would like to lend a helping hand to.
We have a team of shoppers that would love to purchase Christmas gifts for them.
The best way for you to help is to make monetary donations to help cover the cost
of some of these gifts. Starting Nov. 6th
, there will be a display in the foyer where
you can make donations. Is shopping your thing? We could use one or two more
shoppers. See Lesli Spitzner if you’d like to help or if you have any questions.

Coming Soon!
For the last five years the leadership team at Red Brush has been praying
for God's direction in expanding our facilities. We have discussed our
priorities and our greatest needs. We have sought not just a short-term
solution for our current situation, but a long-term strategy as well. We have
been working on a plan that will carry us many years into the future. We
have gone slowly because we want to expand our facilities in a way that
provides the greatest opportunities for growth for years to come.
Our greatest need is in the children's department. We have been blessed
with children! The nursery and preschool classes are always full and often
overflowing! Rusty Russell preached a revival here a few years ago and
mentioned that Christians should have more babies. Apparently, you Red
Brushers listened! We've had a baby boom!
We also desire to increase the security for the children's areas. We
already go to great effort to ensure that our children worship and learn in a
safe environment, but we see areas where we could improve. It is imperative
that we have a centralized check-in station with limited access to the
children's classrooms. We all hate to think about security concerns and
worst-case scenarios, but the world is changing. We want to ensure the
safety of all who attend Red Brush as best we can, especially for the little
ones.
In response to those needs, it seems that the first phase of our building
expansion project will be adding a children's wing. Building plans have been
drawn up and are nearing completion. Our eldership has had the foresight to
start saving for this project, but we will still need to do a capital gifts
campaign. It will begin sometime next year. Pray that God will bless us with
the finances. Pray that Jesus will be glorified throughout the entire process!
Please remember to return your filled baby bottles for the Crisis Pregnancy Center in Effingham.
Congratulations and Welcome to the Family!
We’ve had a couple more people transfer their membership to Red
Brush & we’re excited to tell you about them.
Sue Pride & Victoria Warren transferred their
memberships on Sept. 25th
. Victoria has been
involved at Red Brush for quite sometime. She
is a great-niece of Rick & Debbie Allen. Sue has
also been attending Red Brush for awhile now.
We are thrilled to have them both officially join the family.
Welcome, ladies!

J.O.Y. (Just Older Youth) BUNCH
Okay, several of you caught it. In the video I made just a few weeks ago announcing our upcoming gathering, I said that J.O.Y. stood for “Just Younger Youth.” Ooops! I didn’t mean to say that, but after doing about seven or eight takes in trying to get everything perfect, I thought, “I only messed up one word on that take, so let’s see how many are really listening to the video. Let’s see if anyone catches it.” Well, some did and some didn’t. I’ll do my best in getting it right next time. If I mess it up again, I’ll just have Jonathan edit it and make it right.
I have to admit that I did tell a couple of people that maybe the word “younger” applies too. If you could just go on some of our trips, you would see that we can act pretty young. In other words, we have a great time with jokes and pranks and laughter and so much more.
I do want to encourage everyone who is 55 or older to join us each month for the potluck meal and to go along with us on some of our trips. It’s amazing to me that more and more people from other area congregations are joining us in our various activities. That’s great! The more the merrier. While we welcome everyone from throughout the area, I sure would like to see more Red Brushers joining us.
The November gathering is Monday, November 7, from 11:30 to no later than 1:30. We are going to have a Thanksgiving meal featuring turkey. Everything else is potluck. We will be singing some thanksgiving songs, having a Thanksgiving skit, Darrell Carder will be sharing some thoughts on thankfulness, and who knows what else will transpire.
Come one, come all, to our monthly gathering. The program varies from month to month, (wasn’t the For Heaven’s Sake concert great!) but joy is the constant blessing we share, just as Nehemiah said in Nehemiah 8:10 – “The joy of the Lord is our strength.” In these days, we need all the strength we can muster up. Come, let the J.O.Y. Bunch gatherings be one of the joyful highlights of your month.
Still In His Service,
Ron Payne
