The Bakersfield Police Activities League, November 14th
is hosting it’s first Kids Festival at the 4th Street PAL Center. A car show will be a part of the
festivities that day. GEM member Rene Chow will be coordinating the car portion of the event
and is hoping for a large GEM turnout for this affair. Please fill-out the Reg form and return it:
For those of you who may not be
aware of the Bakersfield Police
Activities League (PAL), it is an
inter-city, youth community
center which offers neighbor-
hood children a safe place to
study, play sports, hangout, and
just feel safe after school in
neighborhoods that can feel
threatening at times.
This facility was built through
some very generous donation
from local businesses about 2
decades ago. It and its programs
still rely on public donations to
continue its operations.
I’m sure for many of us it’s hard
to understand the fearful feeling
of leaving the safety that a school
environment offers. But within
many of our communities that is
an unfortunate daily reality for
many of these neighborhood
children.
The proceeds raised from this
event will help to ensure that the
kids in these communities will
continue to enjoy a safe, positive
environment until their parents
come home from work.
Let’s have a big GEM turnout for
this event. Many of these kids
have never had the opportunity
to see cars like ours up close, or
maybe even sit in a few ! Some-
thing I’m sure they will go home
talking about.
