FROM CAMPUS MINISTRY

News & Updates

Bring a Friend Day is coming to the Junior Academy on Thursday, March 14th or Friday, March 15!

The Admissions Office is gearing up for a fun opportunity for our 7th and 8th Grade Eagles to share their love of NDA by bringing a 6th or 7th grade friend to NDA on Thursday, March 14, or Friday, March 15. Activities for the day include guest speakers, games and special treats for everyone who brings a friend on that day. More details will be coming soon from the admissions office!

FROM THE ADMISSIONS DEPARTMENT

We are in need of families to help host students who will be attending NDA for the 2019-20 school year. NDA is now home to several international students. Some stay for one year to have a cultural exchange and some would like to graduate from NDA.

We presently have a profile for a young lady from Beijing, she is an 8th grader, she needs a home NOW for 4th quarter if someone is looking for a short erm experience. Please call now if you are interested or would just like to learn more with no obligations. Call Ms. Angie Joseph at 419-475-9359 ext 1253 or email [email protected]

There are many benefits to hosting an international student. It brings a global perspective to your home. It encourages an international opportunity to learn more about another culture while sharing your culture with that student. It offers an opportunity to learn another language while teaching them about American language and meanings. More importantly, it is sharing your home with a young adult who is away from their parents and is looking for a supportive caring atmosphere to experience an academic, social and cultural experience.

General guidelines:

We only host students one year at a time. There is no obligation past that one year for those students who are looking to stay until they graduate. However, if both parties should agree that they wish to continue a second year that can be a possibility but not an expectation.

• Can be single or married• Can share a room with another student• Just needs a bed, somewhere to put their clothes

and a study area• Needs to be loved and guided just like your own kids

We will have several students from other countries that will need homes for next year. Their profiles will be ready within the next few weeks.

NDA IS LOOKING FOR HOST FAMILIES

The NDA Arts Parent Club sponsors two scholarships for NDA students: the Patricia Beazley IB Visual Arts Scholarship for a rising Senior, and the Becca Brookover Arts Grant for a current Junior. Details about these awards can be found on the Arts page of the NDA website.

CHANGE OF CONTACT INFORMATION?

Please note, as in recent years, the 2019-2020 school year also has additions to the immunization schedule for school admittance. In addition to other required immunizations, The State of Ohio requires all 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th and 12th graders to be vaccinated against Meningococcal disease. One dose is required for school entry. Also, 7th, 8th and 9th graders are required to have 2 doses of Varicella (Chickenpox) vaccine prior to entry.

Beginning now, students need to obtain this vaccine from their doctor, pharmacy or the Shots for Tots/Teens program thru the Lucas County Health Department. Again, this vaccine is required for the 2019-2020 school year for our incoming 7th graders, all 8th graders, 9th graders, 10th graders and 12th graders. After the vaccine is administered, please supply documentation of this to the nurses’ office.

Parents of SeniorsBe sure to have your daughter bring her acceptance letters and scholarship awards to the Counseling Center (a copy will be made and returned). This is the only way we are able to keep track of all of the good news as the colleges rarely alert us of their decisions. Thank you in advance! October 1 was the first official day that you could begin working on your FAFSA. Check the colleges your daughter is applying to for FAFSA submission deadlines. Now is a good time to go see the colleges your daughter has been accepted to but has not visited. Take a tour, talk with students, find out if the school is a good fit for your daughter! May 1st is Decision Day. This is the day when your daughter will declare what college she will attend (if she hasn’t done so already).

Parents of JuniorsI have begun meeting individually with your daughters to discuss the college search and application process. After our meeting, I create a list of colleges that I believe would be a good fit for your daughter. You can find this list in Naviance under the “Colleges I’m Thinking About” tab. You, as a parent, can log into Naviance using your email address and your student’s 6 digit ID number (220***). Please note that the list of colleges is made based on the information I have at the time of our meeting.

Parents of SophomoresDiscuss how important it is to maintain good grades, take an appropriately challenging course load, prepare for the ACT/SAT, and be involved in school and community activities. Colleges will be paying attention!

All parentsIt’s never too early to start planning college visits. Do you have spring break plans? Check and see if there are any campuses nearby for you to see! Please contact Mrs. Meier with any questions at [email protected] or 419-724-1007.

Kroger Community Rewards Update

It’s that time! Kroger has updated all Community Rewards homepages with your new quarter Community Rewards Earnings. The earnings reflect your shopping at Kroger between the dates of November 1st through January 31st. NDA must be listed as recipient of funds as well as a print date shown on the document to verify the correct quarter is being reported. All submissions must be received in the Business Office by April 1st in order to apply your credits to your tuition account. Keep in mind anything printed prior to March 1st is from the previous quarter and those numbers have been replaced with your new quarter earnings. Please note: Kroger Community Rewards is no longer running through the Scrip office and all questions should be emailed to [email protected] in the business office.

Dear Parents/Guardians of Juniors and Seniors, On Saturday, April 6th, 2019, we will be hosting the Junior/Senior Prom at The Pinnacle. I know how important it is for you to have the agenda of planned events for Prom night. Mindful of the serious liability issues, I am confident that no parent will condone the use of alcoholic beverages before or after the Prom. The safety of our young women is always a priority.

❖ Prom is a formal dance for Juniors and Seniors of Notre Dame Academy. ❖ Prom will be held on Saturday, April 6th, from 7:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. at The Pinnacle. After-prom follows

afterwards at Notre Dame Academy from 12:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. ❖ We expect all students to arrive at Prom by 7:30 p.m. Dinner is included. We will call the parents of

anyone who has not arrived by 7:45. Bids include the cost for the After-Prom party. When a student buys a bid for the Prom, she has also purchased a bid to After-Prom, and it is required that she and her date attend. Any student not planning to attend After Prom must speak to Mrs. Beaverson before purchasing the bid. Students may purchase After Prom bids separately if they are not going to the Prom.

❖ Students will be able to submit bid information online through NDA’s website beginning March 7th through March 22 at 3:00 pm. Payment by check (the students name must be listed on the memo line) or exact cash (in an envelope with the student’s name and double or single bid type listed on the outside of the envelope) may be made through the Business Office.

❖ For the gentleman, tuxedos are not required, but a suit, shirt with a collar, tie, dress shoes, etc. are expected. No baseball hats, athletic shoes, flip-flops or inappropriate apparel will be permitted. For the young

ladies, modesty and appropriate dress is expected. Notre Dame dress code expectations can be reviewed with the PowerPoint available on the NDA website which is to be shared with their date. It can be found under Campus Life/Forms.

❖ Couples may enter the hall at 7:00 p.m. ❖ Lifetouch will be at the prom to take candid pictures. Although there will be no formal background, you may

ask the photographer to take a picture of you and your date or group of friends. Those pictures may be purchased online at http://www.lifetouchevents.com. The password is notredamewp.

Please join me in thanking all of the parents who have worked countless hours these past several months preparing for the After-Prom. Your efforts are applauded! With your assistance, Prom 2019 will be another memorable school activity. Thank you for your cooperation in making this event a safe, happy and enjoyable one for our young women. Sincerely, Ms. Sarah Cullum Principal

We are offering a selection of annuals sold by the flat (48 plants per flat), flats of geraniums (10 plants in 4” pots), 10” hanging baskets and 12” patio pots. The flats are sold with 48 of the same plant. You can not mix and match the flowers. The patio pots have a spike, either three zonal geraniums or three New Guinea impatiens and three different filler plants such as bacopa, lobelia and coleus that will cascade over the edge of the pots. Prepaid orders are due Friday March 29, 2019. Plants will be available for pick up at Notre Dame Academy on May 8, 2019 from 3:00-4:00 pm in the circle drive.

Please make checks payable to NDA Rowing.

Thank you for supporting NDA Rowing.

NDJA BRING A FRIEND DAY

NDJA "Bring a Friend Day" is coming soon!

We are gearing up for a fun opportunity for our 7th and 8th grade Eagles to share their love of NDA by bringing a 6th or 7th grade friend to NDA on Thursday, March 14th or Friday, March 15th. Activities for the day include guest speakers, games and special treats for everyone who brings a friend on that day. If you know a 6th or 7th grader who would like to attend, please contact the admissions office. Due to the fact we have a larger class of students this year, the school has designated two different days so as to enable ample time and space for all our guests to enjoy their visit.

JA DAY OF SERVICE & UPCOMING RETREATJA Day of Service went well. Thank you to all parents who drove and helped to make the day a success! Students did several hours of service at Heartbeat, Maria Early Learning, Sunshine, and the Ronald McDonald House. The JA Retreat has been moved to March 20th. Permission slips have been sent home with students with more details.
