Auctioneer’s Report (Will Alexander): Calf trade up a gear today, with plenty of buyers ring-

side. Angus bulls in strong demand, the 8 best all over £300, topping at £345 from Dave Mar-

tin, Levens. Others £280-290. Angus heifers in more demand too, with plenty £180-£230. More

customers ringside for the Continentals, vast majority in the £300’s with the best £380-£402,

peaking at £420 from Alan & Stephen Wright, Roeburndale. Next draw down £320-£365. Blue

heifers to a top off £340 from Raymond Burrow, new vendors Messers Townley, Quernmore

close behind at £335. A shortage of the younger end calves forward with buyers leaving either

short of requirements or empty handed. Black and white trade off the clock, 15 5-8week olds

£105-£215, with plenty of calves £160-£190. Mediums £75-£95 with the smalls either side of

£45.

Auctioneer’s Report (Will Alexander): A shortage of dairy for the first sale back, but good to

be back selling in the ring! Buyers ringside for all types, leading to a nice trade for all forward,

the two top spots coming from John & Nicola Young, Kendal with both of their heifers realis-

ing £1900. Others £1600-£1700, a couple of Friesians from Steven Brennand peaked at

£1600. Thanks go to all vendors for entrusting us with the drop and go system. Next sale in a

fortnights time, entries wanted asap to help inform buyers.

Auctioneer’s Report: (Greg MacDougall): It was good to get back to business with the sales for sheep

and lambs getting back on track. With sales suspended for a good month a large company of buyers were

in attendance all keen for sheep with some leaving empty handed. Topping the mornings sale was a nice

consignment of continentals with Beltex lambs selling to £255 for Twins with singles to £230 and £225.

Mule Ewes with Twins £178-£190 with leaner types around £160. Texel x ewes on the whole £180-£200.

Singles £120-£150 with something nicer £170-£200. A pen of broken mouth Swales with Mule lambs

from G W Wallbank sold to £135. Some nice pens of Mule hoggs from R&E Butterfield sold to £185 with

Texel x Dales Mule hoggs to £192 from AH Price. Next week is the Great Annual Sale of Hoggs with

Lambs. Any potential buyers wishing to attend should ring any of the auctioneers of office to register as

to guarantee a place around the ring due to strict social distancing rules.

Auctioneer’s Report (Greg MacDougall): A much smaller show of cast sheep. Good selling and lean sorts similar on the week with over fat types harder to cash although by all reports dearer than other auc-tions the previous day. The nights sale was topped at £148.50 for Texels from WA Jenkinson. Nicer sorts in general £110-£125 with good sellers around £100. Over fat types £85-£95. Mule Ewes to £87.50 with trade in general £74-£79. Plain types £55-£65. Best Horned and other small hill breeds £60-£70 with a few pens £70+. Medium types in the £50’s with plain around £30 with some at realisation. Cast Rams to £100 for Charollais.

Auctioneer’s Report: (Greg MacDougall): A very pleasing trade with all buyers in

attendance all keen to buy hoggs. Once again a mixed show of quality with some good runs

of fed travelled hoggs. Overall average 202pkg. Handy weight hoggs certainly the best to

sell and many more could have been sold often 225-235p with something a bit heavier (46-

50kg) around 210p or in money terms £103-£108. A few nicer hoggs breaking the 240pkg

mark. Topping the nights sale was a pen of 10 Beltex hoggs from East Mains realising £117.

Heavy hoggs harder to cash with trade in general £95-£112. Handy weight Mules 200-220p

topping at 222.2p or £100 for 45kg from S Dorey. Well fleshed Horned hoggs 200p-210p

with lesser sorts 170p-180p.

Auctioneer’s Report: (Stephen Dennis): A show mainly comprising of Suffolk x Lambs

generally in the 42-43kg range and the Continental section short of the best quality.

Accordingly an overall average of 240pkg was an impressive result on a week when lamb

sales have been steady. Paul & Dorothy Roskell, Pilling topped the sale £117.50 with a 47kg

Texel x lamb whilst Mark Fawcett’s 1st consignment of Charollais x lambs sold to £114.

Suffolk x lambs from Barkers of Gunnerthwaite sold to £112.50.

CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) SALES UPDATE

(as at April 27th 2020)

Following a review of current regulations by Defra, Auction Marts are

now permitted to hold sales of Breeding Stock.

As with sales of Prime and Store Stock these sales will also be subject

to the recently established protocols regarding public health and

social distancing.

VENDORS:

“drop and go” policy remains in place

Remain in vehicle and have necessary paperwork ready

to hand to auction staff at unloading

Any instructions regarding lotting, reserves, etc should

be given to the auction staff when unloading—in writing

PURCHASERS:

On arrival you must register at the entrance to the sale ring and

hand sanitize on entry and exit.

For breeding and store sales you are advised to register the day

before to avoid disappointment as sale ring capacity is limited.

During the sale you must strictly adhere to the 2metre social

distancing and remain at your station allocated at the ringside or

seated area

After the sale access to the office is restricted to a maximum of

two customers at any one time.
