Honda Racing’s BSB riders Dan Linfoot and Jason O’Halloran took a break from the hectic race-day schedule to surprise the crowd with a parade lap on the new TT Special and Black Edition Fireblades.Nick Campolucci, Head of Motorcycles at Honda, introduced the bikes to the crowd:

“What a fitting setting in which to celebrate these bikes – Silverstone at the start of race season. The current generation Fireblade has been with us for the best part of a decade and keeps on surprising.

“The Black special is a no-nonsense Fireblade, reflecting the Honda mantra behind the bike - that you don’t always need all the bells and whistles to enjoy the ride and to obtain peak performance on-track.

“The TT Special is an acknowledgement of the incredible success that continues to be achieved with Fireblade. John McGuinness smashed the TT lap record last year and it’s doubly apt that we launch this bike today, in the same week that John was awarded the prestigious Segrave Trophy by the Royal Automobile Club. If you look at the past winners of that award, it reads like a who’s who of motorsport.”

The TT Fireblade includes:• Tri-colour paintjob• Race-inspired extras including a MotoGP-style

Akrapovic exhaust, limited edition black Gilles FX Levers, with Honda Racing etching and Gilles MotoGP lever guard

• Gilles TCA chain adjusters• Paddock Stand Lifters• Crash Pads• Galfer Stainless, Laser-Cut Wave Discs

Black Edition includes a host of dark refinement:• Smoked screen (27mm higher than standard)• Giles Brake Leavers with Honda etching and

Galfer front wavy discs• Honda colour-matched seat cowl• Carbon Fibre Hugger

The Black Edition Fireblades will be used by MCE Insurance, as pillion bikes at each BSB round this year.

Last month Honda celebrated the opening weekend of the 2016 MCE British Superbike Championship at Silverstone, by unveiling two new Fireblade Specials in-front of the race-day crowd.

His immense pace on the Repsol Honda RC213V meant that he was able to control the race from the front “I decided to keep calm in the early laps to try to understand the situation well, and when I started to find a feeling similar to practice, I decided to push the pace a bit. That was when I was able to open up a gap”, he said.

Unfortunately it was a difficult race for Repsol Honda team mate, Dani Pedrosa, who lost control on the first corner and crashed into Andrea Dovizioso.

We are now 4 races into the MotoGP season and it is certainly getting entertaining. Here is a roundup of the last two races:

10th April- Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas

The season kicked off a positive start for Repsol Marc Marquez achieved a very impressive victory on the Austin, Texas track, which is the first purpose-built Grand Prix facility in the USA. It is clear Marquez feels very at home on the Texan soil, as he has now claimed 4 consecutive pole positions and claimed the 2016 victory by more than 2.3 seconds.

Marquez was very much at his best throughout the whole weekend, after taking the lead on lap 5, and not looking back. This victory maintained his 100% record on the track.

24th April- Gran Premio Red Bull de Espana

The Repsol Honda Team obtained a solid result at the Red Bull GP of Spain yesterday, with Marquez standing on the final podium spot and finishing in fourth.

Pedrosa made one of the best starts from row three and was able to put his RC213V into third within just a few corners, before his teammate moved past him at the end of the first lap.

From then on, with air and ground temperatures much higher than over the previous days, the race hinged largely on tyre-wear management, with the leading trio of Rossi, Lorenzo and Marquez all on the same hard front and medium rear Michelin tyres, basically keeping the same respective positions through the entire race. On the podium, Marquez showed the Japanese flag in support of the Kumamoto earthquake victims.

BLIND SPOT MONITORING

Last month, Honda filed patent for a blind spot monitoring system, revealing a combination of cameras and radar systems covering a modelled Honda VFR1200F, it’s designed to provide feedback and warnings for the rider around their motorcycle.

It’s very likely that this sort of technology will appear on more models than just the VFR1200F.

The system is designed to detect vehicles, pedestrians and other objects through the use of monitoring sensors which creates a 360 field of vision. The driver will receive both visual and physical haptic feedback if the bike senses an imminent collision, when either a turn signal is activated or bike is turning in a dangerous direction.

The visual feedback will be through an indicator either on the driver’s instrument panel, or could be a separate attachment that is mounted on the upper triple clamp, this would be ideal for

Coming to Honda Motorcycles? The modern car is kitted out with a number of safety sensors and systems designed to provide the driver with information to help them stay safe, these include lane departure warnings, drowsiness detection and blind spot monitoring. But Motorcycles have been neglected in this field of safety, until now.

upgrading existing models. The haptic feedback will be provided through vibrating motors located around the bike in the seat, grips, fuel-tank knee rests and foot-pegs.

We think this sounds like a good development in Motorcycle safety and should help reduce the risk of injury for the riders. This new technology will hopefully provide the riders with enhanced situational awareness and should be a perfect rider’s aid on busy motorways.

It will be interesting to see if any other safety technologies will surface in the up and coming years, rumours have included visual displays in helmets and automatic braking.

The Africa Twin has certainly had a great launch, receiving excellent feedback from the press, customers and professional riders. Here are some of our favourite quotes:

AN UNLIKELY STUNT BIKE“This bike is very, very good. It absolutely sings off-road and it is immediately evident that this is its home territory- despite the fact that it performs brilliantly on-road too.” - motoryclenews.com

“With the Africa Twin, Honda hasn’t just returned to the adventure-bike class, it has redefined it. Welcome back, Big Red, you’ve been missed.” - Cycle World

“Honda say it’s True Adventure, after the last two days I couldn’t agree more. The engineers behind this bike deserve a pay rise.” - Bennetts

And the Honda Africa Twin keeps surprising us, its stunt bike capabilities have now surfaced to the internet. When you think of stunt bikes you probably don’t think of modified super sport bikes with large rear sprockets. The new Honda Africa Twin also probably doesn’t come to mind, but that didn’t stop a stunt rider from using one during his show- without the oversize rear sprocket. As you can see the stunt rider performs an impressive range of tricks including wheelies, stoppies, rolling burnouts, and skids, all making it look incredibly easy on the 232kg Africa Twin.

Fancy a closer look around the Africa Twin? Why don’t you come and take a look at the impressive Africa Twin at Chiswick Honda. We will happily answer any questions you have about the bike, organise test drives and prepare quotes on the remarkable vehicle.

In the meantime, why don’t you download the amazing app? The app uses CGI, 3D modelling and augmented reality to allow you to view the Africa Twin closer. You can even see how the Africa Twin will look in your garage, by using your smartphones rear camera.
