RAISING THE BAR

The all-new Nissan NP300 Navara sets a new benchmark in the one-tonne pick-up sector, combining the best of

Nissan’s Crossover leadership with over 80 years of experience in designing and manufacturing robust and cleverly engineered pick-ups. It made its European debut at the Frankfurt Motorshow on 15 September.

Improving comfort and refinement while maintaining the Navara’s acclaimed off-road ability, durability and loading capacity, was a cornerstone of the new vehicle’s development. The vehicle is all-new, with a robust and tough chassis that introduces a host of new engineering features designed to further improve drivability and practicality.

TechnologyIn-line with Nissan innovation, the new NP300 Navara introduces an array of new technology. In a sector that has traditionally been slow to adopt the very latest in comfort and safety features, it sets a new benchmark for affordable technology.

INTRODUCING THE ALL-NEW NISSAN NP300 NAVARA

Around View Monitor and Forward Emergency Braking (FEB) – both highly acclaimed Crossover safety features – are unique to the pick-up market and provide customers with more advanced levels of technology than ever before in a pick-up truck. Further safety and convenience features include Cruise Control, Hill Descent Control (HDC) and Hill Start Assist (HSA), all of which have been developed to meet the specific demands of NP300 Navara owners, as well as keyless entry, rear-view camera and parking sensors.Ride and HandlingImproving refinement and delivering a Crossover-style driving experience was a key element of the NP300 Navara’s development. To help achieve this without compromising the vehicle’s acclaimed off-road ability, Nissan has designed an all-new five-link rear suspension system for the Double Cab model, providing significantly improved ride comfort and

handling, and is 20kg lighter than the previous layout.

Engines and TransmissionThe NP300 Navara’s new 2.3-litre dCi engine is up to 24 per cent more efficient than the unit it replaces and is the cleanest and most economical in its sector. Available with two power output options, 118kW (160PS) and 140kW (190PS), the range-topping version introduces twin turbocharging technology to the sector for the first time and delivers exceptionally low running costs and substantially reduced CO2 emissions.

As customers have come to expect, the new NP300 Navara is as capable off-road as it is on-road. The four-wheel drive system builds on the strengths of the design fitted to the previous generation model, and delivers surefooted traction over rough terrain.

Payload and TowingKnowing that pick-up owners need their vehicles to earn their keep, the NP300 Navara’s load carrying and towing ability across the range is improved. With payload ratings now in excess of one tonne across the

range and an impressive towing capacity of 3,500kg, the new NP300Navara is ready for the toughest and most demanding of jobs or leisure pursuits.

Ponz Pandikuthira, Director of Light Commercial Vehicles for Nissan Europe commented, “Since we built our first Pick-Up in 1935, over 14 million customers in 180 countries around the globe have come to depend on Nissan pick-ups to transport their families, colleagues and cargo, sometimes in the toughest of circumstances. Nissan pick-ups have often been the lifeblood of their communities and a trusted work partner to businesses and tradespeople. Now in its 12th generation, we’ve harnessed this experience and our customer feedback to develop the new Nissan NP300 Navara which sets a new benchmark for performance, refinement, convenience and running costs in the sector.”The new NP300 Navara, with its impressive array of performance, safety, technology, comfort and convenience features, coupled with efficient running costs, make this vehicle the ideal partner for work and leisure.

Nissan Gripz Concept: A dramatic 2+2 takes Crossover concept to a new level

It’s not a new concept, of course, and we’ve Nissan pioneered the crossover sector with its amazingly-successful Juke, Qashqai and X-Trail ranges. With a combination of rugged 4x4 looks, hatchback running costs, luxury car rivalling technology and quality, more than 2.5 million have been sold across Europe. So can Nissan continue to innovate and move the bar higher? What if Nissan created a new way to feel driving excitement?

Well, Nissan has revealed a new concept car which points to an innovative new future for the marque. Conceived by designers in Europe and Japan, the Nissan Gripz Concept blends the ability and practicality of a compact crossover with the excitement and performance of a sports car.As before, this is officially a concept car. But the last Juke R titillated supercar collectors, leading to Nissan receiving offers plump enough to start a small production run and we wouldn’t bet against the same thing happening again.

InspirationAlthough maintaining a similar footprint to a compact crossover, the Nissan Gripz Concept

has the silhouette of a sports car with a raised ride height, equipped to conquer more challenging driving conditions. The result pays homage to one of Nissan’s first ‘crossovers’ - the iconic Safari Rally-winning Nissan 240Z. In the 1970s these sports cars were re-engineered using expertise gathered from Nissan’s 4x4 range to cope with the demanding conditions of the Baja Peninsula, the open plains of Kenya, Uganda and present day Tanzania. These rally racers featured a raised ride height, toughened suspension and sported a matt-black finish for the bonnet and trunk set against a deep red-orange body colour.

PowertrainThe Nissan Gripz Concept is equipped with an EV technology based Series hybrid system ‘Pure Drive e-Power’. An efficient petrol engine is used to power the electric motor found in the Nissan LEAF. The powertrain combines Nissan’s various control technologies from its years of experience developing EVs.

DesignThe Nissan Gripz Concept is seen as a design statement rather than a replacement for an existing model, although it does feature cues from Nissan’s new ‘emotional geometry’ design language. The Crossover concept incorporates four key design elements first seen in Europe on the Nissan Sway, one of the stars of the 2015 Geneva Motor Show

Dual PersonalityTaking the high-tech simplicity - two apparent contradictions - of a racing bicycle as inspiration, the concept features a carbon frame over which expressive body panels are placed, like armoured cladding. Exposed carbon elements spear through the design, accentuating features such as the boomerang-shape given to the leading edge of the front door structure. Gripz has four doors - with deep dihedral front doors that swing out and up when opened, and a pair of rear-hinged half-doors behind.

Like the Nissan Sway Concept and recent production cars, the Nissan Gripz Concept has a ‘Gliding Wing’ instrument panel. This elegantly thin design combines strength with simplicity and perfectly echoes the ethos of the concept.

Sunderland, UK, September 3rd, 2015: Five years after inventing the small crossover, Nissan announces a new generation Nissan Juke is slated for production in the UK.

› Second generation Juke to strengthen Nissan’s crossover leadership

› Further £100m investment in future of UK’s biggest car plant

› UK Chancellor welcomes outlook for 34,000 automotive jobsThe estimated £100m investment is a further endorsement of the quality of output from the Sunderland plant, and a statement of Nissan’s

intention to remain the undisputed crossover leader. Following the launch of the second generation Nissan Qashqai in 2013, future Juke allocation points to a secure future for both production lines in Sunderland and the jobs of 34,000 people currently employed by Nissan and its British suppliers beyond 2020.

Nissan Europe Chairman, Paul Willcox joined colleagues in Sunderland to celebrate the announcement. Willcox said: “The Juke’s unique design is one of the reasons Nissan is now the undisputed crossover leader, underpinning five consecutive years of sales growth in Europe. With the next generation Juke now confirmed for future production, customers can be assured that Nissan is going to remain the benchmark in the crossover segment for many years to come. This announcement also gives security to our Sunderland plant beyond 2020, which the team has earned through many years of hard work and their ability to continually raise the bar on quality.”

Giving a further boost to the UK car industry, Nissan’s European design team in Paddington, London, and European Engineering Headquarters in Cranfield, Bedfordshire, will be instrumental in the development of this new model - ensuring the European customer needs and taste are incorporated into the second generation Juke.

The UK’s Chancellor of the Exchequer, the Rt Hon George Osborne MP, said: “It’s fantastic news that Nissan will be building their new car here in Sunderland and securing valuable jobs for thousands of working people in the area. Our ambitious plan to build the Northern Powerhouse means building on the area’s strengths - including manufacturing - and this announcement is an important sign of Britain being chosen as a global leader in car production.”

The announcement follows Juke’s latest recognition, this time from the respected J.D. Power UK Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS). The study of owner reported problems

experienced during the first three years of vehicle ownership ranked the Nissan Juke as the number one small car and the Nissan brand fourth overall for vehicle dependability. Nissan is now the biggest carmaker in the history of the UK car industry, with annual output exceeding 500,000 in each of the last three years and currently includes the Nissan Qashqai, Juke, Note and all-electric LEAF. Nissan employs nearly 8,000 people in its UK design, engineering, sales and manufacturing operations, supporting an additional 27,000 jobs in the UK supply chain plus 3,900 in dealerships.
