THE DDANEWSFROM

Strategic PlanEarlier this summer, an intercept survey was administered in downtown. The survey was also distributed through the DDA’s social media, and through our list serve of over 1500 subscribers. Over 1100 responses to the survey were received. A second, more detailed survey was distributed earlier this week and will provide input on issues pertaining to business mix, hours of operation, and shopping habits and more. To participate in the survey, go to Downtownnorthville.com or click here. Two joint meetings of the Planning Commission, City Council, and DDA have been set for November 17th and 29th from 6:30 – 8:00 pm in City Council Chambers to discuss strategies on how we can achieve some of the outcomes identified to date. Once the information is pulled together a community public information meeting will be held to review the survey results, market information, and draft strategic program and solicit responses.

Wayfinding SignageDDA Staff, DPW Director Jim Gallogly, Volunteer John Argenta, and traffic engineer Cheryl Gregory meet with Wayne County Road Commission engineers on October 10th to discuss outstanding issues with Phase II of the DDA’s Wayfinding Project. These issues were resolved and the project will be bid out the first week in November for an early spring installation. The project will include the larger Type A signs that direct visitors to Historic Downtown Northville. These signs will primarily be placed on 7 and 8 Mile Roads. In addition to the Type A signs, a permanent sign at the Comerica Community Connection will be fabricated and installed and a sign directing pedestrians to Shop and Dine on Mary Alexander Court will be part of the project as well.

Newspaper Rack ReplacementThe news racks located outside of 210 West Main will be removed and replaced with a smaller news rack which will hold two paid and two free publications. The rack at Hutton and Main Street, east of Hutton Park, will be removed and the concrete slab will be utilized for the installation of a bike rack and additional landscaping. The Newsrack is expected to be delivered in early November. Cady Street Parking Deck Beam RepairBids have been received for the repair work of a beam in the lower level of the Cady Street Parking Deck. The bid will go to City Council for consideration in November. Construction is scheduled to be completed this fall in order to reopen several parking spaces for the holidays that are currently coned off for safety reasons.

Seasonal DécorSummer flowers were removed and fall landscaping was installed at the end of September. Mums, kale and pansies have been planted at the entranceway to downtown, at the Main and Center Street intersection and in Town Square. Bales of hay, mums, cornstalks and pumpkins were delivered to 2 dozen businesses in the downtown.

Skeletons are Alive! The event kicked off on October 7th with over 110 life sized skeletons on display throughout the Downtown area. Live entertainment, food trucks and vendors were featured in Town Square at the event. The attendance was terrific, with great weather for the event. A walking map was created of all of the skeletons that participated in the program. We continue to receive great media coverage.

Wok Asian Bistrowww.wokasianbistro.comAddress: 144 Mary Alexander CourtPhone: (248) 719-7622

Wok Asian bistro has been busy making a name for themselves and continues to be featured on on Fox2, Channel 7, Channel 4, and TV20! Earlier this year Plymouth Today featured them in their late summer edition (http://mymediaflip.com/publication/?i=331611#{“issue_id”:331611,”page”:12}). The newer restaurant, which prides itself on fresh, locally sourced & organic stir fry, is located on Mary Alexander Ct and they’re excited to share the some of the events they have! Wok’s focus on gluten free, allergy sensitive and vegan diners has been

bringing new faces to Northville seeking a healthier and more modern Asian option than what’s currently available.

Every Tuesday they have been doing LIVE MUSIC with Roy Scoutz starting at 6:30 and will continue through winter - HAPPY HOUR drinks all night as well. Every Thursday all Sake & Sake Drinks are HALF OFF! Sunday’s are $2 Bloody Mary’s & Mimosa’s! Each and every Wednesday Wok presents their version of Wine Down Wednesday featuring two entrée’s and bottle of ONEhope Wine (charity wine program that donates 50% of their profits to associated charities) for $40! Wok’s wine program features the largest selection of wines that support charity: ONEhope Cabernet (to autism), ONEhope Merlot (to eradicate global disease), ONEhope Sauvignon Blanc (to the environment), ONEhope Chardonnay (to fight breast cancer), ONEhope Pinot Noir (pet adoption), ONEhope Sparkling Brut (meals for starving children), ONEhope Zinfandel (support our troops), Michigan made Chateau Grand Traverse’s “Picnic” White and “Woods” Red (Michigan Dept of Natural Resources to keep our state parks looking beautiful), 10 Span Pinot Noir (Ventana Wildlife Society working to revitalize the California Condor) and Concannon Cabernet (donates 50% of the profits to a Detroit food bank Wok is working with).

From the bar they just brought in Leelanau Cellars Pinot Grigio and are featuring two new drinks: Orient Apple Blossom featuring a blend of Apple Vodka and Hendricks Gin and the Sochu Mule which is an Asian twist on a Moscow Mule with the smooth and low-calorie Japanese Soju!

Their locally sourced Michigan Cherry Pie Wontons were a big hit this summer and the Pumpkin Pie Wontons have been selling out every week! Be on the lookout for the Red Velvet Cheesecake Wontons to make their return in December and don’t forget about their Fire Apples dessert which is the perfect way to finish off a meal in the fall.

Wok has been busy out on the appearance trail doing live cooking demos at Northville’s, Farmington’s and Canton’s Farmers Markets as well as Liberty Fest in Canton. “The reception in the communities outside of downtown Northville has been tremendous,” says owner Greg Richards. “With our ability to cater to any dietary restriction, we’ve been a place that families from all over the area are driving great distances (some over an hour) to get to. That’s a designation that not too many restaurants anywhere can claim!”

In December Wok will bring back their NO PEEKING RED ENVELOPE promotion which will give anyone who dines in December the chance to win a $250 Dinner Party! Don’t forget that wok has ONLINE ORDERING and does CATERING (including offsite liquor license) as well, so be sure to use them for your next event!
