Entertainment: Jennifer King reported that the Octoberfest went very well and was well attended. Thanks to all who helped make it such a fun event. Caroling at the Community Beach is our next event on Sunday December 18 at 6 PM. Santa will arrive at the Harris’ home (432 Edgewater Road) immediately after the caroling. Remember to drop off labeled and wrapped gifts for your kids at the Harris’ earlier that day! Call Jennifer King with questions.

Membership: No Report.

Beach: No report.

Park: Rae Regula reported that the playground structure at the park is up and ready for use thanks to the help and hard work of the following: Marty Gavin, Glenn Ebaugh and Moe Donovan, Michael and Lois Warner, Tom and Sue Coburn, Nick and Andrea Briggs, and Rae Regula. After the many hours of hard work, Abigail and JacobWarner, and Shannon, Ailee and Quinn Briggs tested the “Fun Factor” and workmanship of the new addition. A very big thank you to all the community for your help and support (good pizza!) of the North Shore Park and playground. At this time the Park is in good shape for the winter months, with many plans for the upcoming spring.

Pier: Brian Ferguson reported that not much is going on. Most of the boats have been removed for the season. He has priced shed packages that range from $700-$1200.

Roads and Zoning: No Report.

Greater Pasadena Council: Robin Gearhart-Sayler reported that the GPC is struggling to remain a viable organization. There has been no interest and only three communities send members although many more pay their dues. Lois Warner expressed concern that this organization might go under as it is one of the area’s few resources to send to Annapolis when issues crop up that affect this peninsula. Lois will review if there is a website for the GPC, and

propose some changes that will keep this organization viable. Roberta Watts suggested that the board send a letter to the Pasadena Voice to express our concern and drum up interest.

Garden Club: Sarah Ann Parsons reported that the Garden club is hosting its Annual Holiday Open House this Friday starting at 6 PM at Clara Bartholomee’s home at 1195 Long Cove Road. The second home will be at the McMahon’s (515 Edgewater Road). All are encouraged to attend and see what the talented garden club members have created, socialize and meet old/new neighbors! Donations are being accepted for Arden House at the open houses. Sarah Ann Parsons will host the Garden Club’s ornament exchange. It has been rescheduled for Wednesday December 14th at 7 PM at 374 Dutchship Court (easier access from North Shore Road). All are invited, bring an ornament (wrapped) and a dish to share.

OLD BUSINESS: There have been no more reports of loud noises during the predawn hours near the North Shore beach. Thank you to our neighbors who are now in compliance with the neighborhood covenants.

NEW BUSINESS: Rae Regula reported that a neighbor is concerned with the noise from an overzealous driver of an unlicensed motorized vehicle on the vicinity around Park Creek Road. The board discussed the issue and recommends that the individual contact the county (see last month’s Barnacle for numbers) about the noise issue..

Lois Warner wants to thank Jennifer Hobbins for her generous donation to the community. It will help defray the costs of the Holiday Open House, and pay her membership dues for two years.

The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday January 3 at the home of Jennifer Harris at 7 PM. Lois motioned to adjourn the meeting at 8:30 PM. Rae Regula seconded the motion. All in favor, motion carried.

GARDEN CLUB REPORT

What a wonderful start to the Christmas season we had with our Holiday Open House. Thanks so much to Clara Bartholomee and Patty and Tom (not Tim like I put on the flyer) McMahon for generously allowing the Garden Club to invade their homes to decorate and host the event. We had at least 100 people and the food was magnificent. The Christmas spirit abounded and I know everyone had a great time. It is always so terrific to begin the holidays with this community event. It reminds us all how fortunate we are to live in such a great community and be surrounded by so many friends.

And speaking of being fortunate, the generosity of our friends with their donations for Arden House was overwhelming. We more than filled the two huge boxes with items from the wish list. I know they will be most appreciative of our gifts and we are grateful for all the community gave.

Thanks must go out to the Garden Club members who helped with their decorating skill, set-up and clean-up and food donations. Thanks go to Charlene Wroten, Sarah Jenkins, Lani Cochran, Dee Feehley, Jennifer Harris, Jeanne Brush, Robin Saylor, Rae Regula, Earlyn Bartholomee, Roberta Watts, Cris Imle and of course, Clara and Patty. Also, special thanks to Denny Debus, Rich Fenton, Charlie Parsons and Roger Bartholomee for their help, too. And many people helped that night with their efforts to make things run smoothly. If I have forgotten anyone, please accept my apologies and let me know so I can mention you in the next report. We could have never done it without all the help from everyone.

Also, a huge thank you goes to Jim Logan for providing the fresh greens we used for decorating. We really appreciate his generosity.

Our next meeting is being held on Wednesday, December 14 (not our regular meeting date because of the holidays) at 7 at my house. It is a social meeting and everyone is invited. Your ticket to attend is to bring a wrapped ornament that cost around $10 for our ornament exchange. If you can bring a dish to share that is great. If not, we will have plenty to eat and drink so come anyway. We always do seem to have more than enough food.

One suggestion that came from the open house is that we should compile a cookbook of all the delicious recipes of the food we have had at the open houses. We will consider this at a future meeting as a way to make money for the Garden Club or just to share with our neighbors.

Again, thanks to Clara and Patty and Tom for hosting another successful start to the holiday season. We hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and the Happiest of New Years.

Sarah Ann Parsons

North Shore on the Magothy Community c/o Mr. & Mrs. Sean Harris 432 Edgewater Road Pasadena, MD 21122

Dear Mr. & Mrs. Harris:

On behalf of the employees, Board of Directors, and our clients, the YWCA of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County would like to express our sincere thanks to the North Shore on the Magothy Community for your generous contribution of gift cards, household items, puzzles, and toys to Arden House. Your gifts will truly make a difference in the lives of those we serve. We are very appreciative that you chose the YWCA to receive these donations.

A startling statistic is that one in four women will experience domestic violence at some point in her life. She will need support in many ways whether it is safe refuge, counseling, or legal services. The YWCA assists victims of domestic violence and sexual assault every step of the way by offering:

./ 24-hour crisis lines for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault;

./ The only domestic violence safe house shelter in Anne Arundel County (Arden House);

./ Attorneys and legal advocates to assist in obtaining peace and protective orders;

./ Licensed therapists for individual and family therapy;

./ Support groups for survivors;

./ Mentoring programs for middle and high school students;

./ Abuser intervention programs;

./ Anger management classes;

./ Hospital accompaniment for victims of sexual assault.

We would be unable to provide support without the generosity of people like you. Thank you for reaching out to the YWCA; we are grateful to count you as a supporter!

Kind regards, -n-\PrN~ '-tOG SO ~I--\ fi:::>~ '-\OL)~ ~et20L.)s,.
