Historic preservation work to begin for theNational Western Center site This month, the NDCC in collaboration with the WesternStock Show Association, Colorado State University,Denver Museum of Nature and Science, History Coloradoand the National Western Center Citizens AdvisoryCommittee, formally launched the first of five phases ofhistoric preservation efforts for the National WesternCenter project. Phase I of this work takes the first steptoward implementing the vision of the National WesternCenter (NWC) Master Plan, which includes honoring andinterpreting the stock show site's past for futuregenerations to enjoy. The first phase is expected to be complete by June 2016.The scope of Phase I includes:
A comprehensive history of the National WesternCenter Site that includes documenting acomprehensive history of the National WesternCenter site through the compilation of writtenrecords, photos, timelines, oral histories, andinterviews that captures the site's physical andhistorical evolutionNational Register of Historic Places and DenverLandmark nominations for three historic structureson the siteCondition and Structural Assessment for fivehistoric features on the site

Platte to Park Hill:Stormwater SystemsIn November, the NDCC hostedthe first public meetingfocused on the Platte to ParkHill Stormwater Systemsproject at Bruce Randolph.Part of a broader city‐wideeffort called the OutfallSystems Plan (OSP), thisproject will define specificstormwater problem areas and develop watershed‐widesolutions to mitigate flood hazards for the Cole,Globeville, Elyria, Swansea, River North, Clayton andNortheast Park Hill communities . The project will alsoprovide a foundation to identify opportunities for phasedcommunity improvements such as:
building much‐needed drainage improvements inthe areaproviding phased flood protection ranging from 5to 100‐year eventsenhancing multimodal connectivityproviding water quality amenitiesimplementing innovative stormwater managementstrategiescreating opportunities for open spacedeveloping placemaking and urban design tocomplement the community
At this public meeting, residents had the opportunity toprovide input and ask questions related to a variety ofalternatives being considered.

38th & Blake Station Transit OrientedDevelopmentProgress continues! The most noticeable improvementsyou see from the Public Infrastructure (38th & BlakeStation) TOD Project are sidewalks. This project will addthousands of feet of new sidewalks that will improvepedestrian access to RTD's 38th & Blake rail station.Specific areas identified for sidewalk improvementsinclude:

Visual Design Workshop In December, CDOT will be discussing the look and feel ofthe I‐70 East Project with the community. Residents willbe able to talk to the project team members, askquestions, express your concerns and provide commentson the design aesthetics of the project. The workshop will include:

RTD Station Development
Quiet zones established A quiet zone, where a train does not have to blow itshorn through an intersection, will be fully establishedalong the East Rail (A) Line and the Gold (G) Line by thetime they open.
Expect to hear the occasional train horn during the testingphase of the corridors as part of the safety commissioningof the lines which is underway.
This quiet zone is not only a federal mandate for RTD'scommuter rail, but the freight trains will also be requiredto cease blowing their horns through intersections.
However, if there is an emergency on the track ormaintenance crews in the railroad right of way, the trainswill blow their horns.
Safety measuresThese are just a few of the safety measures put into placeat these train and roadway intersections to keeppedestrians, vehicle traffic and train passengers safe:
Quadrant gate arms ‐ You'll notice at theseintersections that four gate arms blocking all lanesin both directions are in place to keep vehiclesfrom swerving around the gates when they aredown.Pedestrian gates and channelization ‐ Pedestrianswill see a gate arm or pull swing gate at eachintersection to alert them of a train coming. Inaddition, there is chain link fencing along thesidewalk as you approach the intersection toensure you enter the crossing in the correct area.All crossings are compliant with the American'swith Disabilities Act (ADA).Safety signage ‐ Ample safety signage is installed atall intersections that alert pedestrians and vehiclesof where to safely stop to wait for a train and that asecond train may be coming in the other direction.Audible and visual alerts ‐ As is true with most trainintersections, these crossings will also have bells

and flashing red lights to alert all traffic that a trainis coming.
Remember, always obey all safety signage, lights andother warning devices when near train tracks. Always lookboth ways before crossing the track and only do so whenall gate arms are up and the lights have stopped flashing.And, never trespass on any train track ‐ it's not only illegal,but incredibly dangerous.

Public Tours Available of the Commuter RailMaintenance FacilityThe Regional Transportation District (RTD) and itscontractor on the Eagle P3 Project, Denver TransitPartners, are continuing public tours of the commuter railmaintenance facility (CRMF) in Denver.
The one‐hour tour is available by reservation on a first‐callbasis. Regularly scheduled tours will take place the firstand third Tuesday of each month, from 4 to 5 p.m. Spaceis still available for the next tour on Tuesday, December 1from 4 to 5 p.m.

North Metro Line Construction at the National Western.
RTD Receives first commuter vehicles forNorth Metro Rail LineVehicles will be delivered through March 2016
The Regional Transportation District (RTD) received thefirst two commuter rail cars for the North Metro Rail Lineon November 18. Arriving from Hyundai Rotem'sPhiladelphia factory, these two vehicles were delivered byfreight train to RTD's commuter rail maintenance facility(CRMF).
A total of 66 commuter rail vehicles will be in the fleet,which will be used on the University of Colorado A Line toDenver International Airport, the B Line to Westminsterand the G Line to Arvada and Wheat Ridge as well asNorth Metro. Twelve of the 66 commuter rail vehicles aredesignated for the North Metro Line. Shipments of these12 vehicles will continue through March 2016. To date, 48vehicles have been delivered to the CRMF.
Following the arrival in Denver, the vehicles will be testedon the University of Colorado A Line, B Line and G Linebefore they are ready for the North Metro Line. The 12commuter rail cars will be tested over three to fourmonths prior to acceptance by Denver Transit Partners.When the North Metro Line construction is complete, thevehicles will undergo 500 miles of additional testing aspart of the line's overall integrated testing.
Safety is a priority, and RTD has ensured enhanced safetyfeatures on commuter rail vehicles as these vehicles travelfaster and carry more passengers than light rail vehicles.Safety features include automatic and positive traincontrol and live onboard diagnostics‐to highlight a few.Positive Train Control provides the operator with dynamicspeed restriction and braking information as well as real‐time control over crossing gate activations. Live onboarddiagnostics give the train operators information to detectfailures on critical components, should a problem occur
