The recent flurry of activity by foreign compa- nies to invest here has provided a very welcome boost for the local economy. Michael Greene, Commercial Director with local estate agents, Shane Redmond, confirmed to the County Leader, that there was a lot of interest among large multi national companies in locating in Swords. “Tesco have a planning application for a supermarket and retail outlets, as well as a medical centre, cafe and restaurant over two floors.” This will be located on the Holywell Relief Road. The floor space covers 5,309 sq metres, with car parking space for 299 cars. This news has generated a welter of excite- ment and is certain to inject much needed life into that part of the town. “The employment potential in building such a project, will ensure that many skilled, but unemployed trades people in the region will, at last, be able to ply their skills locally,” said Greene. Another project that is generating excitement in the town is the proposed building of a new Applegreen Service Station on North Street. The expected throughput of traffic here, is viewed by many as a vital injection of life to this end of the town. Much needed footfall here will be very welcomed by businesses, who may have felt isolated from the hustle and bustle of Main Street. The imminent opening of Lidl on Rathbeale Road in the next few weeks, has been followed by news that German retail giants, Aldi are considering moving to Swords. According to Greene, “Aldi are looking at several sites in Swords. This is all good news for the town and environs and the creation of construction and long terms jobs is to be welcomed. The more businesses that are attracted to Swords, the more appealing the town is for residents and visitors alike,” he concluded. The prospect of these vital projects coming to fruition will remind many of the Celtic Tiger era, with the welcome return of the ‘Breakfast Roll Man’ in his high viz vest and hard hat. It will also go a long way to stopping the hateful haemorrhage of local workers making the short trip to Dublin Airport, in search of work in the four corners of the globe. It would appear that the excellent road network in the area and the proximity of Swords to vital centres, such as city and Dublin Airport are, at last, bearing fruit. The desirability of Swords and the North County area in general, as a place to set up business, has never been in doubt. This just copper fastens this belief. Fingal Dublin Chamber CEO, Tony Lambert gave a guarded welcome to the news. He said,” Swords is obviously an attractive place for investment and is a magnet for various retail groups, who want to locate in the area. The Chamber welcomes any investment that provides commercial facilities and creates jobs.” However, he issued a note of caution when he spoke about proper planning being in place. “What we don’t want to happen is that by overdevelopment, the retailing fabric of the area is damaged. We read about these everyday in the newspapers. Drogheda is a particular case in point here,” he said. The fact that large multi national companies are prepared to invest vast sums of money into our area, is true testament that the North County region is, indeed, open for business. Many believe that the advent of these projects is destined to provide a trigger point in reviving the local economy, which has already seen modest growth in the past few months and hopefully will spark the flame of the greater, national recovery. Brand new and everybody is already talking about the new kid in town. The Bracken Grill Steak & Seafood Restaurant is the new child of Luke Moriarty and his team at the Bracken Court Hotel.

General Manager, Rory Keogh is explaining the inspiration behind The Bracken Grill: “Think late-night Chicago steakhouse: polished booths that enclose years of secrets, big slabs of aromatic prime rib, sparkly cocktail glasses clinking at every table, wisps of smoke drifting through the spotlight that shines on a woman singing the blues. The Bracken Grill ... A Steak House and Seafood Restaurant ... is all this - minus the years, [the smoke] and the blues.”

Experience the combination of charred cuts, perfectly paired with decadent sides set in a siren-red interior where old-world glamour meets modern style and sophistication.

The Bracken Grill is a feast for the senses. The mouthwatering aroma of seared beef greets diners as soon as they turn the door’s handle. The sexy and slightly masculine vibe that comes from curved lines and luxurious rich leather booths brings them in for a comfy embrace. And then the prime steaks, carefully grilled to perfection with optional indulgences like crab and shrimp toppings, makes primal palates rejoice.

The polished, dark leather booths hum with the conversation of well-heeled diners leaning over slender martinis and rotund globes of red wine.

Waiters all in black, whisked by bearing trays of succulent steaks. The clink of glasses at the bar mixed with the lilt of the piano, which was playing a song that never goes out of style: ‘You must remember this, a kiss is just a kiss’...The Bracken Grill is as timeless as the song...with its dim glow and din of dishes and discussion so soothing that it could be sold on iTunes, The Bracken Grill looks as if it has always been in the heart of Balbriggan.

To reserve a table, please feel free to contact Bracken Grill on 01-8413333 or email: [email protected].

Roganstown is one of the few golf hotels in Dublin to offer both golf club membership and country club membership, where members have full use of the golfand leisure facilities. Legendary Irish golfer and now one of the world’s leading golf

course designers, Christy O’Connor Jnr, has created a masterpiece of skill and tactical design at Roganstown.

North County GolfThe ancient game of Golfhas long been viewed asthe preserve of the richand privileged thatsmacked of elitism. It

was played by middle-aged men and womenin private clubsaround the country. This image had asemblance of truth

about it up to about30 years ago, but in

the intervening time, golf has changed out ofall proportions to becomeone of the most sought-after leisure activitiesaround. In this time, golfcourses have sprung upall over the place and thegame reached a peak inpopularity among most

people. It suddenlybecame affordable. However, not all peoplewere drawn to golf.Teenagers seemed to beimmune to the attractionsof this great game. It wasconsidered as ‘fuddyduddy’ and not ‘sexy’ tobe seen carrying golfclubs around. Footballand other traditionalsports were seen as thepopular pursuits. Thiswas all about to change ina dramatic way. Thetremendous success ofIrish golfers, includingPadraig Harrington,Darren Clarke andGraeme McDowell, allMajor winners propelledIreland to the forefront of

world golf. Their contribu-tion to successful RyderCup teams has beenimmeasurable.Enter a certain Irishman,Rory McIlroy and now youhave a completelydifferent scenario. Thenew World Number 1 hasgiven golf the impetus itso badly needed. Thisaffable 22 year old wasabout to send golf intoorbit. Now, young boysand girls regard it as sexyto play golf and to beseen to play. Young girls

see him as a pin-up andyoung boys view him as arole model to be copied.Similarly the youngCavan twins, Lisa andLeona Maguire haveadded glamour to thegame, particularly foryoung girls. To cater for this newdemand for golf, we areextremely fortunate herein the North County, tohave an abundance ofexcellent golf courses, ranging from the finestlinks and parklandcourses to be foundanywhere. Moreover, golfhas now become highlyaffordable, with clubsvying for new members,

resulting in incrediblevalue for new members. With the influx of newjuvenile and juniormembers and the new-found interest amongthis age group, mostlocal clubs conductclinics for youngmembers every Saturdaymorning in summer. Topclass professionals areavailable at each club toprovide lessons andimpart their vast knowl-edge of the game to newmembers. Well stockedpro shops have thelatest clubs and equip-ment to ensure that youare well togged out toenjoy your game.
