The Regional VelowebAn interconnected network of off-street trails designed to provide safe efficient mobility to pedestrians cyclists and in-line skaters.

Design Considerations• Concrete surface

• Design speed of 25 miles per hour

• Recommended minimum 12 foot widthto accommodate a variety of users

• Grade separated crossings

• Few, if any, signalized or stop sign intersections

• Easy access from roadways, particularly on-street bicycle routes

Page 6: North Central Texas Bicycle and Pedestrian …...North Central Texas Bicycle and Pedestrian Planning Initiatives LMRA Bicycle Club Meeting October 23, 2006 North Central Texas Council

Individual routes were determined through:• The inventory of existing and funded trails

• Facilities planned by local governments

• Routes providing air quality benefits

• Routes linking transit stations

• The potential to link these routes together and provide access to important trip origins and destinations

• The potential for securing free or low cost right-of-way

Routes with high exposure levels and linkages to transit are given priority status for funding.

The Regional VelowebRoute Determination

Page 7: North Central Texas Bicycle and Pedestrian …...North Central Texas Bicycle and Pedestrian Planning Initiatives LMRA Bicycle Club Meeting October 23, 2006 North Central Texas Council

New facility locations indicate transportation needs and do not represent specific alignments.

All existing railroad rights-of-way should be monitored for potential future transportation corridors.

All Veloweb routes should be targeted for right-of-way preservation.

Considerations for Districts• Street Pattern–Grid street patterns allow

walking and cycling for short trips

• Land Use – Integrated and mixed land usespromote walking and cycling

• Proximity to Rail Stations

• Bicycle and Pedestrian Needs Indices• Medium Income• Population density• Employment density• Percentage of transit trips • Percentage of trips 5 miles or less

• Within all rail corridors all existing and planned stations arebicycle and pedestrian districts

• 60 miles of streets marked as bicycle routes, with four signs per mile

• Routes are based upon the Fort Worth Bicycle Blueprint, a planning document created by NCTCOG in 1999

• To be funded with roughly $100,000 in Fort Worth local funds
