Kindy News

Last week at Kindy we experimented with straws to see what we could make with them. Frankie decided to build a house and he used the hot glue gun to glue to straws together. We also introduced the children to a few "red foods" through the "Eat a Rainbow" program. We smelt, licked and ate some strawberries, watermelon, tomatoes, red grapes and capsicum, before using the vegetables to make savoury scrolls!

Don't forget that the kindy has a student free day next Tuesday 13th March 2018, as the staff will be attending some training at the school.

Career News – Please contact Kathy at school if you are interested in these options

Makeup and Hairdressing

Students interested in studying courses or short courses in Makeup, Hair and Beauty are advised that Colour Cosmetica offer a range of courses, including screen and media makeup as well as qualifications in hairdressing and general makeup. Brochures are available from school. There are other options that exist for students in these fields that are more local, including the hairdressing courses offered by TAFE at Jamestown as advertised in the newsletter last week. If students are interested, they should contact Kathy at school. UMAT – Careers in Medicine & Dentistry (South Australian universities)

Students who are interested in these careers need to sit the mid-year UMAT test before they can be accepted into

courses. Although no Year 12 students have nominated this year, interested students in Years 10 & 11 are advised

there are courses available to prepare you for the UMAT before you get to Year 12.

Work Experience

Students from Years 10-12 are encouraged to take up opportunities to complete work experience. There are many benefits for this, including personal development, but opportunities for future employment and training may also open up, including school-based apprenticeships. Students who show a passion for a particular field of work by completing a range of work experiences in that field are often highly valued by employers.

At this stage, Year 11 students have been provided with the necessary forms and letters to complete their planning for work experience. Year 10 students will be provided with the materials as soon as we can access these.

If students are interested in a particular field and are unsure of places to contact, please email me with your query at [email protected]
