A sense of community in Morocco

PortNet, Morocco’s highly advanced port community system, has expanded its operations with the launch of new Single Window Services at the Port of Agadir and New Paperless Services at Nador. The PortNet platform was first deployed at Casablanca in 2011 by the National Ports Agency (ANP). It has since been extended to all commercial ports by the ANP and to other foreign trade processes since 2012.More than 35,000 users in Morocco, says PortNet general manager Jalal Benhayoun.«Agadir is the natural outlet for agribusiness activities in the plain of Souss-Massa. Like the other ports under the supervision of the ANP, it already benefits from the paperless management of ship calls since 2012, via the PortNet platform, «he says. Paperless export procedures are now in place, including electronic processes relating to the National Food Safety Authority, and now PortNet is expanding its services to cover import processes at Agadir.

In a new development supported by the World Bank, PortNet is launching a new ‘Trade Portal’.To be integrated into the Single Window, it will not be necessary to provide information to the international marketplace. users’ choices and decisions, says Mr Benhayoun.«The Trade Portal will allow users to benefit from the experiences of other users of the Single Window, without compromising the confidential nature of personal data. The Trade Portal will be able to provide a cost-effective approach to simulators, by-product-and-product-and-error-based solutions. For example, it provides information on the cost of an imported product, or on the competitiveness of an export product, to support the decision-making process regarding the choice of a market or a supplier.

Crédit du Maroc: international trade, theme of«2018 Corporate Rendezvous» Crédit du Maroc inaugurates the 2018 season of Rendez-vous Corporate. Initiated in 2016. These meetings bring together clients of the bank around specific themes, with the aim of informing and promoting synergies, particularly on international trade. The first meeting of the season was held on May 15 at the Training and Conference Center of Credit du Maroc.Alongside Crédit du Maroc, this f irst meeting in 2018 involved Crédit du Maroc’s partners: Asmex and PortNet , two key p layers in the country’s international exchanges, as well as Risk Management consultant Mehdi Fakir. The Rendez-vous Corporate by Crédit du Maroc is aimed at importing and exporting customers,

but also all international operators whether or not members of Asmex, regardless of their size: VSE, SME or GE. The Casablanca-Rabat route was the first stop on the road show on May 15th. Over 100 companies responded. Three major topics were tackled by high-level specialists: a review of the new exchange rate regime a few months after its entry into force, PortNet’s new services in 2018 and Crédit international’s offer of international support. Morocco and Asmex. The road show will continue under the theme of export and will also be declined in Marrakech, Agadir and Tangier by the end of 2018.

Freight Exchange slowly but surely! Launched last March by the global logistics hub TMSA and the General Confederation of Enterprises of Morocco (CGEM), the freight exchange, which aims to give a new impetus to Moroccan maritime transport, started its activities smoothly. Hassan Abkari, director of Tangier Med passenger and carters port revealed to us, Thursday, May 10, on the sidelines of the 24th edition of the International Logistics Congress which is taking place since Wednesday in Marrakech: «We have already started the transactions, and we are very happy that this tool serves the community, including Moroccan importers and exporters, but the start is quiet,» he said, before trying to explain the reasons behind the shy start of the digital platform «tmfret.ma», which should allow Moroccan professionals to avoid empty returns and improve their competitiveness, among other benefits.

According to our interlocutor, the start of the Freight Exchange is done little by little because «we require the identification and recognition of all providers who must absolutely meet all the requirements». By «requirements», Hassan Abkari hears «a good real carrier f i le» for exporters and importers, with all components including among others a carrier status, the authorization of the Ministry of Transport on behalf of others, an electronically signed copy of the register, etc. «The identification process is long,» he adds.
