SCHOOL FETE

Congratulations firstly to Samantha

Oldfield and her very dedicated and hard

working PFA team for the wonderful fete

that we all enjoyed last Friday. Thankfully

the weather was kind to us – wet

enough to cool us down, but not too

much to spoil the day!

Just over $6,000 profit was made at the

fete. That is a fine effort and we are very

grateful to our PFA for the work they

put into both organising the fete and its

operation on Friday. Thanks also to our

staff members who so willingly assisted in

a variety of ways on the day.

Our birthday cake was a beauty and it

was hard having it cut up, even though it

tasted delicious. The 20th anniversary

celebrations were a highlight, with Jack

and Ann Kraan, Peter Martin and

Rosemary Wilson-Martin and Peter

Atkinson from our inaugural school

council and PFA were all in attendance. It

was very enjoyable recounting our early

days with the pioneers of our school

during the evening.

Thank you also to everyone who

attended – without you being there the

event would not have been a success.

PROCESSING OF PARENT

REQUESTS

These have now closed and we are

incorporating them into our grade

selection process. We received just over

60 requests from parents with most

being quite reasonable. In a number of

cases, however, parents made up to 3

specific requests within the body of one

request. This is a bit much and while we

appreciate your input, we will not be

able to satisfy requests that have multiple

requests built within them.

ECHOES FROM OUR FIRST 20

YEARS

Ten years ago we celebrated our 10th

anniversary with the burying of a time

capsule in our grounds. The plan is for

the time capsule to be dug up at our

school’s 50th anniversary. It contains a

sample of children’s work, messages

from a number of staff, students and

school councillors and several pieces of

memorabilia. The exact location remains

a public secret for obvious reasons. It

would be interesting to see the reaction

of those who will be digging it up, but I

dare say that for some of us that will not

be a possibility!

FREQUENTLY ASKED

QUESTIONS (FAQ’S)

Q. Do we have a hot day policy?

A. Yes. When the temperature rises

above 38 Celsius we call a hot day time

table. This results in a reduced lunchtime

outside – from 60 minutes to 30 minutes

and the cancellation of outdoor lessons.

ASSI STANT PRINCIPAL’ S REPORT

20TH ANNIVERSARY FETE

Thank you to our hardworking PFA and

the many parent helpers who

contributed towards making our 20th

Anniversary Fete such a success on

Friday evening. Despite the weather

conditions we were pleased to see so

many families enjoying the activities

available. The feedback from the

children indicated that they also felt the

fete was a success.

PARENT HELPERS’ MORING TEA

Invitations to this annual event are being

sent home with the students tomorrow.

The morning tea will be held on Tuesday

15th December at 11:00am in the school

gymnasium. If you have been one of our

wonderful helpers and have missed out

on an invitation we apologise for missing

you. Please feel most welcome to attend

the morning tea.

VICTORIAN SCHOOL OF

LANGUAGES

The Victorian School of Languages have

forwarded us some information about

language courses for 2010.

Established in 1935, the Victorian School

of Languages (VSL) is a Department of

Education complementary provider of

languages to school students across the

state of Victoria. Students from

Government, independent and Catholic

sectors from Years 1 to 12 are eligible to

study languages at the VSL. Teaching

staff are registered with the Victorian

Institute of Teaching and undertake

regular professional development. Over

40 languages are available in more than

40 centres via face to face classes. Ten

languages are also available via distance

learning mode for secondary students.

Interested families can collect an

information sheet from the school office

or visit the website at www.vis.vic.edu.au

CRE CHRISTMAS

CELEBRATIONS

As a culmination to the Christian

Religious Education Program the CRE

staff have arranged to hold a simple

Christmas Celebration for the CRE

students. The Prep to Year 2

celebration will be held on Tuesday 1st

December at 2:15PM. The Year 3 and 4

celebration will take place on

Wednesday 2nd December at 2:15PM.

These sessions will be conducted in the

school gymnasium and parents of CRE

students are welcome to attend.

Students not involved in the CRE

program will have their usual afternoon

program.

BABY NEWS

Congratulations to

Olivia and Brad

Cook on the safe

arrival of their son, William Michael

Cook, on Tuesday 24th November. All

are well and Olivia has indicated that she

is looking forward to bringing William to

visit the staff and the students of Prep O.

RIDING BIKES TO SCHOOL

We have recently noticed a number of

students riding bikes without wearing a

helmet. As it is law that all bike riders

wear a helmet we will be checking that

students are abiding by the law and if

found without a helmet parents will be

contacted to collect the bike or deliver a

helmet. Parents also need to be aware

that recent changes to road laws have

meant an increase in the fines applicable

to this infringement. Please support us

in ensuring that your children are safe.

LYNNE BRENNER & DEBBIE

CUSACK

Back on the 19th August 20 students from Berwick Lodge PS

were a part of the Melbourne Victory 5-a-side schools gala

day match at Lakeside Pakenham. The children had an

outstandingly successful day, winning all of their matches

played! Berwick Lodge Primary School won a place to play at

half time at a Melbourne Victory match at Etihad stadium.

That night is upon us and the following children will be playing

at halftime at Etihad stadium this Saturday 28th November

where Melbourne Victory will be versing Gold Coast United:

Struan 3D, Lilli 3/4L, Stephanie 3D, Nicholas 4R, Rhys 4S, Rylie

4M, Jack 3G, Morgan 4S, Sarah 4S, David 4R, Connor 4M, Mateo

4M, Ben 4S, Lauren 3/4L, Jasper 3SR, Tom 4S, Delaney 4R, Tahlia

3SR, Ethan 4M, and Stuart 4M.

A reminder that these children need to wear their school

yellow top, navy blue shorts, blue socks, runners and shin

guards. They need to be accompanied by their allocated

parent/guardian and meet on the concourse outside Gate 2 at

6pm.

Parents that have ordered extra tickets with Michelle, can

collect their tickets at gate 2 and at 6pm also.

So if your watching the game this weekend, keep your

eyes open for our Berwick Lodge PS football stars

playing at half time!!!!
