Club Mornings

Sunday from 10am

Changing end of MARCH!

February 2017

Exciting Times at the Club

The Club have undergone huge changes recently with a new look

committee being voted in at the A.G.M. and a new coach being

appointed. The Club is continuing to develop and with the onset of

floodlights the decision was made to see what coaching possibilities were

available to the Club.

An advert was posted with the L.T.A.. as Matt Ward’s contract was

finishing. (Matt was asked to re-apply). The Club was very lucky

however to have many coaches applying for the job. One coach stood out

that would be best for Pocklington Tennis Club and that was Sean Evans,

who has been appointed by the Club.

Sean Evans 21yrs, is well known

on the tennis circuit having been a top

100 U.K. ranked player and has spent

the past two years as a tennis

professional on the Algarve in

Portugal. Sean has launched the

Pocklington Tennis Academy. The

Academy has an exciting programme

for both adults and juniors. Two

weeks of tennis coaching is being

offered after the February half term for

both members and non-members of

the club.

These are very exciting times for the Club. The

coaching from a someone of Sean’s calibre can be

used by everyone of all levels and standards. Further

details of the coaching are featured later on the

Academy News page. There is something in the coaching for

everyone and lots of it! Sean can be contacted to discuss your tennis

needs via e-mail [email protected] or phone 07772 151545

We are under attack !

Please remember to tidy up after yourself if you have been using the

Clubhouse. It needs to look smart for any visitors to the Club. Some

visitors maybe potential new members for the Club and we must

create the correct impression for them. It is all of our responsibilities to keep

the whole place smart as it should be. Please take rubbish away if you see the

bin is full.

Thank you

As you will no doubt noticed if you have been down to the Tennis

Club, we are suffering with an anti-social behaviour problem. Youths

are congregating on the decking area whenever the Club is not in use.

They are dropping cigarette ends, sweet and crisp wrappers and

causing damage to the Clubhouse and table etc. They are wrecking

the place slowly and need to be stopped!!

If you are passing the Club and have a couple of minutes to pay

attention, they will run off and hopefully go somewhere else. The

matter has been reported to the Police who are looking into the

issues.

Junior Programme on weekdays and weekend – first 2 sessions of the programme after half term are completely free!!

Much more comprehensive programme available after Easter once it stays light for longer…

After Easter - Clubnight on a Monday 4pm-5:30pm alongside coaching, so players can combine their coaching with match practice and put into practice what they have learnt! Should be a really good buzz around the Academy on a Monday evening.

The current junior programme is on the website pocklingtontennisclub.com or contact Sean on [email protected] or 07772151545 for more information.

Adult Programme: a variety of sessions to suit everybody.

Cardio Tennis, Drills, Beginners/Rusty Racquets, Doubles Tactics, Ladies Morning, Club Night

This is a great opportunity to brush on your skills and learn new ones before the season starts!!

Everyone’s first session is completely free, so please do come down and give it a go!!

This is open to members and non-members. Non-members to pay an extra £2 charge per session

Sean would like to invite all team players to come down and prepare for the upcoming season – which is nearly here!!

If anyone can’t make a particular day/session then please do contact Sean to see if he can accommo-date a different day/session. He is flexible and open to new suggestions if people have ideas of sessions they would like to see at the club

Private Lessons – EVERYONE HAS ACCESS TO A DISCOUNTED PRIVATE SESSION! Sean is offering everyone’s first private session for £15. This is an outstanding offer, so please do take advantage and book in today! Private sessions are then £25 per hour.

For Sean, private sessions are vital for a players improvement, as they get one to one advice on tech-nical, tactical and mental skills, which will help to rapidly take their game to the next level

If more than one person would like a private session together, then they will split the £25 per hour rate, eg, if 2 people had a private lesson together then the cost would be £12.50 each.

With the floodlights on their way, this is a really exciting time for the club, so there is no better time to join Sean and the team down at the academy

Sean will be organising events throughout the year so please do keep an eye on the website for the

latest events!

Below are a few ‘Pointers’ about Sean’s plans for the Academy. If

you have any questions, give him a ring or see him down at the Club

then on, sessions will be £6 per session, on a pay and play basis.

LADIES MORNING - various themes are practiced through a variety of drills (eg, forehands, backhands, volleys), and are then put into practice through different doubles situations and doubles formations. There will then be point-play and match-play where players can practice their new skills. Ladies Morning has a very relaxed feel to it, so come along for some social tennis. CARDIO TENNIS – combines the game of tennis with a workout. Using high-energy drills and situations, players will enjoy this extremely fun and inclusive sport. Music helps to keep players motivated and energised. Song requests are accepted! Age or ability does not matter, it’s about enjoying tennis whilst burning some calories! DRILLS – through a variety of drills, players will get the chance to practice every shot and improve their game. Players will receive technical and tactical advice, which can then be implemented in various game situations. DOUBLES TACTICS – this gives players the chance to hone up on their doubles game before and during the season. By setting up specific doubles situations, players will learn different ways to beat their opponents using the tactics they have acquired. They will then have the chance to put these tactics into practice through match-play. BEGINNERS/RUSTY RACKETS – this session is for players who are new to the game, or have been out of the game for a while and wanting to get back into it. Technical advice will be given to players, to enable them to improve their confidence when hitting the ball. It is hoped that players attending the ‘Beginners’ session will aim towards the ‘Drills’ or Adult Club Night sessions where they can progress their tennis skills further.
