Hello CSC Members and Friends:
Well, the year is halfway over, and Carolina Shag Club is in
full swing at Brass Monkey. I’m sure we’re all thankful that
the bulk of the pandemic scare is behind us and we’re all able
to gather again to dance and socialize with minimum risk.
The Brass Monkey is no longer paying for our DJs, so we’re
continuing to sell 50/50 Split-the-Pot raffle tickets, to help
CSC to pay for their time. We’re continuing to ask that you
purchase at least $5 worth of tickets each night you attend to
help us cover the cost. Let’s try to grow our attendance each
week as we dance every Wednesday!
Meet Me in the Middle is still scheduled and tickets are still
on sale. You can find information about our annual party on
the club’s website. Also, there is a MMIM flyer toward the
end of this newsletter. Don’t miss out on our great party.
Although our club’s membership is healthy, currently at about
220 members, we are still below the number of members in
previous years. If you have a friend who enjoys our club,
please ask them to join. Joining is easy; just visit the CSC
website and join online.
A special thank you goes out to our members for sharing their
time with the campers at Camp Courage. It is a pleasure to be
asked to spend time virtually with the campers and share some
line dancing with them.
I hope that you all have a wonderful July 4th with your family
and friends, celebrating everything wonderful about our
country.

2021 Camp Courage for Kids…Covid Restrictions Format
Limited Volunteers, Face Masks and Social Distancing Whenever Possible Was Required.

Happenings at Camp Courage for spring/summer
2021
2021 Camp Courage was a VIRTUAL camp this
year. It was not held at Pleasant Ridge; instead, it was
‘Zoomed’ into each camper’s home. They are still
being cautious about each camper's health.
Dede was contacted by the Camp Courage director
to find a few people to pack boxes of pre-made
activities for the campers. Carolina Shag Club was
asked to limit the number of people. With Terry
(Gordon) being CSC Charities chair and Dede Ward on
that committee, just the Gordons and Wards went. The
four volunteers worked outside in the heat with masks
on - and lots of bugs hanging around. . Each volunteer
organization that helps with the camps each year was
asked to send a limited number of volunteers.
Virtual Teen Camp will be held the first week in
August and will be a repeat of the virtual Kids Camp.
Camp Courage hopes to return to normal camp
next year with the Carolina Shag Club being invited to
teach, dance, and have dinner with the campers.

If you have questions concerning the board meetings, please contact CSC President Susan Blackwell
or one of the Executive Board Members (they are listed on the first page of the newsletter).
Carolina Shag Club Board Meeting – April 27, 2021

President Susan Blackwell called the April board meeting to order at 6:37 PM. Also in
attendance were Rick Wilson, Gwyn Smith, Wayne Hembree, Alicia Pittman, Jill Woodard,
Becky Wilson, Skip Watkins, Steve Woodard, and Karen Lewis. Due to eight board
members not in attendance, President Blackwell noted that two-thirds of voting board
members were in attendance, therefore, business could be conducted.
II. Approval of Minutes
President Blackwell had Emailed the March 9th minutes to the board members prior to
the meeting tonight for review. Steve Woodard made a motion to accept the March minutes
as presented. Wayne Hembree seconded the motion, and the motion was approved.

Treasurer Wayne Hembree read his report for March to those in attendance. The report
had also been sent to the board via Email prior to the meeting.
Highlights of the report included: Income from Membership and Split-the-Pot totaled
$6,316.62, Expenses for DJ’s, Events, and Website totaled $2,752.33, and Profit was

report is attached.
Steve Woodard made a motion to accept the report. Gwyn Smith seconded the motion,
and the motion passed.
IV. Old Business
• President Blackwell confirmed that the deposit was made, and the contract was signed
for the 2021 Christmas party at the Embassy Suites.
• Rick Wilson reported that the Split-the-Pot income on Wednesday nights is covering
the cost the of the DJ’s each week. Rick also said that the Brass Monkey management
is not interested in helping with the DJ’s.
• Wednesday night Line Dance lessons by Dennis Fleming have been discussed in
previous board meetings. Steve and Jill Woodard have not felt comfortable teaching
at the Brass Monkey, so they have been and will continue to teach at the Spinning
Ginny on Monday nights in Greer. Steve and Jill have also decided to teach the Basic
on alternating Wednesday nights with line dance. Discussion of lessons crossed over
into New Business.
