From The Principal
Dear Parents/Carers
There has been much excitement at Rowville
Primary School during the week. It has been
rather quiet at school! On Monday morning,
our year six, five, four and one students departed with their
teachers and a group of parent volunteers for their Beyond
Boundaries Adventure programs. The year six students
departed for Camp Wilkin. The year five students departed for
Camp Coonawarra. The year four students departed for their
three-day adventure at Rumbug. The year one students
participated in a whole day adventure at Wombat Corner.
Our Beyond Boundaries Program provides students with an opportunity to face new challenges, overcome fears and build on personal strengths. The social benefits of such an experience are always difficult to measure. Many children return with increased confidence and independence as well as a clearer understanding of why we need to co-operate with each other. I hope that they also gain an improved appreciation of their immediate family.
To provide this enriching experience we depend on the generosity of parents, who give willingly of their time to assist with the Beyond Boundaries experience. We are most grateful to Georgia Balourdos, Emma Magdic, Hannah Regan, Lisa Mardale, Viktoria Molnar, Bronwyn Jarvis, Yvette Cassidy, Julie Panzera, John Paduano, Silvia Mellech, Donna Davidson, Lauren Bonnici, Darren Davey, Troy Paas, Camilla Worsnop, Lainie Kruger, Belinda Vaughan, Julie Schul, Tammie Western, Bree Moyle, Tania Challis, Fabiola Perez Reyes, Danny Bruder, Stephen Lakey, Ashley Pritchard, Liz Tsiakmakis, Kim Vancam and Brad Bartlett for their enthusiastic participation. Their contributions were much appreciated. The children enjoyed their attendance and the staff are most appreciative of their invaluable contribution.
To the staff that organised and implemented the Beyond Boundaries Adventure experiences, I say well done. To assume responsibility for a large group of children 24 hours whilst on Beyond Boundaries is significant. Teachers forgo the company of their own families because they appreciate the benefits that flow to their students and themselves from sharing this great learning experience. I extend a collective thank you to our teachers for their investment in their students’ learning.
We will share the stories from the Beyond Boundaries Adventure program in the newsletter next week.
We recently advertised the Assistant Principal position at our school. I am pleased to announce that Ms Tiffany Dempster was the successful applicant and from the beginning of this week is our substantive Assistant Principal. I would like to acknowledge Mr Liam Jury, who acted in the role for the last two terms, decided that he wanted to spend more time with his young family. Mr Jury relished the opportunity to expand his professional skills and I thank him for his hard work and commitment. He will resume his leading teacher role and will be visible in our classrooms.
Ms Dempster brings to our school a passion for Instructional Leadership. I look forward to working with her to make our school even better.

There will be an event on Compass for you to confirm your attendance.
The last Curriculum Day for the year is on Monday 4th December. Please note students do not attend school on this day.
Camp Australia is operating on this day providing sufficient bookings are made. Please book with Camp Australia early to secure your place.

Please make regular checks to ensure your child has all absences and late arrivals to school approved on Compass.
Parents are notified on the top right section of the Compass home page in the news feed if there are late arrivals or absences to be approved. Absences can be entered in advance on Compass by Parents.
Once an absence is entered, there is no need to telephone the school to notify us that your child is absent for the day. Please note, School commences at 8.45am each day. Students arriving after this time will need a late pass from the school office before proceeding to the classroom.
2018 Foundation Enrolments
Rowville Primary School is accepting enrolments for 2018.
Children who turn five by April 30th of the enrolment year are eligible to attend school. When transferring from interstate, overseas or from a local school it is helpful if a written report is available at the time of enrolment.
Enrolment forms are available online or from the office. http://www.rowvilleps.vic.edu.au/index.php/enrolments/enrolment-information
From The Assistant Principal…
It is with great excitement that I write my first article as the new Assistant Principal at Rowville Primary School.
I am passionate about education and providing daily opportunities for all students to experience success in
their personal, social, emotional and academic development. Over the last 16 years, I have worked in a variety
of teaching and educational leadership roles including: classroom teacher, PLT leader, Literacy leader, Leading
Teacher, Acting Assistant Principal and most recently Acting Principal at Sassafras Primary School. I am dedicated to promoting
a positive learning environment where all students feel safe and supported in their learning journey. As part of my role, I will
be dedicating time each day to visit classrooms and share my passion of lifelong learning
with the students of Rowville Primary School.
Our value for this term, ‘pride’ was clearly evident last Friday, where we all came together
for our Remembrance Day ceremony. We were fortunate to have the company of Ryan’s
grandfather John, who spoke to the students about his family’s involvement in the Armed
Forces over a number of generations. We thank John for his attendance for this significant
occasion. Our ceremony concluded with the laying of the wreath by our School Captains,
Ashna and Oscar with Ms Babich.
It was great to witness the enthusiasm the students in 1A had about their writing after their
visit to Wombat Corner on Monday. They started with Wombat Corner as their seed and
their writing grew and grew as they wrote detailed recounts about their personal
experience. Here is a selection from these talented writers…
“I got an arrow into the target. It was so hot that I had to drink lots of water. Last night I
was so hot and the bus was very bumpy. By Ty”
“On the bus I sat at the back of the bus. When we arrived at Wombat Corner I went to the
flying fox and then I did archery. I had to drink so much water. Next I did mini golf. On the
way back I felt bus sick, so I sat at the front of the bus. At night time I felt better, so I did some colouring. By Sienna”
“I came to Wombat Corner on a bus. I had a very fun time. I really wanted to go on the flying fox. Then I went on the flying
fox. It was very hot. I did have fun at archery. I climbed the climbing wall all the way to the top. By Jake”
“In Wombat Corner when we drove there we went past Emerald Lake. It was huge! In Wombat corner at the rock climbing I
went from the ground to a really high height. I was really good at mini golf. The heat was really high and I was trying really
hard with archery. The flying fox was really fast. We went on a scavenger hunt and it was really fun. By Noah”
I look forward to building partnerships with all members of the Rowville Primary School community and working closely with
Anne and the team.
Have a wonderful week.

From the Leading Teacher
Dear Parents/Carers
As I walk around our school I feel very proud to see students writing for many different purposes. One of my favourite things about Rowville Primary School is when students approach me in the yard or when I walk into their classroom and they are eager to share an entry from their Writer’s Notebook. My Writer’s Notebook goes everywhere with me and I use it to stay creative because I love to write.
We are very excited to announce that the Year 2 students were the writer’s chosen to be presented with brand new Writer’s Notebooks. The students were very excited to start writing in them and here are a few thoughts from some of the students:
Leo 2A – “I wrote a story about robbing a bank in my new Writer’s Notebook. I got the idea from my friend Thomas and we wrote it together at lunchtime.”
Gemma 2A – “I was surprised and shocked when we were given our new notebooks.”
Daina 2A – “I chose this notebook because it was pretty and a really good size. I have started writing about things that I love and hate to use in my writing.”
Benjamin 2B – “I felt pretty excited when I got my new Writer’s Notebook.”
Camellia 2B – “I have written a poem about a flower that I found in the playground.”
Jessie 2C – “I chose this Writer’s Notebook because I love animals.”
Vivienne 2C – “I felt so happy when we got given these new notebooks.”
Lachie 2C – “I felt pumped when I got my new notebook. I went home and wrote in it straight away.”
I look forward to seeing more Writer’s Notebook entries over the coming weeks.
Have a wonderful week ahead.

Head Lice
A reminder to parents to regularly check your children's hair for eggs and live head lice. The Department of Health’s recommendations are as follows:
The easiest and most effective way to find head lice is to use conditioner and comb weekly to check for head lice and if detected treat with a commercial treatment available from pharmacies. This includes: Step 1. Comb hair conditioner onto dry, brushed (detangled) hair. This makes it difficult for lice to grip the hair or run around.
Step 2. Thoroughly comb sections of the hair with a fine tooth head lice comb.
Step 3. Wipe the conditioner from the comb onto a paper towel or tissue.
Step 4. Look on the tissue and on the comb for lice and eggs.
Step 5. Repeat the combing for every part of the head at least four or five times.
Step 6. If lice or eggs are found, the person should be treated.
Step 7. Retreat hair in seven days or follow instructions on the packaging of the treatment or from your health care professional
Step 8. Notify the teacher of school office confidentially if head lice is detected.

New Sign in/out process
As some parents may know, our service now has a tablet. This tablet is our new way of signing in and signing out our children with Camp Australia’s new program called ‘One Child’. Currently we are still using paper rolls as a safety precaution whilst everyone gets used to using our tablet.
Please allow extra time to allow me to show you how to use the new tablet and new signing in and out process. Please note that we will be using paper rolls as well (so parents will be signing in twice for each session) just as a safety precaution.
We appreciate your patience during this transition of signing in/out process.
A note from Brodie
Our tAF (The Camp Australia Foundation) activity has started for this term! We are supporting education in Nepal as in 2015 Nepal suffered from a huge earthquake which destroyed 83% of schools in Nepal. Camp Australia services across Australia are all contributing one page of all about Australia that will be made into a book to send to schools and children in Nepal. Our books that we will be make will help bring education to the children in Nepal who are currently missing out on education due to the earthquake.
We’re here to make after school care visits the best experience possible – for you and your child.
If you have any questions about the program – please feel free to drop by, meet the team and see what happens in after school care first hand.
We look forward to seeing you soon.
The Camp Australia Team.
