DET International CRICOS Code - 00861K

From The Principal…

Dear Parents/Carers

The 2017 Swimming team was announced at the

Monday morning assembly and presented with

their swimming caps. The Rowville Primary

School Swimming Team is competing in the

Rowville District Swimming Championships on Thursday 23rd

February. Lead by our Captains: Zitian, Cameron, Stella and Charlize

the team have been training at 7.00am at Paul Sadler Swimland. I

acknowledge Mrs Sue Macdonald, Mr Liz Altmeppen, Ms Emily

Biggins and Mr Sean Woodward for leading the training. We all wish

the team well when they participate at the Monash Aquatic Centre

tomorrow.

Snapshot: 2017 Swim Team

I recently spoke about our school value of respect to our students at

assembly. This value underpins everything in our school and

community. Respect goes a long way in developing a harmonious

home, work and social environment. Communication is clear and

appropriate among individuals who respect each other. If a person is

respectful, it shows that they have a positive attitude. A person who

is courteous, listens to others and treats people fairly is respectful.

People who show respect for others often gain respect in return.

Respect is needed in the modern world to foster peace and kindness

between all people. Partners who respect each other in relationships

are much happier than those who do not. A child who respects the

requests of his parents shows good character and obedience. Elderly

people in nearly every culture command respect.

This week I asked several members of our student parliament the

question, how do you earn respect?

You earn respect by being a good person. Someone who

does the right thing at all times and is kind and

wholehearted in everything that they do.

Chris 6A Opposition Minister of ICT

If you want to be respected

you need to be an honest

and loyal person. You need

to say kind things about

others at all times.

Rodrigo 5A Opposition

Minister of Health and

Wellbeing

If someone is talking, you

need to listen to what they

are saying without

interrupting. You give

kindness to other people

and they give it back.

Sophie 6 Government

Minister of Environment

and Kitchen

When someone is doing the wrong thing then you need

to be brave enough and speak up.

Jessica 6C, Opposition Minister of Year one

When you help others without expecting anything in return

is how you earn respect. You do what the teacher,

parent or elder tells you to do without arguing.

Simone 6A Government Minister of Year Six

Yesterday I received official confirmation that Mr Stuart Boyle, our

Assistant Principal, has been invited to fill a short term Principal

vacancy at Belgrave South. This is a fabulous opportunity for Mr

Boyle and wonderful recognition of the quality of leaders that

Rowville Primary School develops. Mr Boyle commences his six week

placement on Monday. Mr Liam Jury will be Acting Assistant Principal

during his absence.

“Calling all Green

Thumbs”

We are looking at ways to get the students more involved in growing food for our kitchen program. We are looking at propagation of seedlings rather than buying them, where possible. This is where we need your help! We are hoping that families will donate a packet of seeds or send along seeds that you have collected from your own home vegetable and herb patches (please package and name).

As our menu in the Stephanie Alexander kitchen program is also based around our Italian language learning, we would like seed types that would grow produce that is used in Italian cooking. Also if families have any used seedling containers (washed) or spare potting mix to donate they would be greatly appreciated. We look forward to your support with this initiative.

Chickenpox,

Shingles, Measles,

Mumps &

Slapped Cheek

We wish to advise families at Rowville Primary School, that a parent and two students in our school community are currently receiving medical treatment and as such have a suppressed immune system.

A major concern is if this parent or student develops Measles, Chickenpox, Shingles or Slapped Cheek, they can become seriously ill.

We seek your cooperation in preventing this situation.

If your son/daughter has or may have measles, mumps, chickenpox or slapped cheek it is requested that you do not send them to school during this period and notify the school office immediately.

Children with Chickenpox must not attend school and need

to remain at home until all blisters have dried which is

usually at least 5 days after the rash appears. Children with

Measles must not attend school and need to remain home

for at least 4 days after the rash appears.
