Dear Little Chapel family, "It's just one thing after another?" Have you ever made that comment before? Have you ever felt that you had "so much on your plate" that it seemed like one thing after another kept coming at you? Has it ever occurred to you that those first disciples of Jesus probably said or that thought those very words, or something similar in the course of their few years with him? We who are at a safe distance know the full story of Jesus' life, but we still cannot really know what it must have been like to be around him on a daily basis like the original disciples were. First of all, to come into contact with the man, to be called by him, to be enthralled with him as a person. Then struck by his teaching - teaching that was new, dynamic and powerful. And how do you think they would have coped with his miracles? Not one, but many, perhaps many more than the many we know about. And who can imagine how the disciples first sensed trouble, suspected all was not well, and heard his ominous words about his coming death? I am sure they found it impossible to believe what they were hearing from those who wanted to do away with Jesus. Then the ghastly death on the Cross ruined it all, ended it all. If it was "one thing after another," that was the limit. But that wasn't all there was. The was still one more thing...the Resurrection! All this happening to them within a few years, makes it easy to believe that the disciples might well have said, "It's just one thing after another?" If "one thing after another" in life with Christ was for those first disciples an ultimately enormous challenge to their spirit, it is no less for us. Forgetting God due to our very busy lives is just as easy for us to do as it was for those early followers. It is easy to forget. There might even be times when it is easier to forget about God than to remember him. And maybe even more so when there is constantly "one thing after another." As we approach the Easter season, let's attempt to put God at the top of our "one thing after another" list. PALM SUNDAY PROCESSION AND CELEBRATION

We are going to try something a little different this year for our Palm Sunday Celebration at the 10:30AM worship service. Just as Holy Week began with Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem 2000 years ago, so we will begin our Palm Sunday Celebration with a joyful procession - weather permitting! All those who are able are asked to gather at 10:25AM at the end of Fayetteville Street, near Banks Channel, where bulletins and palms will be distributed. A brief blessing of the palms and prayer will be given and then we will process from the Channel to the front door of the Church singing a simple refrain led by the Choirs and Pastor Pat. The Procession will continue into the sanctuary with the singing of “All Glory Laud and Honor.” Soloist will be in place to sing the verses, and the refrain will be sung by the congregation and those in the procession. All those processing will car-ry a palm. If you are unable to process, simply go to the sanctu-ary as usual and wait for the procession. Ushers will be on hand to pass out bulletins and palms and to help with seating.

MAUNDY THURSDAY TENEBRAE SERVICE

On Maundy Thursday at 7:00PM, Pastor Pat and the Chancel Choir will present the moving “Service of Darkness” also known as “Tenebrae.” The service of Tenebrae follows a tradition of the church dating back to the eighth century. From Latin, the word Ten-ebrae means “darkness” and commemorates the final hours of our Lord’s life on earth. Readings and music are interspersed by the symbolic extinguishing of can-dles which symbolize the fading loyalty of the follow-ers of Jesus.

PASSION CHANTED ON GOOD FRIDAY

Please join us for a very special rendition of our Lord’s Passion on Good Friday at 12 noon. The Gos-

pel according to John 18:1-19:42 will be chanted (sung acapella) by Carolyn Wetherington, Robin Wetherington and Angela Daughtry; their voices rep-resenting crowd, Jesus and narrator, respectively. The Gospel is sung without interruption, except for a pause at the moment Jesus gives up His spirit. The sanctuary will be mainly dark with a few candles for a contemplative experience.

EASTER SEASON CHANCEL CHOIR

The Chancel Choir welcomes additional singers to join us for the Easter Season. Rehearsals are held each Thursday night at 7:00PM in the choir room. Come join the fun and fellowship! The Chancel Choir is a great way for you to express your faith and share your talents with the congregation. If you are interested in singing, please see David.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT ON THE BOARDWALK TALENT NIGHT

Dust off your “act” and mark your calendar for this years’ Talent Show to be held on Wednesday, May 18

in the sanctuary. Hosted again by David Heinzman, this promises to be another fun night that always brings out the hidden talents (and hams) of LCOB. The Show begins at 7:00PM, proceeded by a pizza and salad dinner from 6-6:45PM. Sign-up sheets – one for dinner and one for talent will be in the nar-thex.

MUSIC FELLOWSHIP DINNER There will be NO Music Fellowship Dinner in March due to Holy Week, but we will resume our fellowship night on April 28, 2016. If you are in the Chancel Choir or Bell Choir, then bring your spouse and join us for Music Fellowship Dinner. In April we will meet at the King Neptune at 6:00PM, followed by Chancel Choir rehearsal at 7:30PM at the church.

REHEARSAL NOTES There will be NO Handbell or Chancel Choir rehears-als on Tuesday, March 29 or Thursday, March 31.

Did you know... 1 in 3 families in America struggles to afford diapers for their children. Many parents have to choose between buying food or diapers. North Carolina has 26 percent of its children living be-low the poverty line. A rarely mentioned consequence of this poverty are the babies that go without an ade-quate supply of clean diapers.

The Children of Little Chapel Need Your Help!

We are hosting a diaper drive for the North Carolina Diaper Bank, Lower Cape Fear Chapter as our Lenten Mission Project this year. Please place your donations

of disposable diapers in the crib in the narthex. Contact Mary Brooks with questions.

Make a Joyful Noise! The Children are participating in the 10:30AM Worship service on Palm Sunday by processing, waving palms and singing for God and the congregation. All children are encourage to attend our practice times at 9:15AM each Sunday before Sunday School.

Easter will be here before you know it! We are currently collecting candy, toys and trinkets through Palm Sunday to fill our plastic eggs for our an-nual Easter Egg Hunt! Please place your donations in the baskets in the narthex. Then join us for pizza and filling the eggs after our 10:30AM service on Palm Sun-day, March 20. Everyone is invited!

LITTLE CHAPEL PRESCHOOL

The school year will be ending in a few months but it’s not too early now to start thinking and planning the 2016-2017 school year for your preschool children. Little Chapel on the Boardwalk offers a Christian based Preschool program that focuses on age appro-priate activities designed to target all aspects of early childhood development. Classroom materials assist with a child’s development, concentration, coordina-tion, and fine motor skills to prepare them for kinder-garten and more advanced activities in the classroom and beyond. The Little Chapel Preschool year runs concurrently with the New Hanover County school schedule. Little Chapel Preschool students gain an early enthusi-asm for learning when introduced to daily fun-filled lessons and activities that incorporate structure and freedom. Applications are now being accepted for the morning half-day program for children ages 3 – 4 with the option for attending either 3 or 5 days a week. For more information about the Little Chapel on the Boardwalk Preschool, please call Angela McConnell, Director, at (910) 256-2819 ext. 104 or email [email protected].

Presbyterian Counseling Center

CENTERPOINT “Should I keep coming for counseling?” a woman re-cently asked me. I agreed that she had mostly resolved the difficult concern that prompted her to begin meet-ings. I also shared with her that the deeper object of counseling is not simply about solving problems. It is about broadening one’s self-understanding. Can we ever reach the end of discovering everything about ourselves? Daily life overflows with countless distractions. Strong emotions snare us. We easily overlook how God cre-ates us and delights in us. But we don’t need to lose our way. In wonder and thanks we may focus on what God is doing within us. We may embrace our uniqueness with deepening curiosity. “Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvel-ous – how well I know it.” (Psalm 139:14) Anyone will benefit from the self-exploration counsel-ing offers! Call the Center at 910-452-7370, and visit at www.presbyteriancounselingcenter.org

COMMUNICATION COMMITTEE

Are you computer savvy?

Would you like to put your computer knowledge to work for

Little Chapel?

The Communication Committee is looking for a few volunteers!

First and foremost, Little Chapel’s website is in need of a complete makeover. After it is updated, we will need someone to manage, update and regularly maintain the site. We also need someone who would like to help with inter-nal communications, gathering information about events and taking photos within the church as well as someone to manage external communications, getting info to and from the community. Little Chapel has a wonderful congregation and lots of great events and missions that we want to share with those in our community. Let’s let everyone know that we are the Little Chapel with the big heart.! To do this we need some help. If you have computer knowledge, communications skills, a marketing back-ground or just know how to take a picture - communica-tions is the committee for you. All talents are welcome! Please see the sign up sheet in the narthex or call Gene Auvil, Communication’s Chairperson, 910-231-4621, he would love to hear from you.

FOR THE WEEK OF:

Meals of Love program is designed to benefit family members and visitors to the Wilmington Hospice Care Cen-ter. Many times these families are exhausted physically and mentally and preparing a meal is the last thing on their mind. So volunteers help support them by providing a meal in our family kitchen at the Care Center. The Little Chapel Mission Committee has decided to take care of these meals four times a year. Our first date to prepare a dinner meal for this year is Tuesday, March 29, 2016. There will be signup sheets in the narthex soon. We look for-ward to your helping with this wonderful mission opportunity.

Little Chapel's tradition of participating in One Great Hour of Sharing continues Easter Sunday. Around the world, people lack access to food, clean water, sanita-tion, education, and opportunity. Each gift to One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS) serves to help change the lives of people in these challenging situations. The Offering provides us a way to share God's love with our neighbors in need. OGHS makes a difference in the world through three impactful programs. (1) Presbyterian Disaster Assistance works within com-

munities as they recover and find hope after the devastation of natural or human-caused disasters.

(2) The Presbyterian Hunger Program takes action to alleviate hunger and its systemic causes, and helps create access to healthy food.

(3) Self-Development of People partners with people and communities with tools for development and education to alleviate poverty, oppression, and in-justice.

One-half of the money collected will be given to Good Shepherd Ministries of Wilmington whose purpose is to plan, develop and maintain an ecumenical and social ministry to meet the needs of hungry, homeless and jobless in our community.

Please think of our neighbors and their needs on Easter Sunday.

Thank you!

Dear Little Chapel, Your Friendship, love and support were very helpful to me during my recent surgery. The flowers brought to my home by Bryan and Margaret McIntyre were both beautiful and appreciated. Thank you also to the flower committee for making them so attractive. Unfortunately, the surgery was much more painful than the Doctors predicted, therefore your many acts of kindness and love were even more meaningful.

Loving Thanks, Nancy Cosby

Dear Pastor Pat and the Little Chapel Family, Thank you very much for all your kind thoughts, pray-ers and cards. It meant a lot to Pat and I to know that you were thinking of us throughout my surgery at Duke .. And during my recovery. I’m very well with lots of walking and moving around. Hope to be back at full speed in about a month...spring is coming! Thank you again for your special consideration.

I wish you all the best and warmest regards. John Hatcher

CHURCH WOMEN UNITED

The Church Women United

World Day of Prayer Worship Service

will be held on

FRIDAY MARCH 4, 2016

at St. Therese Catholic Church,

209 South Lumina Avenue Registration is at 10:00AM

followed by the worship service at 10:30AM.

World Day of Prayer (WDP) is a worldwide ecumenical movement of people of many faith traditions who come together to observe a common day of prayer each year on the first Friday in March. Throughout the day, we collec-tively pray all over the world, beginning with the first sun-rise in the Pacific region and following the sun’s path around the globe.

The worship service, prepared by the WDP Committee of Cuba, calls us to consider these words: Receive Children, Receive Me. The women of Cuba share their stories of in-tergenerational wisdom, traditions and experiences of God’s profound love and acceptance. We will learn how Jesus responds to his disciples when the little children come to him, exploring Jesus’ adoring and passionate ac-ceptance of the children, saying: “Let the little children come to me, do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs” (Mark 10:14-15).

As we listen to the women of Cuba throughout the wor-ship service, we are invited to seek Jesus with childlikeness and boldness. We are challenged and encouraged to whol-ly receive others, as Jesus calls us, into the kingdom of God.

The monthly CWU Bible Study on “Christian Citizen-ship 101”, an exploration of the book of Philippians, will be held Friday, March 18 at Wesley Memorial UMC, 1401 S. College Road from 10:00AM until Noon. The study on Being of One Mind will be led by Leola Coston.

For additional information about these Church Women United events, please call Jean Northrop, 910.686.5376.

PRAYER & SHARE Every Tuesday morning a small group of ladies and Pastor Pat gather in room 102 for a time of Prayer and Share. The

group goes over the prayer list that is in your bulletin each Sunday and shares with one another any updates they might have on an individual. Then there is a time of pray-er for those persons who have been mentioned that day and any other prayer requests that had been made. Then there is a devotion and then everyone goes home. The time together usually lasts about an hour. This is not a closed group. It is open to anyone who would like to come and spend time with us. If you are interested or have any questions contact Pastor Pat.

EASTER DECORATING On Good Friday, after the Noon service, the Lily Cross will go up in the sanctuary. Please make plans to stay after the service and help move and decorate the cross for Easter Sunday. Then on Tuesday, March 29 at 9:00AM the Cross will come down and we will need your help to move the cross and pack the lilies away.

Join us for lunch

on March 11, 2016

at noon.

Come join us for good food with great friends at: Jackson’s Big Oak Barbecue

920 S. Kerr Avenue Wilmington

Hope to see you there!

For more information, please contact Linda Shahaltough (794-5280).

SALVATION ARMY FOOD OF

THE MONTH:

Peanut Butter and Jelly

Mercy me! This is a short phrase I've heard sometimes in response to surprising news. In looking over the Seventh lesson in our Come to the Waters Bible study, I was reminded of these words. I began to wonder what it really means. Is it a reaction to a surprise? Or is it a short prayer asking for forgiveness? During our season of Lent, we may be reflecting on what happened on that terrible day we now call Good Friday. I've always wondered why we call it that. What is so good about what happened that day? In thinking about those events, I remembered Jesus' last words. They were all about forgiveness. He looked down from the cross into the eyes of those who were killing him and asked God to forgive them! Could I do that? Maybe if I had forgiveness in my heart, if I knew that I was forgiven I could! How do I know? I think about the terrible event in a Charleston SC church last year and the astounding and graceful mes-sage of forgiveness the families of those killed sent out to the world. They had forgiveness in their hearts and needed to share it with all of us, not just the one who pulled the trigger. And there it is - Grace. When I think about Grace I see the cleansing waters that remove all the dirt in our lives and our hearts.

Mercy me, we are forgiven! Dru

OLDER ADULT MINISTRY

LUNCHEON NEW MINISTRY at Little Chapel on the Boardwalk has a name. On Wednesday, February 17 a group of 64 “older youth”

gathered for its inaugural luncheon. David provided his own special style of music, while Jean Schild and Pat Rabun greeted everyone for a social time of gab and punch. Meanwhile, Iris Davis and Di-ane Torgersen were making sure everything was ready for a delicious catered lunch by Middle of the Island – delicious as always. Great food and fellowship was en-joyed by all. Our hostesses, Helen Swartz and Brenda Parker made sure everyone had a comfortable place to sit and Iris Davis lent her flare for decorating to make sure every-one felt like they were eating in a nice restaurant and not a cold fellowship hall. We laughed at ourselves as we heard short stories about the perils of growing older. Then to top off our time together, we were sere-naded by the harmonies of a quar-tet from The Chordsmen. Finally, we voted on what the group shall be know as. If you are a Boomer, Genera-tion or Elder, you are now part of the Just Older Youth Group at Little Chapel or “JOY” group. Surveys were completed and a steering group is under-way to bring this JOY group the activities they have re-quested. We have so many things we want to do – it is obvious that our aging spirits are still soaring – we should be having fun together for years to come.

Please watch the monthly news-letter to keep up with all that will be going on in the JOY group. If you have comments or sugges-tions, please contact Iris Davis at 910-520-3222. One last note, we all realized that we suffer from A.A.A.D.D.; Age Activated Attention Deficit Dis-order. Please read the following

symptoms and see if you too suffer --- This is how it goes: I decided to wash the car; I started to-ward the garage and notice the mail on the table. OK, I'm go-ing to wash the car. But first I'm going through the mail. I lay the car keys down on the desk, discard the advertising mail and I notice the trash can is full. OK, I'll just put the bills on my desk and take the trash can out, but since I'm going to be near the mailbox anyway, I'll pay these few bills first. Now, where is my checkbook? Oops, there's only one check left. My extra checks are in my desk. Oh, there's the coke I was drinking. I'm going to look for those checks. But first I need to put my coke further away from the computer, oh maybe I'll pop it into the fridge to keep if cold for a while. I head towards the kitchen and my flowers catch my eye, they need some water. I set the coke on the counter and ooh oh! There are my glasses. I was looking for them all morning! I'd better put them away first. I fill a container with water and head for the flower pots --- Aaaaaagh! Someone left the TV remote in the kitchen. We'll never think to look in the kitchen tonight when we want to watch television so I'd better put it back in the family room where it belongs. I splash some water into the pots and onto the floor, I throw the remote onto a soft cushion on the sofa and I head back down the hall trying to figure our what it was I was going to do? End of Day: The car isn't washed. The bills are unpaid, the coke is sitting on the kitchen counter, the flowers are half watered, the checkbook still only has one check in it and I can't seem to find my car keys! When I try to

figure out how come nothing got done today. I'm baffled because I KNOW I WAS BUSY ALL DAY LONG!!! I realize this is a serious condition and I'll get help, BUT FIRST I think I'll check my e-mail.....

The JOY Group invites all those who are looking for fellowship activities, physical activities or mental stimu-lation with other retirees, to join this group. The lunch-eon was lots of fun and the response for more activi-ties was overwhelming! The steering committee is moving forward planning activities with you in mind - so be on the look out for upcoming events!

VISITATION MINISTRY

Thank you to all those who make it part of their ministry here at LCOB to visit.

Visiting the sick, shut-ins and homebound is such a vital part of who we are as a church family. Please remember that visiting does not happen just at the hospitals. We have members at Brightmore, Brookdale Brunswick Cove and New Hanover House. We have members that are not able to get out of their homes much and would love a visit. Don’t let them think that because they are out of sight—they are out of mind. If we have fresh flowers and if you would be willing to take some with you when you visit – please let Martha know by calling the church office on Tuesday morn-ing. If you have any questions about the visitation min-istry, please feel free to call Marcia Rabun at 256-2563. The 2016 sign up sheet is available in the narthex and your help is needed to carry God’s love into the com-munity. Blessings—Congregational Life

MATTHEW HOUSE

For the past three years adult and youth groups have stayed at the Matthew House, while participat-ing in mission work in southeast NC. In an effort to encourage more groups to stay at the Matthew House, we are asking for your help, just as we did when the Matthew House opened.

Packets promoting the Matthew House are on the small table in the narthex. They include a cover let-ter from Pat, a flyer with pictures of the house, and a brochure about our connection with WARM and Habitat for Humanity. If you know of any youth directors/mission directors/pastors from other churches (perhaps one you attended before moving here), will you be willing to send our packet(s) to them? All you have to do is write the address and we’ll send them. Your participation will help spread the word that the Little Chapel with the Big Heart has a mission house waiting for groups to come to Wrightsville Beach, so that they can help build new homes and/or refurbish substandard homes to

make them safe. Thanks for your help!

KNITTERS &

CROCHETERS

Feeling creative? Want to be involved in missions? Enjoy fellowship? You should join the LCOB Knit-ters and Crocheters who meet in the parlor on the first and third Wednesdays of each month at 9:30AM. We continue to work on scarves, hats, mittens, lap robes, prayer shawls, and baby blan-kets. No experience is required and lessons are free and lovingly given.
