Salvation Army Angel Tree

Share the joy of Christ's birth by adopting an Angel of your own!

Today is the last day to return Angel Tree gifts to the Narthex! Thank you for supporting local families through

donations to the Salvation Army!

Merry Christmas, Church Family! We are a family of faith. In the Narthex, the Deacons have provided a folding screen where, with one Christmas card, you can greet your entire church family. This is an opportunity to save your time, money and the Earth’s resources. Bring your own card OR choose one from an assortment available at our table in the Narthex on Sunday mornings until Dec. 23. Please donate the amount of money, large or small, that you might have spent on cards for your church family. Checks can be made out to FPCP with “Deacons’ Christmas Cards” on the memo line. This project helps the Deacons raise funds for some of the good causes we support, such as College Care gift cards, Local Mission, and Food and Fellowship events. You may leave your cards in the folder on the screen, or with Stu Dodge, Church Business Manager. Thank you from the Deacons and your church family!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year….

...to shop, volunteer and donate to the FPCP Thrift Shop! Sales have been brisk, and in the spirit of the season, we have added Friday Hours through December 21, from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm. Come find that special gift, decoration or new table setting and support Mission Work at FPCP at the same time! If you’d like to volunteer, contact Linda Luke or Ted or Lynne Porter, who can be found in your FPCP Directory.

News & Announcements

Did you know? The Session of FPCP is made up of 10 Committees. Each Committee has one - three elders serving on that committee. If you have a question or would like to know how to serve, please contact one of the elders. (Contact information can be found in your 2019 Church Directory.) Building & Grounds: Wayne Krupin & Rich Felcher Christian Nurture: Brian Detter, Amy D’Urso & Amy Marmaduke Communications: Bill Harsha Finance: Lou Maceratini, Steve Renaldi & Paul Schmidt Human Resources: Barbara Bullotta, Kendra Hollingsworth & Jeff Stoner Local Mission: Johanna Kissel, Martha Boeve & Kim Heldmeyer NIMC (National/International Mission): Kathy Bernard & Curt Rager Membership: Charles Evans Stewardship: Doug Heasley Worship: Gwyn Jones & Teri Stonerook Membership Committee

The Membership committee coordinates New Member classes, follows through with visitor contact and welcome. They provide church activity information to prospective New Members and publicize church activities and events. Maintenance of the church database is also a responsibility of the Membership Committee.

Stewardship Committee Stewardship is one way of saying “thank you” to God while supporting the ministries of the church. It is a form of discipleship that enables meeting the needs of our church families, as well as those of the visitors and other friends who enter our doors every week. These needs include the desire to hear reminders of God’s love; reaching out in Mission; providing faith nurture for our children; and belonging to a living community of faith.

Worship Committee The purpose of the Worship Committee is to support the worship experience in the Sanctuary and Upper Room through the coordination of clergy, music, Communion, ushers, service support, flowers and decorations and through the management of the Memorial Fund. We greatly appreciate the guidance of our ministers, music directors and support as well as the consistent and faithful contributions of our congregation.

Recycle, Reuse & Rejoice . . .

Some wrapping paper can be recycled. The wrapping paper that cannot be recycled is glossy foil, even if it has just a small amount of foil in it. The reason being that the paper dissolves during the recycling process, but the foil remains in threads that gum up the machines. Remember, the Sunday comics are always a good resource and are nostalgic to boot. Newspaper is always recyclable. Tissue paper cannot be recycled because the paper fibers are too short. Ribbon and bows also cannot be recycled. Real Christmas trees can be put out at the curb as is,

without a bag. The boughs can be useful as mulch in your own backyard. Poinsettias usually will continue to grow long after Christmas or can be put out with your Christmas tree. Please help your trash collectors by following these guidelines when putting your trash out to the curb.

Presbyterians for Earth Care Christmas Lights: Recycling

When those bulbs don’t work, or the string is frayed, the color’s wrong, or it’s time to replace: Don’t toss those old strings of lights! Bring them to church on Sunday. We’ll collect them and drop them off for recycling. This offer extends through and including Sunday, December 23.

Congratulations to Amy Marmaduke, the 2018 recipient of the Carol Dodge Award. There's no denying Amy's love for her church and our youth programs. She is currently serving as an Elder on the Christian Nurture Committee, has served as a Deacon, volunteers in the Sunday School program, with the youth groups, Vacation Bible School, Children's choir and in the nursery. She is a Bible study leader for one of the Wednesday morning women's groups, volunteers at the Thrift shop and has been a hostess for many Festival of Tables evenings. She also has been the pianist and has assisted in worship in the Upper Room. Amy consistently and unselfishly gives of herself through the gifts she shares with others. One of her greatest

gifts is her ability to reach out to others. With warmth and love she has invited many people to join First

Presbyterian Church and participate in this place that she loves.
