D E A C O N ’ S M I N I S T RYYou have an opportunity to be Christ’s Hands and Feet through Communion Preparation...

“I am the bread of life. Your ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, yet they died. But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which anyone may eat and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.” John 6:48-51 NSV

Jesus, when he was at his final meal with his disciples instituted the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper as a remembrance and offering of thanksgiving for God’s grace made complete in His life, death and resurrection. How powerful a message! And how humbling to get to participate in this sacred ritual started by our Lord Jesus, providing an opportunity to come as you are and become one in the body of Christ. Would you like to serve others by helping prepare the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper, an important sacred ritual in the life of the church?

Communion preparation is a truly humbling opportunity and a way to quietly serve those around you. How can you help? We are in need of 1-2 volunteers each month on the weekend of the first Sunday to volunteer a couple of hours of their time. On the Saturday before the first Sunday, 1-2 volunteers gather at Grace for about 30 minutes to an hour to cut up the bread and put out the communion elements. On the first Sunday, 30 minutes prior to the service, volunteers fill the bread trays and juice cups and set them on the altar. After the service, volunteers pick up the trays, clean up and put them away. So who can do this? Anyone! This opportunity is flexible and requires no extra prep, just come as you are and meet other GPC members. If you are interested in this opportunity or other Deacons’ Ministries, email [email protected] or talk to one of the Deacons. Hope to serve with you!

5 T H S U N D AY F E L L O W S H I P • S U N , S E P T 2 9 Mark your calendars! Combined worship at 10 am this day and a potluck fellowship afterwards in the Fellowship Hall. Bring a main dish, side dish or dessert to share! Great opportunity to bring a friend and to get to know new people in the church.

Y O U R M I S S I O N F U N D S AT W O R K !The mission endowment fund of Grace Presbyterian Church continues to support local community efforts with the recent approval of funds for the Body of Christ Community Clinic. This clinic, established in 2010, has a mission “to carry out the compassionate healing ministry of Christ by providing personalized, quality health services to the medically underserved….” In addition to providing primary care, they also provide specialized diabetes care, mental health services, dental care, and spiritual support to residents of East Bell County.

One of the biggest unmet health care needs in our community is dental care, which can be prohibitively expensive for the uninsured and working poor. The Body of Christ dental clinic is the ONLY place in Bell County where residents can receive free dental care, a much needed service in this population. The $5000 grant from GPC will help buy much needed equipment and supplies, and help bring smiles back to those being served!

LIVING WATERS FUNDRAISERwas a huge success!

If you missed it, all had an incredible time at the Dessert Auction!

Joey Tabarlet was the auctioneer and lots of sweet treats went up on the block. The final tally was $5,860.00 raised for the Living Waters for the World project. We are well on our way to completely funding our first water system in Guatemala next spring. A special thanks to Sandy Mason and Janice Smith and the entire mission committee for all the work that went into the lunch and auction. These monies will certainly have an impact as they will provide clean water for an entire community.
