This week more news and Views and bids Grants and funds in conjunction with our sponsors KPI

Ok what a week well lots going on so here we go just back from the Great Asian Apprenticeship
Awards in Birmingham. There is just so much to say about this but great pictures and details of

Seeing many people in the industry known for many years and many new people so thank all of you.

Wednesday I was very pleased to be involved with the Leonard Cheshire Event at the Houses of
Parliament when Lord Shinkwin introduced forward plans for the

Our strategy 2017 — 2022 In March 2017, we agreed our new strategy of ‘Supporting Journeys
towards Independence’. It provides a renewed and unifying purpose for all of us.
Staff, volunteers and supporters, working together with the people we serve, will use the new
strategy to drive everything we do, from daily activities to large multi-year initiatives.
In delivering our strategy we have three priorities:
1. Support through community We will support people living with disability as they choose how to
live, learn and work in their communities. Our ambition will be achieved by pursuit of three themes:
• Live Supporting individuals to live life as they decide whether independently, in a modern
assisted living or residential care setting, with easy access to local shops and leisure
activities, getting involved in their community however they wish, and being in control of the
support they receive.
• Learn Supporting children with disability into education in Asia and Africa, and young people
with disability everywhere as they acquire confidence from volunteering experiences and IT
skills.

• Work Supporting adults with disability as they develop their chosen careers through
education, work experience and internship opportunities, and in progressing into
employment or entrepreneurship.
2. Impact through partnership We will grow our impact through effective partnerships with
organisations that share our values and aims. This includes businesses, not-for-profits, DPOs,
governments and global agencies.
3. Influence through insight We will use insight from those we serve, research findings and
innovative programmes to influence positive change for people living with disability around the
world. Leonard Cheshire exists to improve life choices of people with disability.
Ok Lots of ESFA News the Education and Skills Funding Agency is clamping down on employers
who fail to pay the 10 per cent co-investment fee for apprentices, by withholding completion
payments from providers. A change to a calculation in the agency’s funding software will enforce
the new rule from early next month, which will see nearly 20 per cent of the total apprenticeship
cash held back until employer payments are up-to-date.
It means that up to £4,860 of ESFA funding, 90 per cent of £5,400, would be withheld if the
apprenticeship price is at the highest upper funding band of £27,000, for example.

No news on the change to 5% yet maybe April.
Fears are growing over the creation of a postcode lottery for adult learners, leading one devolved
area to seek special treatment from the Department for Education, FE Week can reveal. From
August 2019, more than £600 million of the £1.5 billion adult education budget will be devolved to
the seven mayoral combined authorities. However, these authorities will only be able to fund
students who live within their boundaries.
Guidance on AEB devolution, published last month, confirms there will be “no direct reciprocal
agreements between the Education and Skills Funding Agency and any mayoral combined authority
or Greater London Authority arrangements to fund residents who travel to learn across boundaries
from devolved areas to non devolved areas, or vice versa”.
This change could have a big impact on the number of learners accepted by colleges inside the seven
devolved areas – Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, Greater Manchester, Liverpool City, Sheffield
City, Tees Valley, West Midlands and the West of England – and London, as well as the institutions

EPA Practise & Prepare: These online resource packages includes practise materials to support
learners practising for the End-point assessment (EPA) at the end of their programme of
learning. These resources are available both online and as downloadable zip files - so flexible
whatever your requirements.
Yes the RoATP is opening up for New Providers on the 12th of December 2018 and ALL existing
providers must be on the RoATP register by September 2019
The RoATP is opening up for new providers on the 12th of December 2018 and ALL providers
delivering apprenticeship training must be on the RoATP by August 2019.
Only providers that meet the tougher register requirements can access government funding; these
are:
• All organisations delivering apprenticeship training must be on the RoATP. By August 2019, it
will be a funding rule requirement for all subcontractors delivering apprenticeship training to
be listed on the RoATP including those delivering less than £100k a year as a subcontractor.
• Main providers and employer providers must directly deliver apprenticeship training.
Employers and providers that only want to operate as a subcontractor will need to apply to
become a supporting provider.
• Providers not currently listed on the RoATP and want to be an apprenticeship training
provider may apply when the RoATP re-opens for applications from 12 December 2018.
• As the register is now open throughout the year, with no closing date, providers only need
to apply at the point they are ready to deliver.
• All providers currently on the RoATP will have to go through the new process; they will invite
them to re-apply in phases during 2019
• Supporting providers (subcontractors) can only receive funding of up to a maximum of
£500,000 per year, and this is limited to £100,000 in their first year if they have no recent

Teachers and staff across the country will benefit from a new £8 million professional development
offer, being developed by the Education and Training Foundation (ETF), to help them prepare for
the roll-out of new T Levels.
Teaching professionals will be offered the opportunity to participate in the new T Level Professional
Development offer to help them to develop their skills and knowledge so they are ready to deliver T
Levels – the technical equivalent to A Levels – from 2020.
The first T Levels courses in education & childcare, construction and digital will be taught in over 50
further education and post-16 providers from September 2020. A further 22 courses will be rolled
out from 2021 onwards covering sectors such as finance & accounting, engineering &
manufacturing, and creative & design.
Bespoke training will focus on making sure teachers understand the pioneering new qualifications
and will be an opportunity to update their subject and industry knowledge so it is relevant to the
needs of business. The funding will also help teachers and leaders to prepare for this significant
change.
Apprenticeships and Skills Minister Anne Milton said:
“T Levels will widen the choices for young people, offering them more than one route to a rewarding
career. T Level will equip young people with the knowledge and skills for further study in education
or in the workplace.
“It’s a big and important change, and we know we have to be prepared if we want our technical
education system to be first class.
“This new offer will help teachers to build on their skills and gain the additional knowledge they
need to make new T Levels a success as soon as the starting pistol is fired.”
David Russell, Chief Executive of the Education and Training Foundation, said:
“The introduction of the first T Levels in 2020 signals a significant and positive change to technical
education in this country. Ensuring providers are properly equipped to deliver the new qualifications
will be vital to their success, so it is important they are ready from day one. “We are pleased to have
been given the responsibility of meeting the T Level-related professional development needs of
teachers, trainers and leaders, which include those from the whole of the education sector. We
bring to this role our experience, expertise and partnership ethic in supporting the workforce to
deliver the technical education our learners, employers and country need and deserve.”
The T Level Professional Development offer is being developed with the ETF, the Gatsby Charitable
Foundation and the wider FE sector to understand the skills needed to teach and deliver T Levels.
Jenifer Burden, Director of Programmes at the Gatsby Charitable Foundation said: “Gatsby is
working with several local areas to support the implementation of T Levels. We’re delighted to be

working with ETF to build on this work and to shape the professional development offered to T-level
teachers, including building subject-specialist pedagogy.” The ETF will work with individual providers

We are looking to start conducting face-to-face feedback sessions from this week onwards. This
would involve a researcher visiting your office to discuss your experiences with the new directory
and asking you for feedback on a prototype. The session will take between 20 to 30 minutes.

Information: adult education budget (AEB) devolution update
From the 2019 to 2020 academic year, the government will devolve AEB to 6 combined authorities
and the Greater London Authority (GLA) through a delegation agreement to the Mayor of London.
This means that, from 1 August 2019, ESFA will be responsible for funding for residents of non-
devolved areas only.
Combined authorities and GLA will be responsible for funding for their residents and, as a result,
they will be undertaking various procurement and commissioning activities over the coming months.
Providers who wish to deliver to learners resident in areas where AEB will be devolved should
ensure they are aware of the relevant authority’s funding, contracting and planned procurement

December we will issue illustrative non-devolved AEB allocations for the 2019 to 2020 funding
year. Final allocations will be subject to a confirmed budget and will be issued through the Manage

agreement) the illustrative allocations with mayoral combined authorities and the Greater London
Authority (GLA). We will also publish provisional 2017 to 2018 AEB delivery data in non-devolved and

We have published details of the over-delivery that we are funding for 2017 to 2018. This is for both
grant funded providers and contract-funded providers and it covers apprenticeships, adult education
budget (AEB) including learner support, and advanced learner loans bursary funding. Final
reconciliation statements for 2017 to 2018 will shortly be available for you to view on the Manage
your education and skills funding service. They set out what funding you must repay and, where
applicable, any additional funding we will pay. They will cover the following grant-funded
allocations:
• a grant for your AEB (non-procured)
• a grant with an advanced learner loans bursary contract
• a learner support contract
• a community learning contract
We will process the final reconciliation adjustments for 2017 to 2018 in December 2018. Any under-

Information: ‘Opportunities Through Apprenticeships’ scheme launched
Four local authorities - Portsmouth, Nottingham, South Tyneside and Torbay - have all signed up to
take part in the new ‘Opportunities Through Apprenticeships’ pilot scheme. The scheme aims to
increase the number of people from disadvantaged communities taking up high-quality
apprenticeships. Each area has pledged to work with employers, training providers and local
partners to promote and encourage people to consider doing apprenticeships in key sectors such as
engineering, manufacturing, construction and ICT.

Will SAPs really be able to match local skills supply to employers’ needs, or is this just magical
thinking, asks Ewart Keep. Sometimes a piece of policy is announced and then vanishes from view
for a lengthy period. This often signifies that it is proving hard to design and deliver. A current case in
point is the Skills Advisory Panels (SAPs) whose birth was heralded in the Conservative party
manifesto in 2017. The SAPs would, it was claimed, provide the mechanism to ensure that local
skills supply was better matched with the needs of employers – a policy goal that we have been
pursuing by one means or another for more than 35 years.
With the election out of the way, the Department for Education sat down and tried to work out what
SAPs could do, how they could do it and how they might best be structured. The SAPs were
extremely vaguely sketched in the manifesto, so this proved to be a major challenge, not least as the
government had abolished the preceding infrastructure that aimed to help link supply and demand
sector skills councils (SSCs) and the UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UKCES). One strand
of thought was to have a single national SAP, but in the end this was abandoned.

Delivery Of A Pilot Alternative Provision Within A Business For Young People Aged 14-16
Bury Council
A commission to improve people's skills, job prospects and help businesses was launched in Bury in
2016. Bury Council now wish to procure the services of an organisation that will work with schools,
businesses and parents/carers to agree a personalised plan to support a young person aged 14-16
years to undertake real work experience in a real work environment.
The successful organisation will ensure that the young people participating will have a positive
experience and help them move into a positive outcome in the future, such as accessing mainstream
education, Further Education, Training/Traineeship, Apprenticeship or signposted to further support.
The successful organisation will also have mechanisms in place to collate feedback, participant
journey, outcomes and learning to transfer into an end of pilot report that will help inform future
opportunities for our young people.

Career Advisory Service - Nhs Leadership Academy
South Of England Procurement Centre
NHS South of England Procurement Services (SoEPS), acting on behalf of the NHS Leadership
Academy (the Commissioner) are commencing a tender for the provision of a Career Advisory
Service.
Aim
To establish a career planning and advisory service for clinicians complete with fully worked up
processes, materials and resources that will be embedded within a range of offers provided by local
Academy teams.
Purpose
• To enable aspiring clinical leaders to have a better understanding of their career path to take a
more planned approach to their careers, helping them to ensure they end up in the best possible
roles for them, their skills, abilities and values.
• To equip aspiring clinical leaders with the tools and resources to given themselves the best
possible chance of securing an executive role and successfully navigate the board appointment
process.
• Ultimately to increase the proportion of clinicians in senior executive roles.
Scope
This support would be initially targeted and piloted at those who are currently operating at one
below board level with a clinical background, Deputy Medical Director or Director of Nursing, Clinical
Directors, Band 9 and Band 8d nursing, medical and other senior clinical leaders.

Microsoft Windows 10 Training For Agem Csu
Nhs Arden And Greater East Midlands Commissioning Support Unit
Arden & GEM IT Services has a requirement to roll out Windows 10 across the entirety of the
hardware estate for all supported clients. IT support staff are not currently familiar with the
Windows 10 OS so will require specialist training to ensure they can continue to offer quality support

once clients are working on windows 10 devices. The roll-out project is due to begin towards the end
of 2018 so training needs to be scheduled in as soon as practically possible to support that project.
Delivery
Training will need to be conducted on Arden & GEM sites across at least 4 geographic locations to
negate a requirement for accommodation and travel expenses and ideally will require no more than
3 days per candidate. As the training rooms will be general purpose usage the training company will
need to provide their own equipment to conduct the course (including PC's, Monitors and Projectors
etc.).
The locations currently identified for training are: Derby, Basildon, Norwich and Lincoln, in each area
the following approximate numbers of staff are all in scope for this training:

Provision of Opportunities to Improve Attainment and Engage Vulnerable Children and Young
People

The Service will be divided into four ‘Lots’:
Lot 1: Full-Time Alternative Education Provision
Education provision offered to a pupil outside of the school setting for 25 hours a week or more.
Provision should be age-appropriate and cover the school curriculum to achieve accredited
qualifications. This provision could be to support one pupil or a group (maximum group size is 8).
The Provider should be registered as an independent school if providing full- time education to
five or more pupils of statutory school age or one pupil who is a LAC and/or has an EHCP.
Lot 2: Part-Time Alternative Provision
Educational provision that is delivered outside of the school setting to enhance the school
curriculum and/or a vocational placement. Provision should be age- appropriate and lead to
improved attainment and progress including the achievement of accredited qualifications, academic
and wider learning outcomes and/or vocational skills development. Pupils will remain registered at

their current school.
Part time hours are flexible to meet the needs of the child/young person, i.e. half a day or full day
once or twice a week. This provision could be to support one pupil or a group.
Lot 3: Tutoring
Tutoring provision delivered by qualified teachers outside of the school setting to support the school
curriculum and/or the specific needs of a pupil. Programmes are usually bespoke and delivered to
individuals or a small group of a maximum of 6 pupils.
Lot 4: Complementary Provision
This describes bespoke and personalised programmes of proactive support, mentoring and/or
coaching, which will be offered to pupils to enhance their learning experience and engagement. This
could include physical activities or therapeutic interventions. This will support or improve
behaviour, attendance, and the re-integration of pupils into mainstream schools.
This provision could be to support one pupil or a group. The hours are flexible depending on the
intervention.
Delivery Model
All lots will be delivered within Staffordshire with the exception of some Looked After Children
residing in neighboring authorities. The operational hours will predominantly be school days
Monday to Friday between the hours of 9:00am and 3:30pm, with the exception of Looked After
Children where bespoke after school, weekend and holiday provision may be required.
Provider Requirements
The Provider must offer:
• Appropriately qualified Designated Safeguarding Lead and all facilitators must be trained at
Level 1 Safeguarding as a minimum with all associated policies and procedures in place.
Please see paragraph 12.1 to 12.4 for specificity;
• An induction programme for all pupils placed;
• Clear sharing of information to partner agencies and parent/carers on the provision available
and governance arrangements;
• Appropriate and fully accessible facilities;
• Appropriate and accessible teaching resources, which help to promote achievement,
progress and positive behaviour;

• Suitable and eligible qualifications, where appropriate which meet the needs of pupils and
comply with school performance tables, including where possible Progress 81;
• Non-accredited qualifications, learning experiences and support, which help to build
confidence, improve behaviour and support the personal, social and academic needs of the
pupil(s);
• Access to appropriate, independent careers information, advice and guidance (IAG) services
to support post-16 progression and/or reintegration into mainstream school;
The Provider will have in place, as a minimum, their own Safeguarding Policy and Child Protection

Providers must ensure their provision can be accessed by pupils in Staffordshire and must
demonstrate that they have suitable premises or delivery locations formally arranged at the point at
which contracts of work or invitations to tender are issued.

The Targeted Impartial Information Advice and Guidance Service (TIIAG) will discharge Wakefield

Organisations are invited to submit a proposal (or proposals) for designing and delivering bespoke
and innovative pre-employment training that will help people gain the skills, confidence and/or
competencies that they may require to apply for the types of roles that will exist in the West of
England Enterprise Zones or Areas either now or in the future. The training must be co-designed
with employers and must include an element of co-delivery during the programme.
Collaborative responses are encouraged from both employers and providers/ and or other
stakeholders who operate in the region. The organisation providing the training programme does
not need to be an accredited training provider. The training can be provided by an employer or
another organisation with the expertise in the specified area.
We are seeking to fund a number of proposals across the funding period through a series of calls
that together deliver training for up to 360 learners. The total amount of funding available is 100,000
(plus VAT).
Applicants can submit more than one proposal and in more than one call. Should insufficient
proposals be accepted in a call, further calls will be made until the funding has been fully
committed.
Calls will cease once the allocated funding level has been reached. (360 learners)
All training must be delivered or started by 29th March 2019.

Additional Funding to Support Veterans with Mental Health Needs (UK)
To mark the centenary of the First World War Armistice, the government is doubling the amount of
money going to the Armed Forces Covenant Fund this year from £10 million to £20 million.
The Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust supports veterans with mental health needs that are not

War battlefields tours for school students. This will build on the success of the existing First World
War Centenary Battlefield Tours Programme which gives one teacher and two students from every
state-funded secondary school in England a free accredited battlefield tour to the Western Front.
The Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust operates a two grant programmes:
• The Armed Forces Covenant Local Grants and Digital Development programme makes grants
of up to £20,000 for projects that support community integration or local delivery of

• The Serious Stress in Veterans, Carers and Families Programme will make grants to up to 5
single lead organisations who will manage a portfolio. Of work that will support the
beneficiaries, who are veterans that are very unwell, their carers and their families. This

additional funding of up to £8 million is also being made available to help with the cost of repairs

As part of its new programme, Alzheimer’s Society is looking to fund innovations and inventions that
could help people affected by dementia live better. Anyone with an idea for a product or service that
will improve the lives of people affected by dementia can apply including (but not limited to)
engineers, designers, developers, innovators and entrepreneurs.
Ideas could range from a simple product that makes an everyday task easier for a person living with

Teaching Physics Scholarships - Deadline Extended to 3rd December (UK)
The Institute of Physics (IOP), in partnership with the Department for Education offers teacher
training scholarships, worth £28,000 for people in England who would like to train to teach physics
or physics with maths. Scholarships also include a package of benefits such as Institute membership
and early career mentoring. 140 scholarships are available each year.
The scholarships are worth £28,000 and to apply applicants will need to:
• Have a physics or related degree (such as engineering or mathematics) with a proven or
predicted grade of at least 2.1; or hold a relevant PhD or master’s degree or recognised
equivalent; or have completed a Subject Knowledge Enhancement course in physics. Those
with a 2.2 degree may be considered where they can demonstrate significant physics-related
experience and knowledge
• By September 2019, the applicant must secure a training place on an eligible university-led
or school-led (fee based, non-salaried) physics or physics-with-maths ITT course in England
for the 2019/20 academic year. The training place must have been allocated in accordance
with the ITT allocations methodology for academic year 2019 to 2020 and must be delivered
by an institution accredited by DfE as an ITT provider. Additionally, eligible courses lead,
upon completion, to a recommendation, on behalf of the trainee, for the award of QTS.

Through the fund the Royal Society of Chemistry aim to support projects that:
• maximise our members' outreach and engagement contribution
• offer teachers a range of effective curriculum-enriching activities and opportunities to
further engage their students with outreach
• provide hard-to-reach student audiences with inspiring chemistry engagement
opportunities, delivered or coordinated by skilled people
• increase chemistry and chemists' influence in public discourse and decision-making in line
with the findings of the Public Attitude to Chemistry research.
Priority will be given to projects that raise awareness of the place of chemistry in people's everyday
lives, especially those not already interested in chemistry, and/or develop the science
communication skills of people who are already highly trained in chemistry.
The Outreach Fund is split into two categories:
• Small grants - up to £2,000
• Large grants - between £2,000 and £10,000.
Previously funded projects include:
"Cool chemistry at the seaside" where the Society awarded a grant of £2,000 to volunteers in
Ramsgate who transformed an empty town-centre shop into a makeshift theatre, delivering free
chemistry demonstrations to anyone.
The closing date for small grants is 12 noon on the 14th January 2019.

Grants to Support Canoeing and Inland Waterway Conservation (UK)
The main purpose of the Canoe Foundation is to “support all to enjoy and benefit from the
experience of paddling on our water in a sustainable manner”. The Foundation does this through
grant making that facilitates improvements to suitable landing and launching points and by
promoting the conservation of inland waterways for the benefit of all sectors of the community.
The Foundation awards grants to projects that:
• New or improved launching points in urban or rural locations or as part of a water trail, such
as steps or pontoons. Linked promotion of access points including signage or maps to
increase participation and use.
• Incorporating better accessibility or facilities at waterside locations which might improve the
parking or changing aspects of a site.
• Improving the quality of the waterways and oceans through support, for example practical
kits, for a clean-up or an improved natural habitat.
The Foundation invites applications for grants ranging from £2,000 to £20,000.

Funding for Schools to Purchase Musical Equipment (UK)
Schools, teachers and individuals in full time education in the UK, that wish to purchase musical
instruments and equipment can apply for funding of up to £1,500 through the EMI Music Sound
Foundation's Instrument and/or Equipment Awards.
To date the Foundations has made awards to over two thousand schools, individual students and
teachers improve their access to music through the purchase or upgrade of musical instruments and
equipment. The funding has to be made for music education that is beyond statutory national
curriculum music teaching. The Foundation cannot fund retrospectively, and schools are not eligible

Hilden Charitable Fund Announces Next Application Deadline (UK)
The next closing date for applications to the Hilden Charitable Fund is the 19th December
2018.mWithin the UK, the Hilden Charitable Fund makes grants to projects that address

Austin and Hope Pilkington Trust Announces Next Funding Round for 2019 (UK)
The Austin and Hope Pilkington Trust which awards grants to registered charities in the United
Kingdom has announced that the next funding round will open for applications on the 1st February

Hospice Grants for Bereavement Care (England and Wales)
The Masonic Charitable Foundation in England and Wales is working in partnership with Hospice UK
to deliver a programme of local funding that will have a significant and lasting impact on
communities. The aim of the programme is to widen access to hospice bereavement support by
developing and extending support to bereaved people who may not previously have had access to
services from their local hospice and other local organisations. The purpose of offering such support
is to enhance the well-being of bereaved families or individuals.
In particular, the funding is aimed at encouraging new projects to be developed and implemented in
partnership with others, e.g. internal colleagues/departments, hospitals, community groups, local
councils or other organisations, in order that they complement existing provision and are truly
integrated in systemic plans to reach more people.

Funding for Early Years Professional Development (England)
The Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) and Department for Education (DfE) are looking to fund
and evaluate early years education projects focused on professional development in order to
improve the learning and development of children from low income families aged 0–5.
Applications are accepted from mainstream primary and secondary schools, charities, local
authorities, academy chains, universities, social enterprises and community interest companies.
EEF is open to ideas that can demonstrate clear theory of how the approach will lead to
improvements in practice, and ultimately learning outcomes, particularly for children from
disadvantaged backgrounds.
The EEF does not fund projects in one or very small numbers of schools/settings. The Foundation
could fund a pilot to work in c.20 schools, but usually with the aim of later testing it in a larger trial
of over 80 settings.
There is no set minimum or maximum size of grant; past EEF grants have ranged from £90,000 to
£1.8million. Grants will support projects that:
• Focus on improving the learning of disadvantaged children in England through supporting

Mandarin Excellence Programme Opens for Applications (England)
Applications are now invited from state schools in England to join the Mandarin Excellence
Programme for the 2019-2020 academic year. The Programme aims to deliver a minimum of 5,000
speakers of Mandarin on their way to a high level of fluency by 2020.
Grants of a minimum of £20,000 per year are available to state-funded secondary schools in England
that have an Ofsted rating in its most recent inspection of ‘Outstanding' or ‘Good', are committed to
developing a strong curriculum presence of Mandarin Chinese and can ensure students study
Mandarin for an average of 8 hours per week, with a minimum of four being made of face to face
teaching time. Schools funded through this programme should also act as or work with a hub school,
growing the number of schools and pupils in the local area on the programme; and work to ensure
that pupils will be on course to complete HSK IV and V exams within 6 years of starting the
programme. Some pupils will have the chance to visit China.
The next intake of Mandarin Excellence Programme schools will need to start delivering the
programme in September 2019.

Grants of up to £100,000 Available to Support Community Energy Companies (England)
The Power to Change Trust which provides support to Community business in England has
announced the launch of its new Next Generation fund. The fund will provide grants of up to
£100,000 to ten community energy groups to work on new business models for community energy
in their area.
The Trust will hold two application rounds, one in winter 2018 and one in early 2019, and award
funding and support to five community groups per round. The fund is open to well established and
experienced community energy businesses in England who want to develop innovative business
models, building on their past achievements. Projects will need to be complete by June 2021.
The Trust will run a 45-minute webinar for applicants starting at 17.30 on 20 November. Click here

Each round will comprise of three stages. The deadline for stage 1 (submitting an Expression of
Interest) is the 13th January 2019.
Shortlisted groups will need to attend an interview in the week beginning 28 January. The selected

fund is to support places of worship in England to have well-qualified, informed and confident faith

congregations.
At a minimum, the Government expect the training provision to ensure faith leaders are well-
equipped and well-positioned to teach their congregations about their rights and responsibilities in
the following areas, as well as to be able to identify issues, support affected individuals and signpost
people to relevant guidance, legislation and support services in the following areas:
• Domestic Abuse;
• Forced Marriage;
• Female Genital Mutilation;
• Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation;
• Mental Health.
Training programmes should also cover:
• Marriage legislation;
• Equalities legislation;
• Hate crime legislation and how to respond to / report hate crime;
• Shared values.
The training programme may consider including (among other things):

Scottish Government Launches £150 Million Building Scotland Fund (Scotland)
Non-public sector organisations such as businesses; housing associations and universities can apply
for loan finance through the new Building Scotland Fund. The £150 million Building Scotland Fund
aims to help the development of new affordable and private sector housing; the development of
modern industrial and commercial property; and supports industry-led research and development.
Funding is only available up to March 2021 so is best used to help projects that are at a later stage of
development. This means funding is unlikely to be available if projects are at a concept stage. The
funding is likely to be for projects that need over £1 million, and the specific amount of funding
available will vary depending on the project.
Funding will be given out as loans which will need to be paid back, or as equity finance.
Funding will not cover the entire cost of a project, and applicants will need to find matched funding.
Applicants will be asked to send a business plan. The business plan should show:
• why the project needs public sector funding
• why the project cannot be funded in another way, for example through the organisation’s
own resources, a bank loan.

Gatwick Airport Community Trust (South East of England)
The Gatwick Airport Community Trust is an independent charity that awards grants annually for
deserving projects within the area of benefit covering parts of East and West Sussex, Surrey and
Kent. In particular, funds are channeled to those areas where people are directly affected by
operations at Gatwick Airport.
The trust supports schemes that are targeted towards:
• The development of young people;
• The arts, sporting facilities;
• Environmental improvement and conservation;
• Improvements to community facilities;
• Volunteering;
• The elderly;
• The disabled.
The minimum grant awarded is £250 with the usual amount being between £1000 and £5000.
Occasional larger grants may be considered if the impact is targeted to benefit a significant number
of people and is considered to make a valuable and noticeable difference longer term.
Charities, schools, sports clubs and other local organisations within these areas that benefit diverse
sections of the local community are all eligible to apply.
The deadline for receipt of grant applications is the 28th February 2019.

• The Wishing Well programme received a grant of £2,000 for their work with people with
dementia and their families
• 19 Crawley Sqn RAF Air Cadets - £2,500 to purchase 4 new drums with full accessories
• Oxted Young Persons Theatre received a grant of £1,500 to support their Silver Arts project
for the over 65s

Funding for Community Projects (West Midlands)
The Birmingham Airport Community Trust Fund has announced that the next closing date for
applications is the Friday 21st August 2018 with grants awarded in October 2018.
The Trust makes grants of up to £3,000 to locally managed, constituted community groups in areas
most affected by the Airport's operations. Grants totalling around £75,000 each year are made to
local good causes for part or full funding for specific project costs or items. Preference is given to
projects that benefit the local community or a substantial section of it and that take account of the
elderly and people with special needs.
The Trust will support projects relating to:
• Heritage conservation
• Environmental improvements
• Bringing communities together through facilities for sport, recreation and leisure time
activities
• Improving health and wellbeing through the promotion of healthy lifestyles and
employment opportunities.
Previous awards include a grant to Sea Cadets Training Ship Stirling in Shard End towards the
purchase of a brand-new RS Quest sailing boat.

Bids can focus on a certain year group or be open to the whole school. The funding is being made
available through the Rolls Royce Fund which is looking to support programmes and activities that
focus on resilience, mindfulness, strategies for spotting and tackling mental health issues, exercise
and techniques for better mental health.
The total amount of funding available is £30,000. The closing date for applications is the 25th

Funding for Youth Drama and Sports Activities (Bristol)
Grants of between £1,000 and £2,500 are available to support youth organisations in Bristol that
benefit young people up to the age of 25 who face barriers to accessing sport or drama activities.
The funding is being made available through the Dan Hickey Fund which is administered by the
Quartet Community Foundation and is targeted at local voluntary and community organisations
where a small amount of money can make a significant difference.
The type of activities that can be supported include:
• Helping to provide young local people with opportunities to enjoy sport and drama facilities
they might otherwise not have access to.
• Taster events in sport or drama.
• Enabling disabled young local people to attend music or drama-based theme days.
• Rehearsal costs for children's drama groups.
• Providing access to drama therapy sessions for children affected by a limiting illness or
disability, or financial hardship in their family.
• Helping young people who have lost their way to engage through targeted sport or drama
opportunities.

Manchester Arena Memorial Grant Programme (Manchester)
The Inter Faith Youth Trust is launching a new grant programme for young people’s organisations to
hold inter faith events or activities in the Greater Manchester area. May 2019 will mark two years
since the bombing at the Manchester Arena. The focus of the project is to highlight the good that
can come from different communities working together in friendship.
Grants will be awarded for:
• Projects or activities held in the Greater Manchester Area from April to June 2019
• Projects must include learning by children and young people (11-25 years old) from different
faiths about different faiths, through social action. Applicants must include more than one
faith and show how your project of social action will promote learning about faiths.
• Co-operation and understanding between faiths which preferably involve young people in
planning, running, and evaluating; and which promote equal opportunities
• Increasing understanding between people of faith and of no faith
Priority will be given to projects that:
• Actively involve young people in planning, running, and evaluation.
• Promote positive action i.e. young people from different backgrounds coming together to
address shared problems like improving green spaces
• Are run by non-statutory organisations, such as youth clubs, scout/guide groups, local
voluntary and community organisations. Schools can apply provided that more than one
school or organisation is involved in a joint project
Grants of between £200 and £1,000 are available.

Grants for Small Grassroots Organisations (Kent)
Managed by Kent Community Foundation, Brook Trust Fund supports local community groups and
charities working to achieve positive social outcomes, using early intervention where possible,
tackling disadvantage, deprivation and social exclusion. This fund is specifically seeking to fund small
grassroots groups with an annual income of below £100,000.
Grants of up to £5,000 are available for work that covers prevention, hard to fund, and lower income
groups.
The Fund is open all year round and decisions are made every quarter. The next closing date to apply
is the 31st December 2018.

Funding to Support Vulnerable Migrants (UK)
Not for profit organisations that promote positive interaction between different groups in order to
counter xenophobia, racism and Islamophobia can apply for funding through the Barrow Cadbury
Trust’s Migration Programme.
Through its Migration Programme the Trust want to fund grassroots groups working with refugees,
asylum seekers, undocumented migrants and other marginalised migrants. The Trust seek to enable
grassroots groups to support the most vulnerable migrants as well as empower migrants and ensure
they are not excluded from the public debate on migration. Organisations may apply for this
programme from anywhere in the UK but most awards will be made in the West Midlands.
No minimum or maximum grant amount is specified.

• The Bosnia & Herzegovina UK Network (BHN) to expand their work with young refugees,
many of whom are experiencing conflicts with family members as they grow up in a culture

The Rank Foundation – Pebble Grants Programme (UK)
UK registered charities and recognised churches which are raising money for capital projects
(building work, refurbishment or the purchase of long-term equipment) or a one-off short-term
activity (such as an annual respite break or holiday for disadvantaged young people) can apply for
funding through the Rank Foundation – Pebble Grants programme.

Grants Available to Restore the UK’s Industrial Heritage (UK)
Grants up to £20,000 are available for the restoration of important industrial buildings, structures,
machinery, vehicles and vessels within the UK. Grants can be made to not-for-profit organisations

Grant to Mark the Centenary of WWI (UK)
Schools that wish to develop projects that improve the understanding of World War I can apply for
grants of between £3,000 and £10,000 through the Heritage Lottery Fund’s (HLF) new £6 million
small grants programme “First World War: then and now”. The aim of this new grants programme is
to help communities mark the Centenary of the First World War.
The programme will award £1 million per year for six years. HLF want to fund projects which enable
communities to understand more about the heritage of the First World War. In particular, HLF
would like to help young people aged 11–25 to take an active part in the Centenary
commemorations.
Focusing on the identification, recording and preservation of local heritage; the creation of
community archives or collections; exhibitions, trails, smartphone apps and creative material such as
plays, and music based on heritage sources, the idea is to create an enduring cultural and
educational legacy for communities.
First World War: then and now is a rolling programme, and applications can be submitted at any

Grants for Voluntary and Community Based Organisations (Great Britain and Africa)
The Noel Buxton Trust supports voluntary and community based organisations in Great Britain and
in some of the most vulnerable parts of Africa. The Trust operates three funding programmes:
Africa Grants: Supports projects based in Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Uganda, Sudan and South Sudan
put forward by small charities. Within these areas, priority will be given to work with communities
living in urban slums and semi-arid regions where economic hardship is most extreme. Grants of up
to £5,000 over three years are made to projects that focus on economic development i.e. small
business support and training, and microfinance in both urban and rural settings; building
sustainable futures in the semi-arid areas of Africa; and support for and protection of street children
that helps them find safe and sustainable livelihoods.
Families and domestic abuse: The Trustees particularly acknowledge that there is a pervasive
impact on children, and one that can affect them into adulthood and thus consider projects that
work with survivors and/or perpetrators of domestic abuse. Grants of up to £5,000 over three years
are offered to smaller, grass-roots organisations in England, Scotland and Wales with an emphasis on
areas outside London, South-East England.
Penal Grants: Recognising the variety of Voluntary and Community Sector organisations working
with offenders, grants are made to local campaigning organisations; self-help groups; and service
providers as follows:
• One off grants of up to £3,000 to pay for specific projects that help maintain relationships
between prisoners and their families or for work that supports the contributions that
volunteers make within the prison community.
• Grants of up to £4,000 per year over two to three years, particularly where a guaranteed on-
going contribution is going to make a difference to the sustainability of a programme or
activity.

Funding to Assist Rural Businesses and Communities (UK)
The Princes Trust Countryside Fund will re-open for applications in January 2019. Each year, the
fund provides more than £1m in grants to projects across the UK. Organisations and charities that
support farmers, rural businesses and communities can apply for grants of up to £50,000. Funding is
available for both capital and revenue costs and must meet at least one of the following key rural
issues:
• To improve the prospects of viability for family farm businesses
• To sustain rural communities and drive economic vibrancy
• To support aid delivery in emergency and building resilience.

Funding for Projects that Tackle the Root Causes of Social Inequity (UK)
Not for profit organisations that work towards a just and democratic society and to redress political
and social injustices can apply for grants of between £1,000 and £5,000. The funding is available to
causes outside the mainstream that are unlikely to receive funding from other sources. Examples of
projects funded in the past include the Boaz Trust a Christian organisation serving destitute asylum
seekers in Greater Manchester which received a grant of £2,000; and the Grandparents Association
in Leeds which received a grant of £4,800.
The funding is made through the Scurrah Wainright Charity and the next closing date for applications
is the 14th January 2019.
Innovation Voucher Scheme - Follow on Funding (Scotland)
The Scottish Funding Council has announced that the next deadline for applications under its Follow
on Innovation Voucher Scheme is the 18th January 2019. The awards are specifically intended to
encourage existing partnerships that have previously collaborated and jointly received funding. This
can include the Scottish Funding Council Innovation Voucher awards scheme or any other funded
activity. Businesses in partnership with Higher Education Institutes can apply for funding of up to
£20,000. The grant requested must be matched in cash by the company.
Applications for the follow on scheme can be submitted to continue a previous or to develop a
collaboration in a new area with a research group drawn from a different department or institution.
Funding Available to Create Employment Opportunities for Ex-Offenders and People Recovering
from Addiction (England)
Enterprises and charities run by, or creating employment opportunities for, ex-offenders and people
in recovery from addiction can apply for a tailored mix of support to help grow their business. The
Forward Enterprise Fund provides access to unsecured loans between £25,000 and £150,000 for
revenue and / or capital projects for up to a 5-year term. A further £5,000 may be available to kick
start a Crowdfunding campaign.
The funding is being made available through the Social Investment Business’s Forward Enterprise
Fund and expression of interest forms can be submitted at any time.

Learning Through Volunteering Awards (Kent and East Sussex)
Young people living or working in Kent or East Sussex between the age of 17 and 25 who wish to
undertake a Special Project or Placements i.e. a voluntary role in a project either in the UK or
overseas, can apply for a grant of £500 to £1000. Applicants must apply for consideration in the
Spring/Summer Evaluation; the deadline for the next evaluation is 27 February 2019. The project
may be undertaken during a GAP year, a sabbatical from employment, a school/university holiday or
during a period of unemployment.
Up to 10 Awards per year are made by the Bedgebury Foundation.
British Ecological Society – Outreach Grants (UK)
The British Ecological Society has announced that its Outreach Grants programme will re-open in
January 2019 when the closing date will also be announced. Schools, museums, libraries and
community groups will be able to apply for grants to promote ecological science to a wide audience.
Applications from museums and schools must involve significant outreach beyond schools as
projects aimed solely at delivering curriculum to school children will not be considered.
The maximum award is £2,000 and the grant may be used as part-funding for larger projects
involving other sponsors.
Funding to Support Older People’s Voluntary and Community Activity (England)
Grants of £40,000 - £60,000 are available for projects in England that develop and document models
of good practice in supporting older people’s voluntary and community activity. This fund seeks to
stimulate new approaches and identify good practice that other organisations can learn from and
replicate. The Fund is open for applications from registered charities and Community Interest
Companies (CICs).
There is a two-stage applications process and applicants have until the 10th December to complete
the online application. A workshop will be held for shortlisted applicants in the week of the 7th
January 2019. Shortlisted applicants will then have two weeks to revise their applications.
D'Oyly Carte Charitable Trust (UK)
UK Registered Charities can apply to the D'Oyly Carte Charitable Trust for a grant of £500 to £5,000
for projects focussing on the arts, medical welfare and the environment. The Trust has a particular
focus on organisations supporting disadvantaged and disabled children.

Teachers to Benefit from New Funding to Boost Skills Ahead of T Levels Roll-out (UK)
The Education and Training Foundation (ETF) is working on a new professional development offer
that create tailor made upskilling packages for teaching professionals. Building on the excellent skills
and practice that already exists within the sector, the training is expected to be available from Spring
2019.
The aim is to support the delivery of the first T Levels courses in education & childcare, construction
and digital that will be taught in over 50 further education and post-16 providers from September
2020.
Grants for Education Projects with Young People (London Boroughs of Greenwich and Lewisham)
Registered charities or educational establishments as well as individuals seeking financial assistance
to support educational initiatives and projects aimed at young people can apply for one-off grants of
up to £5,000 to support their work. Beneficiaries must be aged under 25 living in the London
Boroughs of Greenwich or Lewisham. Projects supported will demonstrate a clear commitment to
education and ideally focus on improving student inclusiveness.
The next deadline to apply to Sir William Boreman's Foundation via the Drapers Company is the 5th
February 2019. Individuals can also apply for grants of up to £3,000 to support their education.
Grants for Small Organisations Making Good Use of Volunteers (UK)
Charities, social enterprises and community interest companies have until 31 January 2019 to apply
to the Woodward Charitable Trust to have their project considered at the next Trustees meeting.
Grants from £200 upwards are awarded for projects covering the Arts; Community and Social
Welfare; Disability and Health; and Education.
Preference is given to small to medium-sized charities with an income of less than £300,000 where
small grants can have more impact. Priority is given to projects that make good use of volunteers,
encourage past and current users to participate and ensure that funds awarded are being well used.
Funding Available for Arts Based Activities Aimed at Disadvantaged Young People (Scotland)
Arts, creative and youth organisations in Scotland can apply for grants of up to £10,000 to deliver

free community arts activities for young people (aged 10 – 24). The fund is focused on delivering
high quality arts, screen and creative activities for young people who face one or more forms of
disadvantage. The funding is being made available through the CashBack for Creativity Open Fund
delivered in partnership with YouthLink Scotland.
The closing date for applications is 1pm on the 25th January 2019.
Funding for Projects that Address the Development Needs of Young Children (UK, Kenya and Malawi)
Grants of up to £150,000 will be available to organisations within the UK for projects that address
the comprehensive development needs of children during their early years, up to and including their
transition to primary school. The funding is available to organisations that directly support families
with young children; especially those at risk of disadvantage and with demonstrable experience in
one or more of the key areas – for instance in health, or in education. The funding is being made
available through Comic Relief’s new “Children Survive and Thrive: Rise and Shine” initiative.
As well as funding for projects in the UK, grants of up to £300,000 are also available for projects in
Kenya and Malawi. The initiative will open for applications on the 7th January 2019 and close on the
22nd March 2019.
Funding to Support Disadvantaged Pupils in State Schools (London)
The John Lyon's Charity has announced that its Schools in Partnership Fund is open for applications.
Through the programme, the charity is making grants of between £25,000 and £50,000 to groups of
state schools (in partnership with local voluntary organisations where appropriate) for projects
aimed at supporting their most challenged pupils, strengthening links with home life and
coordinating the support of other available professionals.
The funding is available to schools in Barnet, Brent, Camden, Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham,
Harrow, Kensington & Chelsea and the Cities of London and Westminster. Previous projects
supported include St Anselm's RC Catholic Primary School which received a grant of £38,000 for a
play therapy project with four other schools and the Catholic Children's Society (Westminster); and
Kingsbury High School which received a grant of £15,000 for a psychotherapy project with Brent
Centre for Young People.
The Schools in Partnership Fund has a two stage application procedure. The Trustee meets in March,
June and November. Proposals should be received by the Grants Team at least four months before.

Funding Available for New Walking and Cycling Routes (Scotland)
Public and not for profit organisations such as National parks; Regional Transport Partnerships;
Further and higher education institutions; Housing associations, NHS organisations and Constituted
community groups; etc can apply for grants of between £1,000 and £2 million to develop new
walking and cycling infrastructure in Scotland. A total of £36 million is available in 2018/19.
The funding is being made available through the Transport Scotland’s Community Links Fund and
applications can be submitted at any time until the 31st March 2019.
Funding for Arts Projects that Work with Children and Young People (UK)
Not for profit organisations in the arts and cultural sector can apply for grants of up to £50,000 for
projects that work with children and young people up to the age of 18 using the arts and creative
media. Preference will be given to innovative projects which have a deep commitment to listening to
children and allow the perceptions and feelings of children themselves to be better understood.
Organisations can apply for both one-off short-term projects and for projects lasting up to three
years.
The funding is being made available through the Ragdoll Foundation's Open Grant Scheme. Previous
projects supported include Dance Devon, who received a grant of £20,550 to develop and deliver ‘All
Aboard’, a new inclusive dance project for very young disabled and non-disabled children and their
families; and the West Yorkshire Playhouse which received a grant of £26,028 to develop and deliver
a new arts-based creative play project with around 30 babies, toddlers and pre-school children
whose mothers attend the Playhouse’s weekly Asmarina Voices refugee women’s singing group.

Development Grants for Sport (Wales)
Sports Clubs or Associations, Youth Clubs and Community Groups in Wales looking to establish a
new team, develop new training facilities or purchase much needed equipment to take their project
to the next level could be eligible to apply for a grant to help them. Development grants of £1,501 to
£25,000 are available from Sport Wales to any group in Wales that holds it’s own bank account and
is looking to further develop sport in the community.

£100,000 can apply for grants of £500 to £1,000 towards a playscheme that runs for a minimum of 2
weeks or 10 days across the summer holidays. Priority is given to small local playschemes involving a
large number of children especially those with disabilities or from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Projects supported will also be expected to make good use of volunteers, encourage past and
current users to participate and ensure that funds awarded are being well used.
Grants are awarded in May by the Woodward Charitable Trust and the closing date for submitting an
application is the 5th April 2019.
Funding to Support the Development of Small Charities and Social Enterprises (UK)
From the 6th December 2018, small charities, social enterprises and community interest groups will
be able to register to apply for grants of up to £30,000 plus support to unlock growth, sustainability
and efficiency. To qualify applicant organisations will need to have a turnover of less than £500,000
per year. To apply for funding, organisations must register at the start of each funding round.
Numbers for each round are capped and registration are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Once the cap is reached, the round is closed. Once successfully registered, organisations are invited
to submit a simple application.
The funding is being made available through the Fore Trust and the closing date will be the 7th
January 2018.
Funding for Faith Motivated Anti-Poverty Projects (Scotland)
Local faith groups in Scotland that work with and support the poorest urban and rural communities
have until the 13th February 2019 to apply for grants of up to £2,000 for projects that provide hope
and alleviate poverty. Applicants can only be accepted by projects which are “motivated by faith
(including places of worship and projects working with Faith Leaders within specific communities.
The funding is being made available through the Faiths in Scotland Community Action Fund and the
closing date for applications is the 13th February 2019.
New £3 Million Fund to be Launched to Support Grassroots Community-Led Organisations (England)
Intermediary funders with experience of grant making are being invited to apply to a new 3 million
fund to make support and make grants to community-led organisations (with an annual income of
less than £250,000) within England. The funding is available over two-years. The funding is being
made through Comic Relief who are looking to work with one partner to support grassroots

organisations in order to bring about lasting social change. Comic Relief are looking to partner with
an intermediate funder that has experience in working with local community led organisations.
The closing date is midday on the 8th January 2019.
East Midlands Airport Community Fund Opens for Applications (East Midlands)
Communities around East Midlands airport can apply for grants of up to £2,000 for projects that
have a long-lasting community, social or environmental benefit. The funding is being made available
through the East Midlands Airport Community Fund, which was established in April 2002 and since
then over £920,000 has been awarded to over 1180 projects, to bring lasting benefit to the
communities around the airport.
In order for an application to be successful it must meet at least one of the following objectives:
bring the community closer together through facilities for sport, recreation and other leisure time
activities; support young people to prepare for the world of work and make work an inspiring choice;
offer environmental improvement and/or heritage conservation; improve awareness of
environmental issues through environmental education; and encourage and/or protect wildlife.
The next closing date for applications is the 9th January 2019
Small Grants Available for Community Projects (Scotland)
Small grants of up to £500 are available to assist and support community projects and initiatives
throughout Scotland. Funding is available for a wide range of projects benefiting local communities
but must be focused on the areas of children; education; community groups; active lifestyles;
environment; the elderly; homelessness; fairtrade; arts & culture; and charity.
To be eligible for funding, applicants must be a group or individual acting for the wider benefit of the
local Community; and live within the geographic boundaries of one of Scotmid Regional Committees.
Schools are also eligible to apply for activities that are not part of their statutory responsibilities. This
could for example include funding for a breakfast club.
Applications can be submitted at any time.
Businesses Encouraged to Apply for New Fund to Support manufacturing (North East)
Manufacturing businesses in the North East of England are now able to apply to the Collaborative
Projects Fund following the launch of a £5.1million project by the University of Sunderland. The
Sustainable Advanced Manufacturing (SAM) project is a multi-million pound scheme to support

small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises (SMEs) across the North East LEP region, aiming
to create jobs and unlock growth. Applications from SME consortiums are particularly encouraged. It
is anticipated that most awards will be between £5,000 and £35,000 per project.
The Project Selection Panel will review submitted EOI every quarter and applicants will be contacted
within 30 days.
Veolia Environmental Trust Grants (UK)
The next closing date for stage 1 applications to the Veolia Environmental Trust is the 28th February
2019. Grants of up to £75,000 are available to constituted not for profit organisations and registered
Environmental Bodies towards community buildings; parks and paths, play, Multi Use Games Areas
(MUGAs) and recreational facilities; nature reserves; and bio diversity projects.
To be eligible to apply, the applicant organisation needs to be within the vicinity of a qualifying
Veolia site; the projects must have a total cost of under £250,000 (including VAT and professional
costs); the applicant must have secured 20% of funding towards the project prior to submitting a full
(stage 2) application.
New Fund Launched for Young People to Improve their Local Communities (Scotland)
A new fund has been launched to give young people (aged 12 – 25) and youth groups in Scotland
grants of up to £3,000 to put their ideas into action and change the places where they live for the
better. Young people can apply for grants of up to £500 for smaller seed corn grants to engage with
others in the community to develop their ideas or larger idea grants of up to £3,000 to further
develop their idea and deliver changes on the ground. The funding is provided through Greenspace
Scotland’s Young Placechangers Ideas Fund and the first deadline for applications is the 26th
February 2019.
New Fund to Celebrate the Windrush Generation (England)
Councils and community groups have the opportunity to bid for new funding to hold their own local
events to celebrate and commemorate the positive impact of the Windrush Generation on modern
Britain. From a total of £500,000, £350,000 will be exclusively provided via local authorities and
£150,000 will be available for direct bids from charities and community groups. Grants of £2,500 and
up to £25,000 will be awarded for innovative, active community engagement projects making a
positive impact in at least one of three areas: celebration, commemoration and education.
Apply to the UK Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government by midnight, 21 January
2019.

Funding for Projects Benefiting Rural Communities (England, Scotland and Wales)
Calor Rural Community Fund offers rural off grid communities the chance to gain funding for
projects that will improve local life. Applications for funding are divided into three categories:
£1,000, £2,500 and £5,000. There are 5 x £5,000 grants, 6 x £2,500 grants and 10 x £1,000 grants
available to off-grid community projects. Funding applied for must equate to 50% or more of the
total project cost. Projects supported can be anything from schools, community centres, village halls
and sporting venues to youth clubs and scout groups, or even initiatives to support the elderly.
The Fund re-opens on the 20th March 2019 – interested groups should register their details to
receive a notification with funding dates for 2019.
Funding for Community Safety Projects (Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Thames
Valley)
Policing and/or community safety related charity or community groups working in the Thames Valley
Police Force area have until 12pm on Monday, 17th December 2018 to apply for a grant to support
projects and activities that to improve the lives of people in the Thames Valley Police area. Grants of
£1,500 to £6,000 are available from a total pot of £100,000 for work that reduces re-offending or
improves the local response to serious organised crime.
The funding is offered by the Thames Valley Police and Crime Commissioner’s Police Property Act
Fund.
Funding for Digital Technologies that Enable People to Live Healthier Lives (Scotland)
Organisations in Scotland, including health and social care organisations, private companies, social
enterprises and charities can apply for grants of up to £30,000 that support innovative digital
technologies that make data available and useful to citizens to help them lead healthier, and more
independent, lives. Projects can last up to nine months.
The funding is being made available through both the innovation charity NESTA and the Scottish
Government for bold and ambitious people-facing projects that demonstrate innovative approaches
to empowering Scottish citizens with data and information.
The deadline for submitting an expression of interest is 10 am on the 14th December 2018. Based on
the ideas submitted, Nesta and the Scottish Government will create a shortlist of ideas with greatest
potential by the 16th January 2019 and invite applicants to attend a workshop to develop them on
the 22nd January 2019.
