I have been impressed by the resilience of the staff, students and community during this time and wish you all a well-deserved break. I expect you are all aware that we are now in Phase Four of our recovery roadmap and all being well WA will move into Phase Five of recovery on 18th July. As this aligns with the end of the school holidays it means some changes will be made moving forward into Term 3. Based on current information we will be able to return to whole school assemblies and hold some whole school events including the Faction Carnival and Open Evening. Please see the attached Term 3 planner for more information. As some restrictions remain in place, we need to continue to ensure physical distancing is adhered to and ask parents to wait outside classrooms. Please contact the class teacher if you need to make a time for a meeting either directly or via email/connect. There is no longer a requirement for parents attending meetings to sign in via the front office. Students are still required to bring their own drink bottles to use and any students who are unwell are expected to remain at home until they are well. Regular handwashing and use of hand sanitiser will continue to be promoted and utilised. The Department of Education has provided schools with additional funds to continue daytime cleaning for Term 3 which does include our playground equipment. A friendly reminder that these are not available for use after school at this stage. Reports were sent out via connect yesterday (Wednesday, 1 st July) and as previously mentioned all public school reports look slightly different this semester. At Eden Hill PS we have provided very detailed reports across a wide range of learning areas as no grades are provided. If the teacher has indicated on the report that a parent interview is required, please ensure you contact the class teacher to arrange a meeting for Term 3. Parent interviews will not be held on Wednesday, 5th August as in previous years. EHPS School Board met recently and agreed to extend the new school uniform transition until the end of 2021 rather than 2020, in the hope that this provides assistance to any families who need it. The board also approved an additional pupil free day as per DOE requirements for 2020 and COVID-19. The following dates are pupil free days for Semester 2: Wednesday 5 th August Monday 12 th October (additional date) Friday 18 th December On our return you will notice some No Smokingsigns on some school gates and we respectfully ask you to refrain from smoking at the gates. Thank you for your support. We finished our last term preparing for online teaching and learning and have enjoyed returning to face to face teaching during Term 2 and having direct contact with our students. Dear Eden Hill PS Families,

As I write this final newsletter for the semester I am reminded of just how much change, uncertainty and growth has occurred over the course of Term 1 and 2.

Reports were sent out via connect yesterday (Wednesday, 1st July) and as previously mentioned all public school reports look slightly different this semester.

The following dates are pupil free days for Semester 2: Wednesday 5th August Monday 12th October (additional date) Friday 18th December

On our return you will notice some ‘No Smoking’ signs on some school gates and we respectfully ask you to refrain from smoking at the gates. Thank you for your support.

We finished our last term preparing for online teaching and learning and have enjoyed returning to face to face teaching during Term 2 and having direct contact with our students. We look forward to welcoming you back on site next term and, from all the Eden Hill Primary School staff, we wish you a very safe and enjoyable holiday break. We look forward to seeing our students and community back, feeling refreshed and ready to go, on Monday 20th July. Keep safe and well.

Chaplains Chatter On Saturday eve John and I wanted to watch a movie but nothing heavy or deep, just something entertaining and, I suppose, uplifting! We settled on watching the 2019 romantic comedy ‘Last Christmas’, featuring the music of George Michael, and staring Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding. We found it very entertaining and although not a profound movie, the main character learnt some tough lessons on the way through. Toward the end she made a statement which I thought was quite relevant to our current world situation…

“We are so lucky to be alive. We are so lucky to be able to help each other in little ways and big ways. The reason we are lucky is because helping each other is, in fact, what makes us happy.” Kate, the Elf, from Last Christmas.

The idea that when we help others our own happiness increases is backed up by psychological research. Endorphins (our very own feel good chemical) are released in our bodies when we do something for someone else. This is sometimes referred to as a Helper High. Help can come in every size and shape, big or small. The size, or the amount, of help is not so much the point as is the gesture of genuinely wanting to help. The emphasis being on the ‘genuine’ part. If you are thinking about some meaningful way to be of service, offer to help, then do it from the heart. Helper’s High is what you will receive when you give from the heart a gracious act of kindness. Jen Palandri YouthCARE Chaplain

Deputy’s Luncheon Our Deputy’s Luncheon was held on Tuesday for some of our outstanding students. Congratulations to the following students for being chosen by their class teacher/s to attend: Mariano Molaro, Georgia Horton, Max Heelan, Jasman Dang, Ivy Braae, Maya Jeffery, Jack Munro, Mani Shanks, Elena Pryor, William Le, Savannah Abraham, Molly Shaw, Ibrahim Alfaris, Aleisha Bakes, Seth Bowen & Dhani Jha.

Constable Care Constable Care will be visiting our school on Monday, 27th July. More information and permission slips will be sent home early next term. Thank you to Miss Hunnisett for coordinating this incursion.

School Band Our School Band for 2020 has been named ‘Derailed’ and they are looking to be sponsored by a local business or family to help them purchase band t-shirts. The sponsors business name will be advertised on the t-shirts and in our newsletter. Please see Mrs Miell in the Music Room or contact the school if you would like to help.

School Choir Our School Choir will re-commence rehearsals the first week back in Term 3, on Tuesday, 21st July at 8:00am. Please ensure students are on time. Students arriving later than 8:10am will not be allowed in as this disrupts the rehearsal. Thank you for your cooperation with this.

Cross Country 2020 Our Faction Cross Country was held last Thursday, 25th June. All students from Years 3 to 6 participated in this event. The sun shone bright, spirits were high and energy levels did not falter. Everyone that ran persisted and gave the course their best attempt. The distance was slightly further than last years and for the first time, students were timed. This has proven to be an exciting addition as many have shown interest in their results and are already talking about how they may improve next time. This also means we have a school record for each year group and any students eager enough, can train towards beating them and creating new ones!

Thanks must go to every staff member that assisted with the smooth running of the event. Without their support it is difficult to provide these opportunities for our students. Also thank you to our amazing supporters. In the absence of parents, classes came out in force and cheered on their peers. The atmosphere was heartening. Look forward to next years event!
