February 2018 the NEWSCOMER CITRUS NEWCOMERS CLUB Citrus County, Florida I know you are probably saying that you moved down here to get away from the cold. I am not going to argue. It has been cold but the redeeming factor is no snow shovel is needed. Hopefully, we only have another month of our so-called winter. You have to admit that the Florida sun shines almost every day. It starts out cold in the morning and by midday, it actually warms up enough to toss that coat you were wearing. You can’t say that about Chicago, New York, New Jersey, Ohio or any of the other northern cities you left. Speaking of warming up. Valentine’s - Do you remember when you were a child you wrote and distributed a card to everyone in your class? I remember writing my name over and over on each card. I particularly remember those heart shaped candies with sappy sayings like I LOVE YOU, YOU ARE MY VALENTINE, BE MINE. They might have been a little corny but somehow those cards and candies warmed my heart. February 14th is fast approaching. Valentine’s Day is not only for lovers but for everyone that you love. That includes your spouse/partner, parents, grandparents, siblings, children, grandchildren, friends and all those special people in your life. The Hallmark Company pays their bills with this holiday, so do your part and buy a card. If you don’t have any stamps, then make that call to the special people in your life and tell them you love them. Happy Valentine’s Day! See you at the next luncheon. Citrus County, Florida

I know you are probably saying that you moved down here to get away from the cold.

If you visit this attraction on your own, listed as one of Tampa Bay’s Top 10 attractions, it will cost you almost double. This ranch is a hands-on 100 acre working farm maintained to preserve species who are endangered or extinct in the wild, run by the former director of the Lowery Park Zoo who felt there was a better way to provide a home for the animals. There is no walking involved in the tour. We will be riding on an open-sided safari truck and will each have the opportunity to feed the giraffes, although they are not the only African grazing animal you will see. If you want to pay extra, you can feel and wash a rhino. After the tour, head in to Dade City, one of Florida’s Top 10 Small Towns where you will find a variety of quaint antique and specialty shops and great little restaurants. Sherry Wilson is organizing this tour and can be reached at [email protected] or 270-3339.

March 13: Due to a lack of interest, we are cancelling the Dance to the Movies event at the Ruth Eckerd. March 13: Join Ruth Merk for Lunch Bunch at Las Margaritas, 4414 SW College Rd. in Ocala at 12:30 pm. This is a very popular new restaurant and we have had several requests to visit there. As usual, a $10 check insures your reservation, returnable on your attendance. For reservations, contact Ruth Merk at 341-1731 or [email protected].

March 14: Asian Fusion in Lecanto is this month’s choice for the Dinner Bunch. This

restaurant is located on Rte. 486, in the small mall across from Paige’s Root Beer. If you

would like to join our friendly group for a great social event, singles or couples, a check for $10
