Fuel duty cancelled for Bournemouth and

Poole as new car registrations soarThe cancellation of Labours fuel duty rise was put into law last week, following George Osbornes announcement in the Autumn Statementthat the Government would cancel the rise that was planned forJanuary 2013. This keeps fuel 10p cheaper than it would have beenunder Labour and saves the typical motorist 40.

New car registrations released the day after the Autumn Statementshowed that there are 11 per cent more motorists who will benefit fromthis cancellation compared to November last year.

Conor commented: People who live and work in Bournemouth andPoole will be thrilled that the Chancellor has cancelled Labours rise infuel duty. There are 3.5 million motorists in the South West who will benefit and the cancellation is well timed, with more and more people buyingcars in the UK.Coupled with the income tax cut, this is a fantastic boost for

households working hard to make ends meet.

She will also be aware that Giles Verdon and his team at thatfactory were working to put together a community interest company.May I tell her that in all their dealings with Remploy centrally phonecalls went unanswered, information requested was not forthcomingand deadlines were too short? They did not stand a chance. Will sheagree to meet me and representatives of Remploy in Poole so thatthey can tell her about their experience in dealing with Remploycentrally?

Esther McVey (Wirral West, Conservative): I will indeed meet myhon. Friend, just as I have met so many hon. Members to discuss thebest way forward and to learn from what has happened so far.

    Conor questions PM on Leveson

    Thursday 29th November 2012

Click the above image to watch Conors question to thePrime Minister on Leveson.

The full text of the exchange was as follows:Conor Burns (Bournemouth West, Conservative): One of LordLevesons recommendations is that we should legislate to introduce alegal duty on the government to protect the freedom of the press.Does my right hon. Friend agree that such a Bill would be utterly aliento our traditions in this country? Will he join me in encouraging LordsHunt and Black to look at the Leveson recommendations, to see ifthere are things within them that they could add to theirrecommendations, and to get on with the job so that we can restorerobust confidence in a free press that is the cornerstone of a freesociety?

David Cameron (Prime Minister; Witney, Conservative): Frankly, Ithink we have to be tougher on Hunt and Black than that. We need tosay very clearly that what has been proposed so far is progress on thePress Complaints Commission, but that it is not good enough. Weneed more changes; the public want more changes; the victims wantmore changes. It is not yet the sort of independent regulation that wecan say is right or of which we can be proud. Leveson points out theweaknesses in the system, and we need to plug those gaps. Thepress need to plug those gaps, and as I say, there is nothing to stopthem getting on with that straight away.
