cornbread etc. Don’t forget the desserts and your favorite game.
Budget Requests
We are preparing the budget for 2016. Today is the last day to submit budget requests to the church office.
Childcare
We are in need of two childcare volunteers for Celebrate Recovery. If you are interested, please contact Judy Odom, 903-327-8450.
Bounties of Thanksgiving Our food drive is officially underway. We are asking everyone to “grab food tabs” so we can replenish Harry’s Pantry. We have served many people this past year and our pantry is running low. We will be accepting donations through November 22. Right now our current needs are Canned Fruit, 10 oz Canned Soup, Large Mayon-naise and Jelly.
Familes In Need We are in need of a full/double bed with sheets, a dresser, 4 dining room chairs, small breakfast table. If you can help please contact Anne Kirkpatrick, 214-316-8812. Needed for a young mom—any and all items including baby bed and carrier for newborn son, due in December. If you can help, please contact Jane Bolerjack, 903-416-9202.
Small Group Tonight Tonight we are having our normal small group meeting time and order of events but with a few guests. I met with some of the SAMPACC coordinators several weeks ago and we talked about getting together with our young people. Both middle school and high school groups will meet in the Ark from 6-8 pm and will be fed. We will eat and play some games. I think it will be a fun time for our students to get to have interac-tion with some of our older mem-
bers. Look forward to seeing you all tonight at our event.
Gone to Camp Tomorrow morning, Sarah and I will be going with our Denison intermediate school to camp Goddard in Oklahoma. I am looking forward to spending some time with these students, many of whom I know by name but not by face. It will be a slightly different adventure for me to be at camp with some younger kids but I know camp for these 5th graders is one of the best
parts of their year. I ask for prayers for all of us participating in camp Goddard this Fall. Note: Word Up and Wednesday night youth class will not be affected. A teacher will be present for class.
Fall Retreat Reminder We are retreating to Mt. Lebanon in just over a month! Hopefully you have marked your calendars for December 4th through 6th. I am asking students to pay $50 for the weekend. Sign-ups are in the youth commons.

Thank you for your support of the Park Avenue Church of
Christ.
Good day, Church! So glad you’re here with us
today. I pray your weekend has been richly blessed
thus far, and I pray that this morning’s worship
service is a highlight of your weekend. Speaking of
this weekend, last night was our Fall Festival. I’ll
use next Sunday’s article to do my best to
adequately thank all those wonderful people who
made it possible. But, as I write this and prepare for
- what I expect to be - a remarkable evening, I am so
thankful for the volunteer spirit of this congregation.
It is incredible.
Tonight, we continue our Bringing Up Boys study in
the Atrium from 6-7:30. Thanks to the Family
Deacons (Steve Taylor, Justin Banks, and Bryan
Karguth) for their work with this study and to Barry
and Jennifer Chapman, Naomi, and Debbie Hawk
who are helping by providing childcare for the
parents of these wonderful boys!
Lastly, our Casa team is meeting next Sunday
afternoon, Nov. 8th, from 4-5:30. I want to ask all
participants to be on hand as we make preparations
for our trip later this month. If you have questions
please call or email me. Thanks! I am so excited
about what God will do through this trip!
This morning immediately following
worship we have a Let’s Get Acquainted meal
for our new members and guests. Please
accept our invitation (and free meal!) and stay
and eat with our staff and elders and their
wives. This is an excellent opportunity for you
to get to know us and for us to get to know you.
In a congregation this size it is difficult to get to
know everyone but we certainly want you to
know that you are important to us.
A big welcome to Joe and Melanie
Fuller and their children Colton and Paisley.
The Fuller family is new to Denison and are
excited about placing their membership with us
and getting involved with our church family.
Joe is the chief of police in Leonard and
Melanie is a teacher at Bells High School. Joe
is also the great nephew of Lou Rasco and
she is elated to have the Fuller family here.
We will have our Community
Thanksgiving Service on Nov 22, 6 p.m. at
Trinity Lighthouse. Mark your calendars.

who participated in this minis-
try. Thank you also to the Flight

Don't you just love this season? I'm not talking about fall; I'm talking about election season.
Polls, debates, policies - they all just add up for a fascinating combination of mudslinging, political mumbo-jumbo, and image control. I wouldn’t call myself a real political person, but I must admit there is something about this cycle we go through every four years that intrigues me. It's also interesting to ob-serve how Christians perceive this process in different and opposing ways. Some Christians stay completely out of it. The kingdom of God and the kingdoms of this world are two separate entities. Neither Paul nor Jesus ever encouraged political action, accept to submit to the au-thorities, so why should we be the least bit concerned about laws and offices. Let the people of the world take care of those insignificant details while I dedicate my full attention and allegiance to the eternal kingdom. Real change and transformation has never been an act of government, it is solely an act
Todd’s Take
We are honored to have you with us this morning. A warm welcome to all our members — how good and pleasant it is for us to worship together! And a special welcome to our guests! Please take a few

Sermon Notes
Timeless Lessons from Habakkuk’s Conversation with God
1. An encounter with God can turn _________ into devotion and
turn ____________ into confidence.
2. God’s __________is not necessarily my _________.
3. God is still _________ __________ despite the apparent triumph of evil.
4. Inner peace does not depend on outward ______________ or _____________.
5. Claiming God’s ____________ over my life can help me overcome anything.
of God. It's not that they don’t want a better and more spiritual world, they just don’t think the governments of this sphere are truly capable of bring-ing that to pass. Some Christians get right in the middle of it. One way we can be the salt and light of the world is to enact change through the political process. We have not been called to retreat from this world, but rather to engage it. Sure, we are all citizens of the
eternal kingdom, but we are also, albeit tempo-rarily, citizens of our respective locales and our voices need to be heard. It's not that they think government is THE answer but it is AN instrument of God to bring about righteous-ness and holiness.
I tend to believe this qualifies as one of the disputable matters Paul talks about. In recognition of that, allow me to remind you that there is not only an important election next November, there is one this November. There are several state and local proposi-tions that will be decided this Tues-day and, if you are so inclined, you get to have a voice. In any case, enjoy the season be it fall or election season - or both!
