“We’re very pleased with the awards because the overall quality of the shows was recognized,’’ Duprey said afterward.! Elenbes are given out each spring at NHS to students and directors involved in musical and dramatic productions in 10 Wayne County schools.!

! !! Newark has won a great many of them.! Last year (2010-2011), Newark won four Elenbes; in (2009-10) Newark won five Elenbes; it won three Elenbes in 2008-09; it won six in 2007-08; 11 in 2006-07; and five in 2005-06. Duprey directed all of the productions. Judges in the contest, sponsored by the Lyons National

Bank, are members of the Wayne County Council For the Arts who attend every performance. Prior to the awards presentation May 29, three-to-four minute vignettes from the various school musical and dramatic productions, were performed in the auditorium. Again this year, as he has done for 15 out of 16 years that the Elenbes have been presented, Don Alhart,13-WHAM TV anchor was the Wayne County Performing Arts Celebration Master of Ceremonies. !!
