Mechanically fastened, thermoplastic (i.e. TPO or PVC) single-ply systems are among the most popular commercial roofing systems in the U.S. From the corrugated steel deck up, the roof assembly typically includes insulation, secured in place with insulation fasteners and plates or oversized washers. Sometimes a cover board (e.g. gypsum) is secured over the insulation using screws and plates, or an adhesive. The membrane or roof cover is secured over the top using a different set of screws and plates, installed along the edge of the membrane. The next section of membrane overlaps the installed fasteners and plates, encapsulating them. The seam is made by fusing the thermoplastic materials together with a hot-air welder to create a seam that can be made as strong as the membrane itself.

ANATOMY OF A COMMERCIAL ROOF

WHY THIS MATTERSIt’s important to understand the anatomy of a commercial roof because OMG PowerGrip™ products are designed specifically for use on commercial roofs. In fact, PowerGrip Standard and PowerGrip Plus anchors are made using the same brand and type of thermoplastic material that’s installed on the roof. The anchors are bonded to the roof cover using the same hot-air welding technique used to create watertight seams on the roof. Furthermore, all PowerGrip anchors, including the PowerGrip Universal 7 and 11, are secured directly to the structural roof deck using the same or similar fasteners that hold the roofing system in place. We know, because it’s very likely that we made those original roof fasteners, too!

OPTIONS FOR EVERY COMMERCIAL ROOFING SYSTEM! OMG offers a full line of PowerGrip roof anchors for virtually every type of commercial roof. PowerGrip products are designed to secure solar arrays and other equipment without having to cut open or ‘core’ the roof.

PowerGrip products provide a secure, water-tight connection directly to the roof deck or structural members, thereby taking the wind-load off the membrane or roof cover, and plac-ing it onto the structural deck where it belongs. Once secured in place, properly installed PowerGrip products can help eliminate rack movement and remain watertight.

FOUR CONFIGURATIONS• PowerGrip Standard is designed for use with ballasted solar systems on thermoplastic (TPO

or PVC) membrane roofs. It should not be used as the sole anchor type on non-ballasted systems. The product is made with the same type of membrane that’s on the existing roof.

• PowerGrip Plus is a heavy duty version of the PowerGrip Standard. It’s designed to be used in both ballasted and non-ballasted systems.

• PowerGrip Universal 7 can be used on any type of commercial roof. PGU-7s have superb strength to resist tensile (uplift), shear and compressive forces. In addition, it’s designed with a redundant water blocking system for long term performance.

• PowerGrip Universal 11 has all the qualities of the Universal 7, with even more strength for maximum performance with any type of commercial solar rack system or heavy equipment.
